Matthew Henry Bible Commentary Reviews

For many years the printed edition of the Matthew Henry Bible Commentary has been my principal Bible study tool. It has been decisive in my understanding of hundreds of passages, thanks to all the information it provides. Translation from original Hebrew or Greek is one of Bible translations most difficult tasks. The explanation of what it meant in the original language is of enormous help. Also, historic, social, political, background are very helpful.
With MatthewHenryBibleCommentary it is way much easier to use anywhere at any time. I don’t have to carry the voluminous book around and research is much faster.
It is a huge blessing.

I’m very thankful that someone went to the effort to make Matthew Henry’s commentary available as an iPhone app. His comments are theologically sound, comprehensive in their knowledge of Scripture, and invaluable for their application to the lives of believers.

Sometimes his comments need to be compared to later commentators, as they were written before the discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls,other manuscripts, and extra-biblical works that have provided scholars with a better understanding of the Hebrew and Greek used in the Scriptures. Even with that, there are few who equal him for his practical applications and his ability to convey profound statements in a brief and memorable sentence.

The reader should be aware that the punctuation in this version sometimes is missing or incorrect and you need to re-read it with the correct punctuation in your mind.

This is the best app for this commentary that i have found.
It is very easy to use. I can locate what I’m looking for quickly without difficulty.
I have the 6 volume paper books of this commentary and have used it very much over the last 10 years.
I tried another app but it was difficult to get to what I wanted to study, so i went back to my book version.
Then i saw MatthewHenryBibleCommentary and tried again. I have it on my ipad and enjoy using it very much.

I’m remembering GREAT TIMES reading the word with my cousin whom I miss so very much, THE PICTURE EVOKES MEMORIES of the time she was with me and tootles in our home baking cakes homemade brownies one evening for melody Matthew and ( tootles ) aka j . In Arlington, to. AND TIMES WE WOULD GATHER AND READ AND EAT GINGER SNAPS HAVE SOME TEA AND READ when all things fail The Bible HAVE IS PEACE AND STILL DOES. We miss you ! Why? Bcz we love you. We feel so all alone and the BIBLE HELP US FORGET ABOUT THE EVIL COMING.
This one has wonderful fonts I love changing up my reading materials to my taste and IT’S THE WORD OF GOD.

Matthew Henry's Commentary was given to me as a gift over ten years ago and it has transformed my bible reading understanding and comprehension. I used to use my concise version at least once a week for verses I wanted more insight with and or to help me be more prepared to enrich our conversation in small group study. Having MatthewHenryBibleCommentary gives me the full set in my pocket. I have really enjoyed the updates to MatthewHenryBibleCommentary as it is continually improved. Phenomenal app and I would recommend to everyone.

I am amazed how wonderful is this Bible app. It’s a wonderful thing to have God’s Word where you can have it in your phone or tablet where you can bring it with you any time and any where. Using it by personal reading and devotion or use to witness to reach out lost person in order for them to hear the gospel of salvation. I personally did not like the ease, or should I say lack of ease of navigation of MatthewHenryBibleCommentary. I can think of several ways to make this smoother and more pleasant for the user, one being to be able to just tap the book at the top and immediately be able to select a different book instead of having to select the menus bar, then the table of contents, then the book! Unnecessary steps. Anyway, the only reason I have this two stars is because it did at least have a commentary, which was the main thing I was looking for. But for me, not worth it. Please tell me how to return for refund.

As a teacher in an adult Bible class, I have used the Matthew Henry Commentary app MANY times to understand and explain a portion of scripture. It is very insightful!
The one down side I have with MatthewHenryBibleCommentary is that there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to go back to the other choices after submitting a search. I have to resubmit the search each time I want to explore all the possibilities. Not a big deal, but it could be made easier.

This is a great app! Many of my books are in storage until my house is built and I so miss having this commentary available to me!

The ads scroll across the bottom of the screen and don’t pop up or interfere with reading.

When you swipe to the next screen it looks as if the page is turning. Such a fun detail!

I enjoy this Matthew Henry commentary so much. I’ve read other versions that leave out punctuation and are very hard to follow. This one is easily navigable, understandable, and has important links to other scriptures embedded. And of course MH continues to astound me with his detailed knowledge and interweaving of Scripture, his understanding of human nature and God’s purpose, and his relevance even now, centuries after he lived.

I really appreciate this content having been made available and have sent multiple emails to app creator to compliment his app... BUT there actually is no way on iOS to turn off the scrolling/dancing banner ads for slots, etc. When you are studying the Bible, it would seem reasonable that you could turn off commercials for one short hour a day. Please fix this.

I have enjoyed MatthewHenryBibleCommentary immensely and I would have given it 5 stars , however, the scrolling adds are very distracting and to be frank, annoying... I have experienced being completely immersed in the commentary only to have a slot machine bar begin scrolling on the page... the button is deactivated that would allow me to turn the adds OFF... If not for this, MatthewHenryBibleCommentary is absolutely perfect!!!

I love it when an app includes more than just a Bible on it. Places to take notes and other features help with doing study in private or public without having to take cumbersome notebooks and other books out in public. It makes it so easy and enjoyable to engage in study and keeps you from having to struggle to keep up with where you put your information.

I initially noticed this was a bit different from our 1986-page hard-cover version, and at first suspected it was abbreviated. Happily found this online copy is the unedited, entire original! It also has internal proof text references accessible by just a tap of the finger. I’m absolutely thrilled with this effort. Kudos to those who created it!

There’s a problem with the robotic voice it skips in the beginning of chapters and repeats itself and then begins to function normally,A real person’s voice male or female would be a better option than a robot at least I’m able to speed up or slow down the speaking of the voice which is a good thing!

Very good app. Only issue is, with the latest update, our use voiceover and I cannot switch between different portions of the commentary. There is some kind of button that it says unselected that I cannot select. Are used to be able to switch from different portions of the commentary but I cannot access them now.

While I have the Matthew Henry commentary on several Bible apps across different platforms, I love to be able to just open this and read straight from his comments. Changing the size and shape of the fonts is easy and it is also easy to go from one section to the next. I also like the scripture polyps making it easy to see and then get back to the text.

In the present times we are living in, I believe that is so crucial that God’s children grow closer to him, and his provisions thru the resources he has given us. This ministry is for sure one of those resources to read and feed God’s word, and study material. I thank God for this welcome app. Praying God’s continued Favor for each of you involved in this needed and welcomed resource to keep us connected to the Blessed Trinity in Jesus Mighty Name.

Everything about MatthewHenryBibleCommentary is great, you can switch between Bible and Commentary instantly and you can customize the font, text size and line spacing as well. The notes section is pretty handy as well. The only thing MatthewHenryBibleCommentary needs to be perfect is a night mode or dark theme.

Excellent Bible App! I daresay it’s the best electronic Bible in cyber space. The various versions, the offline capabilities and the myriad of Reading Plans (addressing EVERY situation; from 3-365 days), are phenomenal! The augmentation of the “Verse of the day” - having various Pastors and Bible Teachers deposit spiritual nuggets into the soul and minds of the listeners - is exceptional! May God’s continuous blessings be always with YouVersion, it’s Visionaries, Directors, Management and staff!

I love the "Mind Of Christ". To read the Bible is to eat the bread of life. I have always been a serious student of Gods word learning it at church where the pastor teaches from the original languages. This bible gives me that same type of guidance from home or on the go. One can really gain an extra sharpening of the sword by relaxing and worshipping God through the study of his word from this very special bible.

This commentary is amazing. I am studying from it everyday and am learning a lot. The frustrating part is that MatthewHenryBibleCommentary is filled with typos everywhere. Punctuation is missing and words are misspelled or just plain wrong words. It is already a pretty advanced reading level compared to what you find normally today, but it is much harder to read when you have to figure out what is supposed to be there. That's my only complaint. Way too many typos.

I love reading my bible with a commentary. This is a great option as I can easily take it with me instead of my bible AND my large commentary.

Also, the option to switch back and forth between the Bible and the commentary is a great feature.

The only thing I would change is to have an option to switch between Bible versions.

It is truly a privilege to be able to obtain this complete commentary on a handheld device instead of having to buy a set of huge books. I love the great depth of insight Matthew Henry brings to us in his magnificent work. It deepens my understanding of the Bible which is written in a straight forward, yet poetic and charming way. Love it.

I enjoy reading Matthew Henry’s thoughts and am grateful to have his words in the palm of my hand anywhere anytime through MatthewHenryBibleCommentary. It’s not a waste of time to flip to the passages I want to read, but I do wish I didn’t have to go all the way back to the Table of Contents to start a new path each time I want to follow up on something once I’ve already started reading

Personal hermeneutical study, studying to teach a Bible study group, and ideal for pastors on the go who desire orthodox Jesus-centered observations for understanding the context and original meaning. The Bible never means what it never meant before. This has been helpful, I can go immediately to my iPad and pull up a verse or some place in the scriptures, and read what is says, to throw more light on a subject. It is so much easier then grabbing my books and looking something up. Thank you.

Easy to use app that actually works. I have used MH commentary for about 10 years in book form. When I found MatthewHenryBibleCommentary It was perfect. I would like to write notes in like I do my books but all else is great. I like The continued improvements!
