His Dark Materials: My Daemon Reviews

Seriously. I get authenticity, but if I don’t like what I’m “assigned” (literally), I just won’t play. Let me know when you don’t force players to settle for whatever dumb animal you think they should have.

Aside from taking the test 20+ times, I’d also recommend a “select another name” option. I love my boy, but “Demades” just doesn’t seem to suit him, and I’ve seen other names I absolutely adored!

After getting going, I’m really quite enjoying the game. I like the fact you can cycle through activities to find something within your current scope, so you can consistently interact and enjoy the game. I will note that I now have many tasks open because I keep forgetting to restart and am a very active person. My watch isn’t really syncing with HisDarkMaterials , where I get notifications but can’t see the whole text, or view current tasks (or mark them off, or accept new ones). But I expect these are in the works and will get there.

For a fan of the book for about two decades and the tv show - I have grown to love and adore this world and these characters and to have this fun little app to bring to life getting your own daemon and playing is really like a childhood fantasy come true, so in a way any shortfalls I can forgive because I know update are coming and they’re working on it.
But the game is amazing - I wasn’t sure about my daemon at first, a red Pine Martin named Machon (a male daemon for a male - but I kinda like it), but his personality and animations are adorable and I even think about him when I’m not playing. I love how it interacts with real life and integrates and hope it integrates even more in the future like meditation and things and more apps to link too, but for now it’s really cool.
Can’t wait to see what will happen after I unlock all the animations - will there be another update or more things to do with the daemon? I love just having a silly distraction throughout the day to play with that reminds me of my favorite world and makes me feel a part of it.
Suggestion - games to play with your daemon would be so awesome.
And I would be willing to pay for extras. Really. I love how much fun this already is and way blown away by its sophistication for a free app.

No matter what I answer 9/10 you get a chameleon. The last 1/10 is a monkey. I have tried answering these questions 30 different times and in different ways to test the system. Quite disappointing really. I have zero interest in either of these animals. I am sure others would be just as disappointed to get a chameleon. Feels really rigged. I will have the jaguar or leopard or fox show up through most of it and then bam chameleon again. Maybe work on your outcomes and algorithms a bit more. I havent even played further because i have zero interest in playing with a chameleon or a monkey.

So I downloaded the game all fine win at first but then out of no were I got a monkey 🐒 and I deleted the game because I was not happy with what animal I got and there was no way to change it but win I downloaded it again I had the same thing and there was some one else that said that it only has two animals fix your game because after I am finished writing this am deleting this game so long your game is boring oh and I don’t like it 😡😡👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎🥔🥔🥔🥔
Stupid potato game that’s why there is potato’s and this is what I thinks so ya you can like the game or what ever but I don’t so am telling the creator to fix the thing with animals and that’s all but am really bummed because the add that I saw looked fun but I did not get what the add said sorry if I said something to hurt the creators fellings but I know how hard it is to make a game but he or she could do better that’s all sorry if this long but I don’t like the game so yep 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

I expected nothing more than a simple quiz that would reveal my potential demon. I can tell you with certainty that there are more than five animals in the world, so I don’t understand why my result wouldn’t change based upon each individual answer. I would expect that each question mattered, but they don’t. I changed my answers 10 times, and eventually just ended up putting the opposite answer in for everything. I understand the 4 answers approach might work for a Hogwarts house test, but there are literally thousands of species and nobody would like to be a tiny boy chameleon. Here’s some potential recommendations: Snakes, cats, eagles, foxes, kangaroos, red pandas, dogs, panthers, lions, wolves, hawks, tree frogs, bats, rabbits, parrots, and otters. There, I did your job for you. If you’re lacking ideas, just reference the books, or the show (and don’t do completely aquatic animals because they kind of limit movement).

I don’t even watch the show but it is a nice little game to help you do some activities. It really does help me decide what to do, maybe a walk or read a book? My little chameleon friend is a perfect fit for me but I do wish there were more choices at possible daemon types. Only issue I have is it seems like there is no real way to make sure you did something. You could say you are gonna go for a walk then two seconds later say its done and just advance that way without really doing anything. It also seems like it doesn't matter how stressed, tired or focused you are you get the same possible activities offered to you.

Stop complaining about not getting the animal you want. Clearly you do not know what this mean. It is you taking a quiz to see what your Dæmon would be. Which one is you, like your soul animal. There is nothing wrong with HisDarkMaterials . Thank you to the people who made HisDarkMaterials I was hoping for a ferret or a wolf because knowing myself I’m one of the two, and when I got HisDarkMaterials I got a cute little ferret named Entochus and he’s absolutely adorable to take around with me!
———————————————————————Edit: I was loving the game so much. But after having it for like 2-3 days, maybe 4. It started crashing like it wouldn’t even open HisDarkMaterials and if I did it would black out and not even show up as an app I opened so I had to delete it and redownload and it still crashed I lost my piebald weasel :,c because your game won’t open.

I completely deleted HisDarkMaterials and did all the questions, choosing different answers each time, six consecutive times in a row. I even chose different names the last two in utter desperation to get ANYTHING besides a chameleon or a monkey. I dislike monkeys, and I definitely don’t think I’m a chameleon at all, and I don’t want to be something that moves 2 mph. I’ll list my attempts below.

Please, explain to me why you’re claiming to have 80 different animals/color combos when I can ONLY get 2, choosing different things each time!? I’m really frustrated and I WANT to love HisDarkMaterials, i love the movie, and as a kid it fascinated me and was one of my favorites, and I can always use some motivation, but good lord I just REFUSE to be a monkey or a chameleon! Please update me when this is fixed so I can enjoy HisDarkMaterials . At this point, I would’ve accepted almost anything besides those two. Even if I got a mosquito it would’ve been a light in the darkness that other options ARE available. But they’re just not!

I like the His Dark Material books and struggle with PTSD and Depression. HisDarkMaterials actually makes it a lot easier to take care of myself through small activities.

I see a lot of people salty that they got the chameleon but I got the snow leopard so I guess I’m just built different ✨

I have had no issues with HisDarkMaterials crashing and so far the functionality, while limited, is very fun and motivating. I love my little dæmon friend.

I have some general concerns that this is just promotional and that over time they will get rid of HisDarkMaterials .
I’m also concerned that there seems to be no way to link your dæmon to your email or something so you can make sure you don’t lose them. I think I’d be heartbroken if I lost Aesara.

I hope that this game continues to have support because it helps my mental health a TON. Better than any other activity tracker app I have downloaded.

Love HisDarkMaterials and the concept! My inner 10 year old is beyond geeked to finally meet her daemon!!

I know app tie ins for television shows usually have a short shelf life but this has so much potential!

Please build on this idea especially the Apple Watch and Apple health integrations. This is exactly the sort of thing my covid isolation routine needs!!

Suggestions:

- fix Apple health integration to auto-complete tasks
- add the ability to set custom reminders (stand up, drink water, work out, go to bed)
- set up multiple daily tasks
- make it easier to select multiple tasks

I really like this game; the fact that we can choose our own daemons ( sometimes..) is amazing. But I have some suggestions, if you don’t mind:

1. We should be able to name our daemon.
2. The game journey should be an actual realm in the game, where you can walk around in the chapter, and you are able to see your daemon.
3. Our daemon should be able to shift into different animals than stay just one..
4. The game is terribly slow and glitchy, and it showed a black screen when I open it; please try to fix it..
5. We should be able to pick our Damon’s original shape. ( UPDATE)
6. Please let us pick and customize our daemon, this is probably a good feature..
That is the list of of suggestions I have for the game, please try to acknowledge this list; but above all, I really love this game, and I recommend it.

As someone with DID this has helped me center myself a little more with good ideas for stuff to keep me busy and keep my mind off of stuff while also having an interactive element and it just got me to do a online museum tour and it was actually really cool and not something I’d think to do on my own so it’s been opening me up a bit to other options rather than doing the same thing every day

In my opinion, I think the makers of HisDarkMaterials did a pretty good job. I feel as if it is very underrated for the quality of the animation and activities. It’s like a Pokémon Go app but it encourages exercise more. It also helps you with your mind and spirt, aside from fitness. You get to take quests with all the characters! The one problem would be 2/3 of my family got Black Jaguars :/ it can use a bit of work. Please consider getting this game♥️

HisDarkMaterials was cute and fun. I downloaded it just because I loved the books and was curious what daemon I would get. The test was a lot like the Patronus quiz on Pottermore, and I wasn’t too surprised by my result, although I liked his name, Galen. The premise of game-ified wellness was interesting, although I personally wouldn’t use it for that. The animation is really good, and the little messages the daemon gives are fun. Worth downloading just to check it out if you like the books or TV show.

Love the game so far! The 3D AR is well done. Great way to integrate self care with the visuals of the show and the spirit of the original books. I have enjoyed the Would have been better to have a longer quiz at the start and maybe a few more possible animals. I have enjoyed the journey take so far, and am looking forward to future updates!

After a few tries of getting chameleon and monkey I finally got the Jaguar(I was after something that just wasn’t the monkey or chameleon 😅) I’m happy with him and have no complaints...although I wish there was a way to play with them more, something like petting them, IDK serotonin sounds nice 😅

So my issues: AR and it keeps backtracking/not saving?
So with the AR I’m not sure if that’s my incapablity or if it’s not working, but I can’t seem to get it to work, IDK.
And what I mean by it backtracking, I have completed 4 of the main quests, but for some odd reason when I put in my stuff to go on to the next quest or complete my activities, when I reopen HisDarkMaterials it’s just gone, like it’s not there anymore??? IDK what’s going on and I dunno what to do.

If these are bugs please fix, if not please give me advice?

I really enjoy the game as is and have enjoyed playing with it the past couple of days. I do have an idea though I don’t know how difficult it may be to do. The idea is like in the books and the show when you first download HisDarkMaterials you get an unsettled daemon. But as you connect with your daemon and work your way through the story have it settle. And it would settle based off the questions at the start of the game and the choices you made as you play. Anddddd my game just started to crash so I hope it gets fixed soon .

I like it because even if you don’t have a real pet you can have a virtual one I got the fox, for those who say you can’t restart and get a new daemon you can just do to settings go to the bottom and tap reset account and boom you can do the test again. This game is really nice I’m hoping that the devs keep updating it and adding new features:)

As with any good thing... it needs improvements. I wish I could talk with my daemon. Like that would make it awesome.
HisDarkMaterials is solid. I find myself more... relaxed, and it helps chill. It’s kind of like having an ESA without having to actually have one or convince your landlord to let you have one. Lol

But it is actually a good app for mental health too :D. If I’m anxious, I’ll pop this open while my meds do their work.

I downloaded HisDarkMaterials because I thought it would be cute, sort of like a Tomagotchi. It’s not really, although my Daemon is adorable. If anything it’s more like a self help app, it prompts you to do meditative and physical exercises through an adventure/game format to help you build mental and physical health. Wasn’t what I anticipated but I like it! And the AR feature is neat.

Fun idea but you have like a 50/50 chance of getting either a monkey or a chameleon no matter how you answer the questions. Should have more possibilities.

I love how everyone gets a unique daemon to match their personality :3. I find the game really nice. I can interact with Hediste (my Daemon), play an adventure, and BE ACTIVE. The child I am can’t get up off a chair! Would recommend this to anybody who wants to have fun and stay fit! 🐆

I try to open it up, and all I get is a black screen that lasts 5 seconds, and HisDarkMaterials crashes. Terrible!

Download, try to open, black screen, nothing. Would love to try for fun as a His Dark Materials fan, happy it works for others but not sure why it won’t work for me. Will update review if fixed.

I have an iPhone 7 and it was working last night but now I can’t get into HisDarkMaterials help plz

when i try to open it it just gives me a black screen and then crashes.
