Great for Cities

What makes this app unique is the way it represents the information to the user, and quite possibly could be to the future of GPS interfaces. The interface on Wikitude allows for figuring out directions and orientations when in a big city far easier than that of a traditional GPS, which can oftentimes be slightly misleading. Simply holding up your device like a camera and looking at the screen, this app can place the locations, events, etc. of your query in their respective places on the screen. If you're unimpressed with what's over there, simply spin a little to the side and keep looking! Of course it will work in smaller towns, as it seems to get a lot of its information Google places, but the more information to work with the better.

There are a few usability issues, especially within the user interface for browsing the options of a search (but recently they have been making drastic updates to this). Also, the search function should be updated to allow for more refined queries and allow selection of the databases you wish to pull information from.

Wikitude has a lot of potential and is, in my opinion, a fantastic tool to have on a bustling city street.

Meh

Just not very exciting. Apps like World Surfer are, for me at least, much better for exploring and searching in a city. Holding the phone up like a camera all the time to search is not a great UI experience. Peole are alwyas thinking that I'm taking a photo and dodging out of the way. The POIs in space is getting a bit old. Can't wait until AR has real graphic experiences - like watching the Golden Gate bridge get built in 2 minutes!

Interesting idea; unfortunately it is buggy, has poor interface.

I like the concept behind augmented reality, and I want Wikitude to work, but it suffers from a poor interface. It crashes (both 2.1 and 2.2) when you try to remove an item from the list, such as Starbucks. (One thing I don't need is an app to find Starbucks.) Also, the camera button doesn't work most of the time, leaving you stuck in map mode. (The camera button is the only way to counterintuitively access the menu.) I hope the developer can clean up the bugs and improve the navigation issues. Nice idea, execution lacking.

Not terribly useful

Too much information; little of any interest. No matter how far to the left I set the distance slider, Wikitude was still coming up with hits that were 8 to 10 miles away from wherever I happened to use it. Most of the hits it produces are of little or no interest, obscure, etc. In busy downtown Washington, DC, there were many hits crowded so closely together on the screen that they overlapped one another and were impossible to distinguish. The List View was, however, of some help in sorting them out. All in all, a bit of a time waster. Apps like Where and AroundMe were much better and produced better-focused resuts.

Amazing

The thought of an augmented reality has fascinated me for a while now when I watched "Eden of the east" I was amazed by their app although it was just an anime I dreamt of one day having such technology and although this has a while to go before it can recognize who a person is with just a quick picture it does show a promising future for such a thing. I love Wikitude maybe I'm just a nerd but its awesome xD

Great app for finding historical stuff

I recently used this app at an old town in the mountains of North Carolina and Wikitude did a great job in showing me the locations of some great sites. I couldn't recommend Wikitude enough , especially if you are in another country where it may be hard to find good historical areas using just a local map.

Unimpressed

I thought Wikitude might be a little fun. I loaded it up and it found poi's... Just not any that involved my town or the largest with in 25 miles. I live outside a 70k person town which houses a university, Houdini museum, a performing arts ctr and the largest mall in the state, yet it finds nothing.. But it finds poi's for towns of 2k people or less. Pathetic. Also standing outside I never got a solid green gps signal and the locations of the towns was inaccurate. Pretty disappointing app. Needs a lot of polishing to get even one more star

Does not work in iOS 4?

In the default "worlds" list view, clicking on anything causes app to crash. In the local list view, clicking on things does nothing - they are highlighted but no info is displayed. This might turn out to be a good app, but it is very difficult to learn to use, and does not seem to work in iOS 4.

Still crashes in i OS 4

Even with the update today, Wikitude still crashes in i OS 4. App loads fine, but when you uncheck options that you don't want to view (after it says "Loading POIs"), and press the view camera button, it asks to apply changes. You press YES, and it stalls on the "Loading POIs" screen, then Wikitude closes...

Very cool, a promising app

Wikitude is definitely very interesting. I live just outside of Washington D.C. And there are tons of POI's in the system for this area. Hopefully this grows and continues to fill in more information. It would be nice to see more things like restaurants and useful shops.

Works Pretty Well

The interface is just a little bit clunky, but it is much more than i would ask of a free app. great job! If it could also search all of Wikipedia, that would be even more amazing.

Great idea, poor execution

This would be an amazing app if it 1, weren't so glacially slow, and 2, advertisements were not the primary experience.

Nonetheless, I have used it a couple times to explore dining options in a new part if town. How this is better than Yelp, I don't know.

Get it and try it...it's worth that. Then delete it as its not really worth keeping.

Idea is good but needs work

Database is poor. It didn't show a bug hotel just few steps away in Los Angeles downtown. So you can't rely on Wikitude.
This kind of apps hampers the reliability of App Store.
I gave two star coz it's Free, there is a note on the listing about Maintainance and the idea.

What about A place to have dinner?

Wikitude does work. From inside my apartment it located all the hotels and SOME of the POI's. But didn't point out any of the places to eat. Historic land marks or musems. Come to think of it missed alot. Wikitude runs realy well. It just needs time to build. It's free why not.

Lots of available information in a single app

This works pretty good. It's cool to see things around you while you're on vacation or traveling.

Handy app

Wikitude is pretty good. Type in what you are looking for and all kinds of things pop up around you. Navigating Wikitude is a little quirky. Wikitude quits when hitting the back button to go back to the first page. Wish they would fix that.

Not Ready for iPhone 4

I tried this out on the iPhone 4 and it crashes just about all the time. It says its supposed to be supported but NOT. I really had high hopes for this, but it failed miserably, could not search for anything. I'll try it again and hope its updated. Location tested, Honolulu Hawaii. I've removed it from my apps.

Love it

It was working good until a few days ago, now it won't connect not even with wifi

Unreal

This techology is just beginning, but it's the future of location based services. Cool to get and check out.

Having an issue with the search feature

I am a student with PivotPoint. My classmates have Wikitude and seem to have no trouble searching for that, but when I search anything, it does nothing. I have checked the permissions and all of it seems fine. My iOS version is 9.3.2. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Works ok

I'm in dc and it doesn't work. Keeps saying it can't find a GPS signal when using the augmented reality but works just fine when using the map. Kind of pointless feature to add if it won't work.
