Useless without subscription

I’m happy to pay once for an app, but ongoing pay-to-play is a no-go. What this does for free can be done in notepad with as much effort.

Difficult to Navigate

I really wanted to like Kcalc. It’s display seemed like it was it was going to be very simple to navigate and similar to the Apple Health app. However, I cannot work Kcalc. I feel like I am fairly tech savvy and don’t typically have any problems figuring out how to work apps. This one is so difficult to work and there’s really not any support for it. I tried to click on what seemed to be a technical support link and it doesn’t work. I find that even though I selected to use the US Standard system, it continues to revert to metric units. I downloaded this free app to see if it would fit my needs, but as soon as I finished setting up my account it tried to get me to sign up for a subscription. I attempted to get out of it just so I could see what Kcalc looked like, but it wouldn’t let me look at anything without selecting a subscription type. I quit Kcalc several times and attempted to relaunch it, but each time it required me to choose one. Somehow, even though I thought I was extremely careful, I signed up for a yearly subscription. I immediately requested a refund from Apple and was denied TWICE. I had already deleted Kcalc and was not even using it or the subscription, but that apparently means nothing. So, I lost $40 for nothing. I didn’t even mean to sign up! I definitely think this could be an extremely useful app, but right now I can’t get past the frustration of it.

Hard to Use, No Polish

This is probably the most disappointing app experience I’ve had. I’m convinced that Kcalc hasn’t been tested in Apple’s Xcode emulators, because elements that are modified in UI don’t return to their original locations after being toggled/touched. I have a very common iPhone 13.

Finding food to add to my day is an impossible process. I attempted to simply find a black coffee. After searching for “coffee”, “black coffee”, and “light roast” I gave up adding the 5 calorie item. There are many things like this that really make Kcalc unusable. The UI things are one thing, but the health functions are a big hurdle to use.

I honestly can’t fathom how anyone has rated Kcalc higher than I have.

Deleted

Was really hopeful for Kcalc as I enjoyed the layout. I’ve used many food tracking apps, and this one was by far the least user friendly unfortunately. Trying to add food was a nightmare. The barcode scanner didn’t work. No way to fix/change anything if you mess up and put the wrong numbers in. Really disappointing. Especially considering I opted for the one year subscription as it was the best deal. Ended up deleting Kcalc anyway and won’t be renewing the subscription.

Alright

I like the way Kcalc looks and it’s super user friendly, however, when I go to create a new food, it doesn’t take into account that I’m adding a liquid. The measurement options it gives you a very limited. Would like to see a widget. I’m not sure it’s worth buying as this tool is supposed to be quick and easy. Maybe I’m missing something?

User friendly

Thank you im breastfeeding and holding onto extra weifgt and i am excited to try to get rid of it

Doesn’t actually work

Kcalc is not usable in USCS. Adding food to a meal does not automatically update the macro tracker. Scanning a barcode for an item not in the system is not an easy process. Although Kcalc dashboard looks good and could potentially track everything I’m looking for, the difficulties trying to set up and actually use Kcalc make me instantly regret paying for this.

Terrible

Once you buy the subscription it immediately has more bugs and problems than I could count. Try to look up a banana for todays macros and it wouldn’t even show up. You have to manually look up banana macros and save it in Kcalc . That goes for anything every time you eat a new food. Everything is buggy and keeps switching to imperial measurements. Could literally do what Kcalc does for free on a notepad.

Terrible

Wish I had read the reviews before I paid anything… Tracking is incredibly difficult. There are very few foods already build into the database. The manual meals I created would not log properly. Kcalc booted me out and closed every 30 seconds or so. Should have known it was a red flag when there isn’t even a trial period to test it out…

By

Not user friendly

Kcalc is not user friendly. It will not save your preferences and it picks and chooses the metrics it uses. It is not easy to find the food to log. The water tracker is confusing and horrible. Unlike other apps, you don’t get a free trial with Kcalc so I’m out my money even though I canceled with an hour of downloading. Very frustrating.

By

Unusable

Very difficult to use, almost impossible. Tried to input some food and it doubled the calories but kept the macros the same, made it impossible to accurately track. Makes you pay before you try, so you can’t see how horrible it is before giving them your money. Not worth it.

By

Couldn't test it

They want you to pay before you can try it out. How do I know if I'm going to want to buy it?

By

1000 Questions

If you’re like me you don’t want to fill out a 1,000 question survey. You just want to start using Kcalc for its intended purpose: tracking calories. Kcalc didn’t give me the option to skip the questions, so after 20 or so I gave up and deleted it. There are better options.

Meals don’t track

I have tried for over an hour to track my breakfast and lunch for the day without success. I’m very disappointed because otherwise I like the simple layout of Kcalc . Unfortunately, the reason that I downloaded Kcalc was to track my meals save your money.

By

Terrible

This gives you the option for imperial
Measurements, but when asking for height and weight it will only let you choose metric. The real kicker was that when I indicated I was using it for weight loss it have my goal weight of a hundred plus more than I weigh now. Ya, nope. DELETE!

By

Awful

It looks very cool. However, the food tracking isn’t user friendly at all and I have noticed it was highly inaccurate. Macros in foods were incorrect, which defeats the purpose of a tracker. No free trial, and a huge waste of money.

I only saw good reviews before I got this app

This does not save information after spending so much time navigating and “saving” food only for it to not save. Agh. So annoying! I wasted my money and time! Safe your money!

By

Forced subscription before trying

I entered lots of info and wasted time because I was forced to choose a subscription before even seeing how Kcalc works.

By

Does not work!

I cannot add food. Kcalc keeps shutting down. All this after paying $39 to use Kcalc . Would NOT recommend unless they FIX the issues!

By

No

Not user friendly, cannot delete food that was miss calculated, won’t save current weight. Waste of $40

By

Great!

It's kind of new and cool. Convenient visual system! Everything important on one screen. It is convenient to operate with one hand, unusual. I want widgets to display on the desktop. While there are shortcomings, every day I check for updates)

By

Not free

Makes you answer a lot of questions then makes you pay before showing any kind of way it’ll help you

By

Misleading

Jump through a bunch of hoops to sign up, only to be presented with options for a subscription in the end. Annoying waste of time.

Love concept, hate locating specific meals

I love Kcalc, but I just hate that the food I eat is not listed. Or hard to find, or even worse, I can’t add it. They should allow users to add and title their meals not off of a generated limited search.
