Don’t trust with credit card info

So I enjoyed skip for the first week I used it; many of the scooters had malfunctions and I had a couple small transactional issues but overall it was worth the fun and connivence. Then yesterday I got a notification letting me know that I completed a ride for several hundred minutes and racked up about 50$ worth of charges. Not had I not completed a ride, but I also hadn’t used a scooter in several days. When I called customer support because I felt my issue was immediate, the customer service person was from a call center not affiliated with skip and told me the best he could do was report the issue to skip like I had already done. I’m not sure what the purpose of the number was but when a skip rep finally got back to me via email they told me it was a ‘glitch’ and they’d refund my money in 2-5 days. I failed to eat any sort of compensation despite the fact that I received overdraft fees because of the ridiculous amount I was charged for something I literally didn’t do. It’s clear to me their application is too prone to glitches to be trusted with confidential payment information & their customer service on several levels made me feel as if my issue was trivial and not worth compensating. Overall it’s a buggy product that I don’t think is worth the risk of potential loss of money and time. If someone from skip wants to help me out that’s dope but otherwise I would say cop a lime or bird.

Skip scooters are okay, but the app makes them unusable.

First off let me say I love, skip scooters when they are actually where SkipScooters says they are, and when they actually work, but an unbelievable amount of time they do NOT work. There is almost ALWAYS something wrong with them, and you are not given any reason why, or any way of telling SkipScooters that that scooter is broken. Thus, they continue to make money from people paying the 1$ to start the scooter, figuring out it doesn’t actually work, and then being out a dollar. This has happened to me a dozen times in just the past month. For now, SAVE YOUR PHONE SPACE. Get Bird, or Lime. They have apps that are updated constantly so you know which scooters will actually work and how much battery they have. Maybe one day skip will actually get a decent app, until then it will simply cost you money.

I love scooting

I love scooting. Ever since I got on my first scooter a month ago it has become my preferred method of travel and my newest obsession. I scoot every opportunity I get: to and from work, to meet my friends, and even sometimes just to tool around the city.

That being said, all of my fun scooting has happened on the other 2 scooter-share companies in DC. I have never successfully been able to use a Skip. Every single time I’ve tried they are either broken or can’t be unlocked. Don’t waste your time going to look for one, you’re better off walking.

P.S. waybots was a way cooler name, but I’m guessing, based on my experience with the company, that they were advised to rebrand after many negative customer experiences

Don’t trust Skip with your credit card!!!

I know other reviews have already said this, but skip ripped me off and stressed me out so much, it wasn’t worth the novelty of an electric scooter ride. They first tried to charge me $25 extra yesterday because it said I was “out of bounds”...I was in the middle of SF and at the time they had rolled out no map indicating what the boundaries might be. I called in to get the fee taken away and, considering that I had scootered around for 20 minutes trying to find an in bounds location, I asked if I could get some money back from my ride. They said yes but instead of getting rid of any charges they DOUBLED THEM! Worst company ever, it’s just not worth it to go for a ride and deal with all this stress.

Edit: while they didn’t end up actually charging me the $25 they did charge me triple “activation fees” and double the base ride fare (all for one ride). After repeatedly contacting customer service they did refund me. Still don’t think it’s worth it to go for a ride.

Terrible customer service, don’t trust with your $

Skip has the worst customer service I’ve ever seen. I ended a ride that was 3 blocks away from my house, should have been about 2.50$ max, took a picture of parking and everything. Come back out to go home and the ride was still going, it glitched and never ended, even though I ended it. It charged me around 19$, when I contacted costumer service they basically told me next time I should be more careful when ending a ride. Any other company would have apologized about the error and received a refund. They said they don’t see an error on their side and can send me a 5$ voucher... no sorry a 5$ voucher isn’t going to fix this problem. After reading several other reviews I saw other people with the same complaint. Apparently they have done this to many people. Not a trustworthy company and awful costumer service. Stick with bird and lime scooters.

Best actual scooter, worst app

Comparing the skip scooters to Bird and Lime, the actual scooter of skip is the best, and safest feeling of all. It has a wider platform to stand on, a stronger motor, better control, better handle bar comfort, and they can fold (the others can’t) if you collect them as a charger. SkipScooters on the other hand, lacks core functionality, such as checking the battery % before paying for the ride, gambling activating one on 15%. Ride history would be nice too. I had a rare issue happen and support was extremely quick and extremely nice. Skip is by far the best scooter share company here in Portland, I just wish they would improve their app a little bit.

Rarely works

Tbh, the skip scorers are my favorite. I feel they go faster than the other two DC scooter companies, but that’s probably because skip scooters are usually pretty jacked up and damaged looking.

SkipScooters is pretty garbage; scooters always have unlocking issues or are dead on battery. Why have them appear on the all of the battery is too low to ride?

Please also add a ride history feature; i expense my commute and scooting is a lot more fun than a Lyft and would like to make doing my expense report as easy as Lyft does.

Unethical business practices.

It’s unfortunate because SkipScooters is great and the scooters are great, but I have been charged hundreds of dollars in fees because of my scooter ride not ending properly. I already pay them the 40$ monthly subscription and I’ve had to dish out hundreds in addition to that. Support is unhelpful and unwilling to accommodate- even though they can clearly see via the gps that the scooter had sat for the time being charged. I’m convinced that the company knows this is a money-making scheme.. otherwise, why not send the rider a notification that this scooter has been idle for 2 or 5 minutes to avoid this? Instead they wait for 90 minutes to automatically shut the scooter off which leaves them with a hefty amount of money to collect.

Very disappointing, but happy to take my business elsewhere.

Speechless

This company will leave you speechless on lack of human decency. Their app is glitchy, doesn’t end when you ask it to (resulting in a LOT of money being charged) — They refuse to admit it’s their app and will not refund. (fun fact— just dispute with bank, they do not respond to these OR BBB requests). The new locks do not work. Today, I waited 30 minutes pleading with them to lock my scooter so I could go to breakfast. They would not admit their lock was faulty (it wasn’t locked to anything when I found it). All in all, they put us through the fire on multiple occasions. They do not deserve to be in business or be on SkipScooters Store. Stay away— not worth the headache or frustrations. Now… que the canned response from the developer below :-) …..

Poor operations and application

Scooters are fun! Skip just irks me. SkipScooters rarely works. Very frequently, nothing comes up (in perfectly normal weather.) when it does, the scooters are almost never where SkipScooters suggests. I can be standing on the blue dot and nothing. Not a scooter in sight.

Operations. They make a company decision to pull the scooters when the forecast calls for rain. The “rain” that has occurred on these days has been mist. Other companies don’t do this, rather, they educate their customers. They are over indexing here and disrupting the commuting options. If you don’t want to have your scooters out when the forecast calls for rain, get out of San Francisco and let’s get a provider in here that wants our business.

The Best Scooter

Today I had my first ride on a Skip scooter and it was fantastic! I’ve tried the other scooters Lime and Bird but neither compare to the ride of Skip. The base is a bit bigger and the scooter seems to handle the rode much more smoothly than the other two. The only downside of Skip is they are hard to come by so I generally use Lime and if I can’t find a Lime nearby, I walk because Bird isn’t worth my time. I hope Skip is able to expand their fleet soon, I will definitely be a regular.

Apps great but just one tip...

SkipScooters verifying process is unintuitive. Sign up was great but I have to scan the scooter first to do the necessary step like scanning ID card. I often sign up at home, and scooters are no where near. The next day, I was in a hurry to use but now had to stand there to do these things and it wasted another 3 mins before I can use the scooter. What if these things were prepped first at the beginning when you sign up? Just a suggestion. Not a deal breaker but it would do wonder for people like me, which I would consider to be a big user base in the bay area.

Report/Suggestion

I’ve been using the service for a couple of days and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I’ve seen people misusing it. Today I there was only this scooter near me, and I really needed to use, but a guy was ridding on it and moving it with his legs, of course without paying anything. The scooter was beeping but nothing that could make him stop. So, my suggestion would be to lock the wheels in those cases and just unlocked them when someone really want to used it.

Not owned by evil Uber

Scooters just arrived in Portland and I’ve spent two weeks trying all three brands. Lime is decent, Bird is too expensive and doesn’t run at night, but Skip is my favorite. The ride is smoother, the board is wider and sturdier, the lights are at the bottom and actually let you see the ground at night, and best of all Skip isn’t partially owned by Uber or owned by a disgraced former Uber executive. Uber is evil, Skip is good. I just wish there were more of them in Portland. It seems like there are twice as many Limes.

Disneyland on the Street

I never had this much fun since Disneyland. Me and my wife visited DC from Jersey and we saw this scooters running around and the moment we tried it we just fell in love on how easy to go around the city and we literally “SKIP”ed the traffic. We used it to go around the monuments and the museums and we capped it off by scootering our way to our dining destination. I’m giving it 7/5 stars, 2 more extra stars than the maximum for giving me a very fun experience.

Missing bird in SF

Due to recent S.F. legislation, inexperienced scooter operators were chosen for this city. Skip has zero functionality after you ride. No payment receipts are provided and you are not even able to see your ride history. You are not able to contact support through SkipScooters and once you physically call their support helpline, they usually have no idea how to help you. Their scooters are quite honestly extremely janky and it feels like all the bolts are loose. The acceleration handle and the breaks are never consistent and who knows where they are since the map in SkipScooters takes too long to load. Yes, I have the latest updated version and the newest iPhone. Bird, come back. We miss you.

Best way to travel around the city.

Loved using the scooter to travel around DC. The only thing I would suggest for a future update is to allow the user to see how much money has been spend during the duration of the trip. Would have been nice to see where I was in money spent. After 3 hours it wasn’t bad in price, I would have kept going but being that it was my first time renting and I had no idea of how much it would be in the end, I was nervous I was racking up a big bill. All-in-all, great way to travel around a city.

First Ride was a little unnerving

Fun but takes some getting used to! Most important!! It’s not like a motorcycle where the more pressure on the GO lever increases speed. It’s either full ON or OFF! Also you have to have the weight of one foot on the back by the wheel. You can Coast by flipping the GO lever off. Applying the brake also works but be prepared for full power to come on once you release the brake. Once you get used to it is fun. Just be careful!

Need a pause ride options

I love using the scooters except for the fact that when you go into a store or a restaurant, anybody can take your scooter and then you don’t have a scooter when you come out. That happened to me today when I went inside the store for five minutes, and I had to walk almost a mile to get another scooter. Additionally sometimes I have gotten scooter that just keeps stopping at random times, and that’s clearly an issue when you need to get somewhere and there’s no other scooters around.

Scooters are the best way to see the National Mall

Well done Skip, these electric scooters are awesome. Recommend you put 2-3 mechanics on the Mall, at least during summer weekends, to help tighten breaks, check and fix small things. Plus show people how to use them and give recommendations on where to go on them. To boost user numbers you need people who can promote and show the public how to use them safely. Good luck!

Skip does not pay rangers/chargers on time!

I have been working for skip as a charger or ranger whatever they say for the past 4 months. I have never experienced terrible support for rangers who we go out there in the cold, rain, snow late at night and early in the morning. The biggest issue is about being paid on time or not getting PAID AT ALL. I regularly pick up 20-30 skips a day. That’s $160-$240 worth per day that I charge and dropped. They would only pay me once out of 5 days! I’ll have to wait 48 hours for them to investigate and properly pay me. That leaves me at the end of not making payments for bills I owe. It’s a terrible application if you are looking to earn money with skip - they will under pay and under appreciate your hard work. I always have to screen shot everything from all the skips I picked up to the time that I do not have any skips in possession. If you are looking for work similar to charging - work with bird or line they never had any issues for paying me on time.
