it cannot find my location…

2022-06-24

I have selected for SnakeBite911 to be able to access my precise location any time I open SnakeBite911 . I wanted to see which hospitals in Austin, TX carry crofab. I clicked the find a hospital, the map selected Austin TX then SnakeBite911 errored and said my location could not be found and defaulted to somewhere in Northern Kansas. I tried contacting support, but their page has been disabled. very disappointed.

Used to be a great app

There is no longer a quick way to see which of the local trauma centers has crofab in stock. As the stocking levels are irregular, it was a tremendously valuable feature, as there is no point in turning up at one of two equidistant trauma centers, if it only has a single dose in stock, and the other has 14.

I can teach myself species ID on Wikipedia. For me, the value was entirely in the stocking levels.

No location

Useless if it cannot find my location and provide a list of hospitals. I tried deleting and reinstalling, still defaulting to Kansas both times and I cannot override it by moving the map.

Needs fixing!

I cannot get past the initial page to agree to the terms without SnakeBite911 crashing. Very disappointed since it was recommended by the crofab reps at my facility.

Location waaaaay off

I just tried to explore SnakeBite911, so I’d know my options if I’m ever in a crisis.
I’m in austin Texas and the ‘hospitals’ button only gave me places in Kansas.

Please address this because it seems to me that is one of the more important features.

Something very wrong

2022-11-29

When I click on hospitals it only shows Kansas when I am in Florida. Limits value.

Where is the Crofab locator?

2022-12-30

The earlier version of SnakeBite911 allowed users to locate hospitals carrying Crofab by typing in a zip code. It appears that this important feature is no longer available. It’s important to be able to quickly determine which hospitals carry Crofab. I’d hate to end up at a hospital that doesn’t carry it; as SnakeBite911 notes, “time is tissue”.

An ER Must-Have!

This is a pretty functional app. It shows mixing instructions, interventions and algorithms in regards to snakebite management and antivenin administration.

It beats finding an unused computer, logging in and printing off info at the Crofab website. Now I can reference the info from my phone at the bedside if needed.

Features

Coagulopathy: In clinical trials, recurrent coagulopathy (the return of a coagulation abnormality after it has been successfully treated with antivenin), characterized by decreased fibrinogen, decreased platelets, and elevated prothrombin time, occurred in approximately half of the patients studied; one patient required re-hospitalization and additional antivenin administration.

Do not administer CroFab® to patients with a known hypersensitivity to any of its components, or to papaya or papain unless the benefits outweigh the risks and appropriate management for anaphylactic reactions is readily available.

Two patients had a severe allergic reaction (severe hives and a severe rash and pruritus) following treatment and one patient discontinued CroFab® due to an allergic reaction.

The new SnakeBite911 app comes from the manufacturers of CroFab® CrotalidaePolyvalent Immune Fab (Ovine), a sheep-derived antivenin indicated for the management of adult and pediatric patients with North American crotalid envenomation.

Follow-up all patients for signs and symptoms of delayed allergic reactions or serum sickness (e.g., rash, fever, myalgia, arthralgia).

Patients allergic to papain, chymopapain, other papaya extracts, or the pineapple enzyme bromelain may also have an allergic reaction to CroFab®.

Adverse reactions involving the skin and appendages (primarily rash, urticaria, and pruritus) were reported in 12 of the 42 patients.

The most common adverse reactions (incidence ≥ 5% of subjects) reported in the clinical studies were urticaria, rash, nausea, pruritus and back pain.

In case of acute hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis and anaphylactoid reactions, discontinue infusion and institute appropriate emergency treatment.

Hypersensitivity Reactions: Severe hypersensitivity reactions may occur with CroFab®.

Patients who experience coagulopathy due to snakebite should be monitored for recurrent coagulopathy for up to 1 week or longer.

Recurrent coagulopathy due to envenomation and requiring additional treatment may occur.

The term crotalid is used to describe the Crotalinae subfamily (formerly known as Crotalidae) of venomous snakes which includes rattlesnakes, copperheads and cottonmouths/water moccasins.

During this period, the physician should carefully assess the need for re-treatment with CroFab® and use of any type of anticoagulant or anti-platelet drug.
