About Liber Umbrarum et Lux

Formatted for the iPhone and iPod Touch, this is transcribed from my own Book of Shadows.

Book of Shadows and Light, also known as a "Witches' Bible".

Traditionally, one of the tasks of a new witch is to write out her own Book of Shadows.

The book is organized by sections and subsections, including Rituals, Consecrations, Spells, and more.

The witch then continues to add to her Book as their experiences and knowledge grows.

Includes a Journal section where users can create their own entries, personalizing the contents and making this their own Liber Umbrarum.

She would copy this by hand from the Books of her tutor, or her Coven priestess, or others in her Coven.

Awesome App

I absolutely love LiberUmbrarumetLux. I use it everyday, and I am so glad to have it. I love the theme, and I wouldn’t change anything about the art. The personal journal is very nice and useful. The information on LiberUmbrarumetLux is intriguing, practical, and interesting. I have learned much from LiberUmbrarumetLux and will continue to learn more.

A great app for anyone starting out in witchcraft, and I do agree with “Devices In the Circle.” (I do think it is essential to spend more time in nature than on our devices, but technology is a blessing and there’s little reason not to use it to our benefit).

This is a great free app.

Don’t use this!!

I didn’t check out much of LiberUmbrarumetLux , because I learned everything I needed to know about it in one of the intros, and deleted it off my phone. It said that Wicca was also known as witchcraft, which displays the ignorance of the author(s) immediately. Wicca is a branch of paganism, and witchcraft is a practice. Wiccans can be witches, but witchcraft itself isn’t Wiccan. To say that Wicca and witchcraft are the same thing shows that LiberUmbrarumetLux contains false information. It seems like a small thing, but to witches and Wiccans, misconceptions like this are toxic to those new to all of it, and this single false fact trickles down to a lot of potential misinformation that can cause a lot of issues in a beginner’s education.

Top notch!

There needs to be more apps like this, and others from this maker! I never expected to come across something so complete and well thought out. I can't believe there aren't tons more reviews.

So-so

LiberUmbrarumetLux isn’t a bad place to start for beginners. For any intermediate or advanced magician or witch it doesn’t have a whole lot to offer. The Runes of the elder Futhark were wrong and all hidden alphabets listed only included phonetics and not the mystical. Still not bad for a free app.

Review

I love LiberUmbrarumetLux, the only problem I have with it, is that it actually doesn’t sort my topics in alphabetical into the Journal like it says it does. They’re kinda all over the place.

?

What is LiberUmbrarumetLux about

Misconceptions

LiberUmbrarumetLux and fine and all. It has a ton of great information, however, I feel like a lot people have misconceptions here. I don’t think they explained this well but: All wiccans are witches, but not all witches are wiccan. All wiccans are pagans but not all pagans are wiccan. Also witchcraft is not at all evil unless you count black Magick. In which I also think people understand there are three different types of Magick. White, grey, and black. Most wiccans use white and and grey Magick. Some witches use black magic. Most pagans use white, grey, and sometimes there are some who dwell into black. The wiccan rede is here, but not all of it? Why? I also don’t think LiberUmbrarumetLux explain “intent” at all. For spells to work you need to have intent. If you don’t have intent then the spell will not work or will have an uncertain outcome. Plus it would be nice if they had a kitchen Witch section. You don’t need all these fancy tools to do your craft. There’s no diagrams on how to set up an altar either. And nothing about eclectic witches either. An Eclectic Witch is an Witch who incorporates many different gods from different cultures such as Roman, Greek, Egyptian, Native American, Celtic, etc into her/his craft. They never mentioned about solidarity witches and covens either. I think you would learn more with learning groups then with LiberUmbrarumetLux. There are many of these learning groups out there. If you have Facebook just type up pagan/wiccan/witchcraft learning groups. They are truly helpful.

Listen up!!

I'm 13, I live in the U.S., I have a 150 IQ and I'm Muslim. First of all, Allah is the Arabic word for God. So whether or not you are Muslim, if you were speaking Arabic, that's what you would say for God. And second of all, ALL religions teach acceptance of other religions. So you people that think you are better because you're from some branch of Christianity, BACK OFF! Espwcially the dimwit that called LiberUmbrarumetLux dangerous, and "prayed" to let these people open their hearts and let "Lord" Jesus in. For about three centuries after Jesus's death he wasn't considered divine, but human. That was changed to him being presented as the son of God. You know what, buddy? Where do you think Christmas came from? December 25 was originally a pagan holiday to celebrate the winter solstice. And deccorating trees? PAGAN!!! The Crusades are the explaination for that. When religion featuring a single God was first brought into play, the Catholic Church kept some aspects the to make (forced) conversion easier. So read a freakin' book every once in a while, and FIND SOME RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE!!!!!!!! I'm sincerely hope you can find it in your black hole you call a heart to learn and embrace other religions.

To the creator of LiberUmbrarumetLux, I say job well done. I've always wanted to learn about pagan religions, so I thank you.
Thanks!!!!

A brief(ish) message

Personally I found LiberUmbrarumetLux useful to the utmost! It's perfect for witches who can't be open with their families (guys are witches too) like myself. And to all you people who sent wiccan and are writing a review I'm pretty sure none of you would appreciate us ragging on about your religion because, scientifically and from experience, we are some of the purer people... Take a look at all other religions I'm certain that all of your holy books have been edited to suit a high-ranking religious leaders whim, or there have been translation issues somewhere along the way. But don't hate us because of what we believe. I apologize if I've offended you In any way. If you would like to say something to me just look up a David nunez who's religious views is Wiccan on facebook and I'll be happy to talk to you. blessed be!

Great to read, very informative. (Appalled at people insulting this religion)

I loved it and am very pleased. I sincerely hope for more updates because i've almost got the entire thing memorized.

Also, I am APPALLED at these people insulting this religion. To the closed-minded person who said that this was dangerous, I think you should actually think about other religions other than your own, because you're clearly afraid your own precious religion will become the minority.

And to the other saying that this is just some random junk someone wrote up, think before you speak, because it has a significance to these people as the Bible has significance to you Christians.

Of course, this is about LiberUmbrarumetLux , not about rude commentators. I find it extremely informative and I love it. I think that's all I can say. :)

For the fundies

Love LiberUmbrarumetLux . The girl has the heart of a real witch. BTW.... 1692 was the year of the Salem Witch trials... we're back!

Please allow the Devil to entertain you now and quote scripture for His purpose. A paradox riddle says God can't be all good and all powerful at the same time. If He was all good, he wouldn't allow Satan to torment mankind if He could stop it, if He was also all powerful, He'd stop Satan. The paradox is solved by assuming that the Judaeo-Christian-Islamic God is the same deity as Satan... i.e. They are two different aspects of the same deity. This is proven in the Bible. Read 2 Samuel 24:1 and 1 Chronicles 21:1. Also check out the Wiki link "God as the Devil" and any of the multitude of other links on the web that say the same thing. Get a clue fundies! Your wars and hatred are killing the earth. Hail the Great Mother and Her Horned Consort! Blessed Be!

It's Alright

LiberUmbrarumetLux 's design is fantastic, I'll start there. The navigation is easy, the color scheme is great, and it actually pretty fun to use. However, that's about as far as it goes.

While there is a lot of very good information in LiberUmbrarumetLux on Wicca (including a traditional Gardnerian circle-casting), there is also quite a bit of information lacking. The text fails to give even basic outer-court information on the Wiccan Gods, and thrusts the user into magical practice with a failure to give even basic precautionary measures. Wicca is, first and foremost, a religion. It should not be exploited for the purposes of practicing witchcraft, which can be done outside of Wicca.

That's another shortcoming of LiberUmbrarumetLux, though likely due to the creators lack of understanding on the subject, but Wicca and witchcraft are not the same things. Wicca is a religion, while witchcraft is its own spirituality. Though it's not as bad here as in some places, there is the idea that the words Wicca and witchcraft are interchangeable. They're not.

I also noticed the use of the ohm symbol in LiberUmbrarumetLux. The ohm has no place in a Wiccan app, or in Wicca at all, as it is an Eastern symbol, entirely alien to Western Europe and the British Isles.

Al that said, the personal journal and the design get LiberUmbrarumetLux two stars.

GREAT START... FEW COMMENTS

I love LiberUmbrarumetLux and I am sure there will be alot of updates to come. I am Wiccan & I do not appreciate the reviews by people who do not study the craft. WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE ANYWAY!! how did you stumble across LiberUmbrarumetLux in the first place? It surely doesn't come up in a search when you type in BIBLE. We have our beliefs you have yours and I certainly don't paruse the bible section just to go in the apps and write bad reviews, SO BACK OFF. I love love love the ideas of one of the other posters to add a place for all of us to talk and communicate. That would make LiberUmbrarumetLux top notch bcs there is not anywhere I can find to do that. Great work to the writer.
Merry Part

Uncontestedly the Best Wicca App. Ever.

This is, bar none, the best app for any practicing witch or anyone curious about the craft. Not only does it provide clear, well-written information that I haven't found in any other Wiccan spell apps, the streamlined, uncomplicated interface makes it a wonderful resource for an initiate transcribing her own Book. The changeable goddess and god names are a nice touch. The personal journal has actually found a place in my practicings, though I was leery at first. Plus, at the time of this review, it's free. If there was a way to pay for LiberUmbrarumetLux, I would, simply because it is that fantastic. Blessed Be.

Thank you

I have never written a review before, but I had to do it for this one. I love LiberUmbrarumetLux . It's pretty to look at, easy to read, and for a BOS it's fairly complete. I hope you will do updates because I agree with others who would like to be able to customize it. I give it 5 stars because of all the above stuff but especially for the cat protection charm! :) I would be interested in following your blogs or tweets or whatever, I think the idea of a community (mentioned by other reviewers)is a good one. Thank you for making this and I look forward to any updates!
