Great magazine, awful app

It appears that Saveur has been abandoned so not sure why it is for sale any longer. Yesterday on Thanksgiving I was searching for recipes and bought a monthly subscription. I then searched for “cranberry” and it came up with a short list of articles that was only a subset of what is in the this app database. I then clicked on an article and it prompted me to subscribe to unlock (which I had done already). I then clicked this button and Saveur would crash. This is a basic user scenario for any testing. Please fix Saveur if you are selling it. There is so much amazing content on this app.

They have my money, yet no mag

I have been a print subscriber for many years and enjoyed the addition of digital content. Despite a paid print subscription through the next 3 years, there have been no issues released since 2019, no communication, and no subscription adjustments. Stay away from Saveur until they get their act together

No new issues since 2020

Cannot access new issues or ones I already had. Took my renewal and I am unable to contact.

By

No new issues 2020

New new issues but happy to take my money. Sauver and Apple can do better.

Should be ashamed of themselves

You take our money and then not publish anything in 2020, what a shady dishonest and corrupt bunch of criminals.

Saveur, you should be ashamed

As a long time print subscriber, I probably have 100 issues lying around, I was so looking forward to my print subscription being available on my iPad. Of course, as you already know, I was sadly mistaken. So, what you are asking this long time subscriber to do is pay for digital access AND print access. I know the magazine is high quality and directed to affluent folks but we still don't want to pay twice for the same thing. Do you really need the money that bad? We love your magazine as you can see from many comments here but I am still not willing to pay twice. I have realized that all my magazines have dual print and digital access except those from your publisher. I encourage you to put some pressure on your publisher. The world is changing. If you are truly customer centered you will meet or exceed the needs of your customer and pair up access as soon as possible. After all, you are creating some angry customers out here. You may just end up losing subscribers.

DO NOT SUBSCRIBE..Can't cancel

REAL RATING AT THIS POINT: 0/5 Love the print issue so thought I would sign up for the $1.99/mo program. Was billed for and downloaded the first issue in August. Then I was billed for September and October, but no downloads are showing unless I want to pay again! Tried to use the 'Revert' button to download my purchases, but they aren't there, only the first one. Apple credited me back the most recent charge, but I am still out the Sept. issue wch they say I have to contact this app about. Try calling the number listed on the left for support: You get the main number for all of their publications and must suffer thru 2 minutes of phone options . When I finally reached the this app department, the woman knew nothing about Saveur , and gave me the name of someone in New York who could help. I left a message 1 week ago. And I'm still waiting.... I will update this pending a resolution

Big disappointment

From such a prominent publisher this is a very poor execution. Subscription feature doesn't work. I signed up for the $1.99 per month until I cancel, but there are now two more issues out that I can't access. It says I'm already subscribed, so I can't do anything more unless I go back to the one-at-a-time purchase mode for $4.99. Do they not test these things? They've no doubt hired some incompetent third-party developer and underinvested. And then walked away, saying "Mission accomplished!"

And this is just to get a copy. Once you get a copy, be prepared for another disappointment. It's a plain PDF execution with no embedded links and a non-functioning share feature. No landscape mode. Bonnier Corp. should be more sensitive about what this can do to their brand, especially among the growing market of tablet users.

Worthless

Would you like an unreadable, scanned version of this app that is not modified or enhanced for iPad in any way? Interested in reading a magazine that has to be blown up and shoved around the screen so you can only see a tiny part of the article you are trying to read? This is Saveur for you! That's right! Not only is it expensive, but they will screw up your subscription for free! I still have most of a year's worth on my subscription and I won't even bother contacting customer "service" to try to fix my account so that I can download the remaining issues (if Saveur happened to allow a download which it usually doesn't). You are better off beating yourself in the head with a cast iron skillet (try Le Creuset for best effect) than trying to enjoy Saveur. 6 months of frustration is enough - I am swearing off all things this app.

Cook's Does the same

I'm in agreement with all of you, and it's crazy. I found the same with all the (Cook's IL , Cook's Count, America's T.K. ) who are charging not only for separately for print and pad, but also if you want to use their ( three different websites) you have to pay for each of those as well. It's completely crazy, I also found( as I noticed someone else posted ) that I received only 1 magazine for my paid one years's subscription and I was told by BOTH this app AND COOK's that I only signed up for the " trial " which warranted one ( print ) magazine that was payed for in full. So, I guess one print magazine is $39 odd dollars ? I am angry, and think it really is crummy business to try to convince me that I am in fact completely stupid, when I have credit card charges that show that I paid for what a year's subscription. SO OVER IT!

Stop Stealing my $$$-- is anyone out there???

Since January I have tried to cancel my subscription. I receive a monthly notification from iTunes saying that my credit card will be charged for next month's issue. I click on the link to make a change to me account & my login fails. IS ANYONE OUT THERE??? Saveur is like The Hotel California- check in...can never leave. I haven't been able to open a single issue I have paid for in the past five months. YES-I UPDATE Saveur REGULARLY. As in tonight. While I now see the red this app page (rather than a black screen) that is all I see. No way to see the issues I continue to be charged for. PLEASE FIX Saveur-I love this magazine but if you can't make an app that works, stop advertising it as a viable source for your magazine.

Needs a fix, BADLY!

In order for me to see my subscribed issues, I have to delete Saveur , then reload it, then sign in again. Then I can open whatever issue I want, but as soon as I am in that issue, I can’t get back to the main screen. At which point I have to do the whole process over again. I sent an email to support about this a while ago but have not heard back. Love the print magazine, but Saveur is lacking; and since I travel a bit I like to have the option of seeing my issues in digital. The only reason why o have a second star is because the quality of the digital issue is good and the navigation within issue is good.

Great photos, ok navigation, but not retina ready

Love the magazine, always some of the best food writing. But, like most of the magazines you can buy for the iPad, they use images of pages instead of rendering the layouts for the iPad and doing interesting stuff with the potential there. This is awkward on the first couple versions of the iPad, but utterly fails on the new retina screen. The type is now soooo fuzzed it is pretty unreadable. Of course if they up the resolution of the page images, the size of each issue will skyrocket. Hoping this app will consider an alternate approach.

Great magazine, app works

I'm not sure why others are having problems, but I've been a subscriber for over 6 months and have never had Saveur crash or freeze once.

I love this app and am very happy with the way the digital edition mimics and enhances the magazine experience. I especially like the way you can view one page at a time in portrait view and the two-page spread in landscape view. I'm not sure why all magazines don't do this (I'm looking at you Food & Wine and Bon Appetit).

truly a shame

This may be the most disappointing app on my iPad. For the most part, it does not launch. Ever. It hangs for a while, then kicks you back to Newstand. Deleting Saveur and redownloading it helps, but then you have to redownload all your issues. Extremely tiresome, time-consuming, and worst of all, temporary. It will fail to load again soon.

It's also worth pointing out that this app doesn't offer free electronic editions to its print subscribers. They want you to pay for the same magazine twice. No grace, no class, no gratitude.

this app really is a great food magazine. It's a real shame that they treat subscribers the way they do, and that they can't have a decent, reliable app designed.

If I could only rate it 0 stars

I was subscribed to this app in print for approximately 2 years when I decided to make an Eco friendly choice and change from paper to iPad. Worst choice. Ever.

Saveur is seriously one of the worst designed apps in the history of technology! Worked for about 4 months (bought the one year subscription) and one day it began crashing! I have not been able to download the past 5 issues. I can't even read older issues because Saveur will not even load. SAD!

Dear this app, I love your magazine but your app is bringing me down! Sorry to say this but you have lost a costumer until further notice (aka fix Saveur ).

We was robbed! Charged 1.99 but got nothing

I have enjoyed reading the print version of this app magazine, so I thought it would be nice to have it in my iPad. Big mistake! I paid $1.99 for a one month subscription but so far have not been able to download the current issue. Either the application is defective, or the publishers are hoping to charge readers for issues/subscriptions while providing nothing in return (hoping perhaps that the difficulty of figuring out who to contact about the problem will make people give up). I should have paid heed to the other reviews reporting a similar problem.

Missing subcription downloads appear

I read the FAQ section of Saveur , which you can get to by tapping the Gear for Saveur settings within the Savuer App. In there it says that if your monthly subscriptions are not showing up, even though the monthly 1.99 is being taken by Saveur store then you should delete Saveur from your Ipad, then restore it from Saveur store, then restore your purchases from within Saveur . This worked for me.

Yep - round and round and round to no avail

Just as another user has stated- sign in - sign out and read the tiny little numbers on my subscription tab on paper magazine, enter them - add name - password - and I should be in, right? NOPE - it asks for it all over again... just how dense am I that I did this about 6 or 7 times thinking I had done something wrong - I know, it’s embarrassing just how dense - oh my. So what’s up - you are stating we have access to both paper and digital with our subscriptions - so far this is not true. Either change your statement and your advertising or fix the problem - as this is FALSE ADVERTISING at this point.

Fix This!

LOVED this magazine, print and digital. Been subscribing for over 10 years. When I had the option of adding the digital subscription, I jumped at the chance. All was wonderful until the recent upgrade. I currently have no access to my digital issues that I paid for. After 3 emails to them over the past week and a half, I finally received a response- change your password. Even after I told them I tried this and it didn't work. I am losing all faith. I waited to write this review hoping they would help but no such luck. My recommendation- don't purchase until they fix this!

Awful app

Backed by poor service. Makes hard copy subscribers jump through hoops, only to end up being asked to pay again for each issue. Otherwise fine. Pass on this. Lots of competition.

Cancel Subscription

I have been trying to cancel my subscription for a year. It will not let me.

Zero Stars

New app - still doesn’t work. Done Deleted won’t look back

IOS 8 problems downloading

My magazines were working fine on iPhone and iPad. But after upgrading both to iOS 8, the download button stopped working. I've uninstalled and reinstalled. Happens on both iPhone and iPad. Also happens on my Smithsonian and Cook's illustrated magazines. So their underlying app framework must be the cause. Hoping a new update is on its way. Strange that googling the issue comes up with nada. Am I the only one?
