Much better than mnemonics

If you are having a hard time learning notes or simply want an effective way to learn them, you should absolutely get NotesTeacher. I’ve only been using it an hour and my note identification has already improved leaps and bounds. I’m an adult beginner learning to play piano. I’d been relying on mnemonics to learn the grand staff. But no matter how much I worked on note identification exercises, my note recognition was not improving. I realized the mnemonics were hindering me. Having to state the whole mnemonic, then applying the correct word to the correct note, then finding the note on the staff is not effective. This is a cumbersome and frustrating way for me to learn, and I was beginning to feel hopeless. I’m also using a Faber adult beginners book and love the way it progresses by gradually introducing new notes. So I searched the web for other music note apps that would teach more in that way and found Notes Teacher.

NotesTeacher is great! I love that one new note is introduced at a time, and I can repeat each lesson as many times as I want. I’m already feeling more confident after just an hour and believe I will soon be able to progress in my piano lessons. To the developer, thank you so much for making NotesTeacher and helping learners like me.

Great app, thank you so much!

I have tried several different apps to learn music notes because I bought a violin and I’m determined to learn how to play it. The only problem is.... I can’t read music. I know, that’s a big problem. Most apps do color coordinated things are you learn more to rely on the colors than the actual letters or “notes.” With NotesTeacher, it teaches one note at a time, gives a lesson, and let’s you repeat that quick lesson as many times as you need to until you feel comfortable moving to the next note. I’m in my 40’s so sometimes I have to repeat it a few times to get it to stick it my old brain, lol. But this is by far the fastest way I have found for me personally to learn fast and retain the knowledge. Also, I just wanted to say Thank you to whoever made NotesTeacher because they obviously made it due to their love of music and wanting to help others. It is free and I have not had ANY ADS! That is amazing! I am absolutely IN LOVE with NotesTeacher and will continue to use it until I learn everything I can possibly learn. There are not many people out there who will make apps just to help people, that are completely free & absolutely no ads. So to my hero, Thank You!!

Great Tool for a Beginning Sight Reader

I’m currently learning to sight read with no formal training or lessons. I found that this application is not only very helpful at learning the notes on the various clefs, but also challenges you through game lessons to recall the notes your learning. You’re tested in a fun and enjoyable way. It’s easy to look up the notes online or in a book, however, unless you dedicate yourself to studying them, then it’s easy to not put in the time required to really learn them. NotesTeacher starts off at the very beginning with just 2 notes. Once you’ve completed the lesson, you’ll unlock a new lesson that adds a new note. I’ve purchased the full version since I feel that NotesTeacher can really help learn to sight read notes. The full version unlocks higher difficulties which can really test your skills.

Excellent concept.

Uses a format similar to angry birds and cut the rope in that it has multiple levels and each level reward you with a clearance of one two or three stars. You can go back and replay each level to try and better your score. It has difficulty levels ranging from very easy to very hard. It allows you to select trouble clef or bass clef or both. And many other features. My favorite feature is that it allows you to use the microphone on your device to play the notes on your piano or just about any other instrument that as well tuned. The accuracy when playing a live instrument through the microphone is pretty darn good. If you play too fast, it won’t recognize occasionally and makes an error, which kind of stinks because one aspect is that the challenge level is timed. So you are encouraged to go as fast as you can, but NotesTeacher can only allow you to go so fast. Would be great if they could continue to fine-tune the accuracy for speed

Thank you so much!

I’ve been struggling in band all year, and it’s just because of sheet music. I finally decided I was gonna try something to help. I found NotesTeacher and gave it a shot. I loved the simplicity, and it’s not too overwhelming. I’ve only been using NotesTeacher two days, but I’ve significantly improved. I would totally recommend Notes teacher to anyone, even non musicians. I’ve only seen two things so far that would make the experience better.
• a way to type in your note goals
• some songs! I know that is difficult, I totally understand. But maybe just some Christmas songs, or nursery rhymes? Like silent night or Mary had a little lamb? It doesn’t have to be anything fancy.
Anyways, these are a few things I think we would all like! Thanks for sticking with me! Bye!

Great app!

I have just begun to use NotesTeacher to learn the names of notes. I like the approach as it goes through adding a note at a time with audio feedback for the note sounds as well. The only thing I would suggest to add to NotesTeacher is the ability to start slow when a note is first introduced and increase speed as the learner becomes more successful with the note that is added. One other thing I specifically do like too is how the addition of each note alternates between treble and clef allowing your learning to be more global not specific to the line. I am learning to play the harp and this is important to the harp player. Great app with a lot of evident positive development an thought into it.

Great app!

Easy and fun to use. No problems with app itself. It works all the time like it’s supposed to. (Some apps don’t). Progressively increase your abilities as you go so you are learning but not overwhelmed. Challenged but not too much so it’s always fun. Something you can do in the checkout line at the grocery store while you wait your turn. I have been using NotesTeacher often for several months now and I’m getting better and more comfortable reading music everyday. Thanks guys for such a useful app at a price everyone can afford :) I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to learn to read music or increase their skill level for those of us trying to get a bit better at it.

Just what I needed

I’m learning guitar after many years of just fooling around, I decided I wanted to be able to transcribe music instead of always relying on ear. Time to learn how to read music! I just wasn’t getting it and now I feel much better about the task after spending just a hour with this program. Forget FACE and “Every Good Boy...” this is a practical way to build sight memory, which is what I need. It reminds me of learning how to type. There’s no substitute for rote exercise, but this program is not boring it mixes it up so repeat lessons are never the same. I appreciate that. It would be boring if it were like scales or doing written lessons over and over. Great program, thanks!

Pretty dam awesome

Im a freshmen in Highschool, and I play in my schools band as a percussionist. In fear of being left behind buy my peers that can sight read notes better then I can, I decided I should try to teach my self how to read quicker and and more efficiently. I needed something casual that i could easily get on to when i had time and practice a bit. This is perfect with the “awkward amount of time” guy that I am. Its easy to get on and just practice. Its simple to understand and because I went into it already knowing a bit about music, I could easily catch up to wear i needed to be and needed to be practicing at. This is honestly helping me with my naming and the timer is pressuring me to read faster, witch I needed

Best way to practice and learn without an instrument

I was trying to look for a way to practice learning notes on a staff and this is the perfect way to do it. It has helped a lot when I sit to practice the piano and I am note spending so much time just trying to figure out what note it is. I think it would be better if you can somehow play the notes as they would appear on your instrument. So if your intent is to learn it for the piano than display an octave so that I can visually see what key corresponds to what note I am playing. This way I am learning the staff and keys at the same time. Either way I use NotesTeacher everyday whenever I have a moment and I can practice.

Best app for sight reading exercise

What I love about NotesTeacher is the ability to customize almost everything in order to target your sight reading practice.

You can choose to practice only treble clef, or bass clef or both.
You can choose only high notes above the treble pentagram, or low notes below the bass pentagram.
You can choose different difficulty levels, or free practice.
You can choose intelligent mode which automatically targets the notes that are more difficult for you, and helps you practice them more.
Also the piano sound is really nice and realistic. Many sight reading apps use a synthetic sound that can become annoying very quickly.
You can use the built in keyboard or your own instrument using the mic.
...and other good stuff.

Any bugs that I have seen mentioned in other reviews have been fixed, apparently, because I don’t have any problems with my paid version of NotesTeacher.

I took an excellent online sight reading course in Udemy, and now I use NotesTeacher exclusively to practice what I learned. I’m glad I purchased NotesTeacher.

Finally learning to sight read!

I took piano lessons for 10 years as a kid, starting at age 5. I had a great teacher and her lessons included music theory and note reading, but I never was able to learn to sight read, I always had to use the mnemonic devices to figure out the notes and then write them on my sheet music. NotesTeacher is great, it teaches you one note at a time and even lets me play it on my piano to respond! It’s way more affordable than the other piano apps I’ve tried. After one day I already learned notes A through G around middle C. Finally after all these years I’m learning to sight read! 😄

Best for sight reading!

Honestly, if you are not a great sight reader, this is NotesTeacher to get. And at only $1.99 for premium, it is a no brainer! It is highly customizable. You can lean the notes in lessons for either staff you choose and then practice those notes with a timer free mode so it goes on and on. You can customize what notes you want to practice so if you only want to focus on a few notes until you master them, you can do that. It even has a midi you can connect so you can play from your piano or just use the apps microphone if no midi. It is a truly wonderful and simple app!

Awesome, effective, and simple!

Need I say more? What’s best is that you don’t have to pay or have an internet connection at all times. Been trying to learn for years and this makes it easy and fun (start on the grand staff!). NotesTeacher is real clean looking and very easy to navigate.. the fun is in the fact that you are timed to effectively train your ability to recognize what you’re learning and creates a fun sense of urgency not present in other apps. Just a well created app from start to finish for any musician looking to download music apps to their phone.. definitely made it to my first page of apps along with Shazam and voice memos and co.

Great App!

I just started taking piano lessons and learning to read music. I am so happy I found NotesTeacher. After using the free version for 5 minutes I knew this was the perfect app to supplement my lessons so I paid for the premium version. I use it all the time. It is extremely convenient to get on it and go through several lessons in just a few minutes. My ability to read notes has improved significantly in just a few days of using it. If you are learning to read music, get NotesTeacher . You will not be disappointed.

Great app!

I was having trouble getting my daughter to read notes on the piano. She was very unmotivated and not making much progress for about 3 months.

We switched to NotesTeacher and I saw an immediate improvement progress-wise and also her motivation to practice her notes. It's only been about two weeks and she already has learned most of her notes so overall I'm happy. It's also very economical.

The only things I would add is the introduction of 8th notes and 16th notes as well as having NotesTeacher show proper fingering. Other than that it's perfect.

One of the best $1.99 purchases I’ve ever made!

I haven’t been playing my keyboard for a while and have been looking to get back into it. NotesTeacher pretty much just inspired me to get back to practicing my everyday and that’s easy with its daily reminders. Just after playing the free for 15 minutes I couldn’t help but buy the full version even though the free one had a LOT of lessons. For anyone looking to learn piano notes, this is NotesTeacher for you! One thing I do wish it had was a streak counter to keep you even more motivated everyday like the language learning app Duolingo does. Other than that, 5 stars!

Great great app!!

When I was younger I played a lot of rhythm based games (ddr, rock band, guitar hero) so I knew I could learn to sight read if there was just some type of interactive learning that started you off easy and moved along with you while providing some sort of feedback. NotesTeacher does just that. I would have easily paid over 20 dollars for this type of interactive learning so the 1.99 is criminal bargain. I am not the type that writes reviews but this really deserved it, great job! I am still in the early stages of learning and but I am really hammering down information. I will update this review as I go through NotesTeacher .

Great app for music teachers!

Found NotesTeacher by accident and it’s the best thing that has happened for my students. The gamification as-eco of learning notes makes it super interactive and makes learning notes less of a chore.
The only modification I would have is to have a student portal. I have 15 piano students and could definitely use their own statistics to target their weaknesses. I’ve just been having them go through the levels to achieve stars but it would be more beneficial to have their own. Just a thought!

Amazing help with note memorization

I love NotesTeacher so far! It is simple and easy to use and combines the sounds with the sight of the note. I love that it does only a few at a time and then adds them on so it’s not too overwhelming.
One suggestion I have for the creator (if possible) it would be so nice if the organization of the sets changed every so often. Sometimes I’ll be stuck on a particularly difficult one for me, and then I’m afraid that I’m more memorizing the organization of the collection of notes than what each individual note looks like. I think switching the order of them would help with this😊
Thanks so much for the wonderful app!
