French best dictionary Reviews

I use Frenchbestdictionary (and the Spanish equivalent) quite frequently and love them both. They offer great translations as well as audio pronunciations. I want to suggest three features that would make these apps 5-star worthy:

1- Support for the new iPhone X and iPad Pro display sizes in order to truly take advantage of each

2- The ability to either search both sides (English to X and X to English) at the same time, or the ability to switch between the two searches without having to re-type the search query term to speed up searching as sometimes one may forget to check which dictionary is selected, and if it's the wrong one, switching erases the term requiring it to be typed in again to search the other dictionary

3- iPad multitasking support. The ability to simply slide-over into these apps or to have it sitting side-by-side with a document or book would be a wonderful, time-saving convenience

It’s pretty good, but like the other versions in Spanish, Portuguese and Italian, it doesn’t list the genders of nouns, which is a pretty significant omission.

It includes common expressions with every word and gives examples for each usage of a word. Easily the best French app I’ve used to date.

One of the best dictionaries I’ve had. The editor has published many other language dictionaries and I’ve downloaded several. I always look for his name.

Great app for translation but the audio does not work anymore

The application is good. Most advertising popp ups have been alarming ( volume blasts loud), annoying, of no interest, generally of stupid, shallow, uninterest. I detest these adverts!

Useful definitions

I did a month of language studies in France and Frenchbestdictionary was indispensable. I didn't run into anything searched for that I couldn't find in this dictionary. In fact, the cross references often lead me to find something new.

I think my only complaint is that the design and interface are sometimes inconvenient. For example, when the keyboard is up, you can not access the button to toggle between languages which often necessitates a few extra taps to get to your next search. Slight annoyance, but, all in all, I would definitely recommend Frenchbestdictionary.

Great app

It is hard to find an audio dictionary such as this, truly handy and part of the tools I added to my collectiom to help me learn French. Just like a regular pocket dictionary with pronunciation help but this is great because it is audio, instead of read pronunciation. Also give idioms and bits and pieces of words (like suffixes) that would change the meanings, I havent found that anywhere else. It can be switched between English and French which is handy for people learning English from French. The audio portions sound native instead of electronic voices which makes it a better tool. Great job guys. Also this is a dictionary, if you want help on grammer there are other great apps and tools for that. Thanks,

Love it! Just love it! Lets me switch from both languages and I can hear every word which is essential when you're learning on your own. Only thing is I would like an option to download the sound files directly onto the iPad since I don't have much access to the Internet. Maybe write how it's pronounced in each definition since I know that would take up a lot of room. There are some words I haven't been able to find though like peux and m'assoie, but every thing else seems simply amazing! ABSOLUTELY LOVE Frenchbestdictionary!

I work as a translator in the quality assurance department of a medical device company selling product to France. I use Frenchbestdictionary to double check the wording of my translations. For this reason I appreciate that the dictionary gives several possibilities for a given word. I also appreciate that the dictionary can be downloaded for offline use.

Sometimes I find that it is missing medical terminology, but this is understandable.

I would like to suggest an improvement in the search box where it can check for miss spelled words rather than simply pulling up the words starting with the first few letters of what is being typed.

All in all it is a very helpful app that I use daily.

Frenchbestdictionary is so-so for basic look-up. I have one real problem: verb forms. No verbs are listed, and there is no conjugation guide: for instance, if I see the words "nous sommes" and look up "sommes" I get only the word "etre." Because I've studied French before, I assume that "sommes" is the first-person plural of "etre." But there are many verbs I would not recognize, and there is no conjugation that I can find. And if there is a conjugation function, shouldn't it be easier to find? But Frenchbestdictionary does provide a number of idiomatic expresions; that's helpful. And it is a pretty good basic dictionary, with pronunciation guide.

Good range of words and their usages in sentences. Better than most other apps I've tried for this purpose.

However, I'd like more exhaustive inclusion of the prepositions used with each verb, and reduced duplicate entries. Another bug: once you've tapped the search box, you need to enter something and search for it before being able to switch languages. That's annoying--that "change language" bar should always be accessible.

It's a very useful dictionary with pronunciation for most words!!!
The only thing I wish is less advertisement and easier searching process. As for right now, you cannot search for a word you see in the explanation by highlighting it. I wish someday it'll have the function of searching by highlighting words in Frenchbestdictionary !!!

If you are learning French, gender is very important. Add notation for masculine, feminine and gender neutral. Still a very useful app. Best feature is the search, which can help you find the meaning of a word or regular conjugated verb without knowing the unconjugated spelling. You usually see your word before you finish typing, then just pick it from the list.

Great dic. But if you enter a word to translate, and discover Frenchbestdictionary wants to translate the other way round, clicking the flag to swap language SHOULD just give you the translation you need. But it doesnt. Clicking the flag resets the input bar, so you have to type the word again. Any easy fix for the programmers please!
