Perigon - Total 360° News Reviews

Another news app that collaborates multiple sources into one tidy place. I need Perigon (or another like it) to work, but it’s not there yet. I’ve used similar apps (News Break) that were full of junk like promotional links every other headline.

This one does a good job of filtering out the junk, but it has some issues...

You can’t mute topics (even though there is a muted topics section under “content controls”). You can only mute sources. I don’t want to mute everything from Newsweek (although maybe I should) but I do want to mute everything about Lindsay Lohan.

Local or regional news is absent.

The “My Activity” section can’t be altered. In a privacy obsessed world, this seems like a major oversight.

Still, I’m holding onto hope with this one. I anticipate that after a few improvement updates it will become my go to news app. Oh, did I forget to mention the good? Give it a try; I think you’ll think it was worth it.

There is a lot of potential for Perigon and I love their concept but it just feels like Beta right now. Many things don’t work. I’ve experienced several crashes. Lots of spinning balls waiting for content to load. Sometimes it doesn’t load and you have to force quit and start again. iPad is vertical only which is annoying. Favorites category doesn’t work, just spins forever on iPhone and iPad even with 1.01 bug fix update.

I also really don’t appreciate they make you sign up with email address AND phone number to actually use Perigon . Without signing up it’s not really useful at all. There’s no technical reason you would need to sign up, they just want to collect our info. Is that for a future sale of our personal info? They aren’t clear and they do leave that open to possibility on their website. I really cannot recommend Perigon until they make a lot of updates.

Just discovered a wonderful feature that compelled me to write a review. The news consists of a list of headlines. This shows links to two news sources, with a number under it like +18. When you click the number, you get all the stories they curated with a slider to adjust to the left or right of the political spectrum. This is great, because I turn off the lying outlets like CNN NPR *BC, etc. on my main feed but sometimes you want to see what they say. It also has what seems to be the best fact check on the Internet. Very factual and balanced.
One glitch: the news Reader View has ads and formatting removed but sometimes you lose videos, and when you switch back to the regular page view it is very temporary. So I suggest turning off reader view.

Gawq is truly the future; it is a gift to humanity; people deserve It!! For too long, we have been victims of major news networks attempting to control our thinking. They have told us what to think, how to vote, what is truth and what is false; pushing their agendas and biased views on us. However, Gawq offers people the necessary tools to fight back and challenge fake and bias news (on both sides of the aisle). With the many Gawq features (filters, and fact checks, and ratings, and reviews), an individual has the tools not only to challenge news channels but actual journalists writing these false or biased articles. Truth is power, and Gawq gives us the tools and resources to seek and find that TRUTH!! Thank you, Gawq!!

I love that Perigon lets you view stories by “most covered.” Rather than relying on an algorithm that serves up news you want to see, Gawq lets me read the news that’s actually happening in the world, even if I don’t agree with it. I’ve been really struggling to find a news app that I can use daily and trust to give me the full picture. I love that Gawq lets you read news with a reader mode too, so I’m not always jumping in and out of Perigon . Also being able to sort out paid news sources is great so I’m not always getting blocked by paywalls.

Finally, a news app that gives me access to all the news I want. In my business, I need accurate and timely news from all sorts of perspectives. In this age of carefully curated news offerings that are designed to divide and sensationalize rather than inform or unite we need an app like this. I am getting a more holistic view from a greater variety of sources than ever before. And I love being able to rate headlines that are misleading. So much better than any of my other news apps or trying to get my news from social media. I can’t wait to see what you add next.

App said I was offline and does not show any news, but has been corrected. I love the idea of unfiltered news with no sales articles or tough to avoid news+. Wish I could filter for words, like , never show any articles with certain words.

Perigon is a dream come true!!! Watching or following a specific news source can be dangerous and make you misinformed and biased. Trying to toggle between even just two news sources can be overwhelming and exhausting. Therefore, Gawq is truly a dream come true!!! I have been searching for a way to GET TO THE FACTS, and Gawq is the engine that drives me right there!!! Even in it’s genesis, it is fantastic!!! I am expecting great things from Perigon!!!

I really respect the ideals of Gawq as they’ve outlined in their manifesto. Integrity in journalism, while by no means a new concept, has been greatly warped and ignored in the interest of preaching to the choir and generating clickbait. I also utilize their filters quite a bit, and I look forward to leaving thoughts and reviews on what I’ve read. Definitely a breath of fresh air!

I enjoy being able to sort and filter the headlines (i.e. no opinion pieces, no pop culture). The interface is very minimalistic-in a good way. No distracting fluff, no pointless notifications (but notifications for big Breaking News are included on Gawk). Perigon is excellent. I will continue to use it daily!

I love the interface of Perigon it is so simple and easy to use. Being able to compare so many various sources side by side would take forever before Perigon. It is great to be able to fact check for yourself and to know the content isn’t being manipulated!!

I really like the idea of Gawq, the variety in content and that it tries to show multiple views on the topic. It has a good layout and OK navigation. Could use some more navigation gestures like swiping to go between categories.

Unfortunately, Perigon crashes too often when opening articles. I don't know what in the articles crashes Perigon but its consistent.

I absolutely love Gawq! Perigon is easy to navigate and I really value the ability to customize and filter out the news I don’t wish to read. It’s been difficult to find a platform that provides unbiased news updates. Glad I downloaded GAWQ.

As a news junkie I wake up in the middle of the night and go from app to app in shock. This is a junkies dream. Hats off. Now I know it’s legit I’m thinking about erasing them all and being an official Gawker. I might keep one or two as it’s only been a week but almost sold.

Since quitting twitter had been looking for a site that just gives me the facts and no slant based on what I’d looked at before.

Absolutely love the site. Love the variety of sources and the way I can filter (or not) what interests me.

I have found my perfect news app. It’s got just the right amount stories to browse in a great format, without the constant spins. I had a suggestion for the devs and they replied back the same day! I couldn’t be happier.

The reason why I gave it a 4 out of 5 is because I would love to have Gawq available on a laptop or an iPas. That is how much I love Perigon. It’s the only news source I use.

Gawq offers a great way to get the news and keep up to date on the latest events happening around the world. I’ve been recommending Perigon since I found it.

I don’t review often (because I’m lazy), but this is truly one of the greatest apps of this year. It is designed so well. It has no ads. It is extremely unbiased.

Deleted and re-downloaded new version of Perigon and everything is working fine. Great news app!

This is a fantastic app. Organizing news by topic vs media source is genius and should actually be the standard way news content is consumed. Strips ads from reader and loads content lightning fast - game changer. The ability to review and rate based on truth is exciting. And very novel to be able to see the topics as covered by right and left sides of the media.

Excited to continue using it and interacting with the reviews and rating system. Here’s hoping Perigon becomes the go to source for news and truly unbreaks it at scale.
