So after seeing the hype for PennStationSubs in my local shop I decided to download it for the rewards. Unfortunately I failed to read the reviews first. My fault. But PennStationSubs is a true waste of storage space. No online ordering (although the website says it's being worked on...), the cashiers have no idea how to use it and I've been told "you don't have to use PennStationSubs " or things of that nature by the fine folks working the register who have no clue what it's about and just want to move on to the next customer. PennStationSubs supposedly generates a unique barcode for each use but it rarely stays up long enough to wait through the line and then crashes before generating a new one so you back up the line trying to get it to work. Maybe frustration is the key here. If so, job well done. I've accumulated zero points after multiple visits. Oh, and I never got the "free 6 inch sub" for signing up as is advertised. PennStationSubs should seriously be pulled off the store until it works and employees are trained on it.
Penn Station App ranks truly at the bottom of the pile

I have to concur with the opinions of the other users. I have been a firm believer in the Jimmy Johns, which works superbly. I have tried to use PennStationSubs over a couple of months now. First, over several weeks, I wanted to order a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich. Everything that I tried to order the Philly Cheesesteak with everything usual, PennStationSubs said that this was an invalid order. I quit trying. More recently, within the past week, I tried to order using PennStationSubs . PennStationSubs kept hanging and would not proceed towards ordering. One last issue. PennStationSubs keeps your credit card information on file. In comparison to the Jimmy John‘s app, you must use a credit card. There is no option to pay when you show up at the store. My advice to other potential users. Don‘t even bother to download it. It‘s worthless. Unless corporate responds, I will just go back to ordering from Jimmy Johns, although I prefer the taste of the Penn Station Cheese steak sandwich.
The App is Useless

As many people noted, PennStationSubs is utterly useless. I just pulled up to the Penn Station in Elkview WV. I’m literally parked, sitting here, right now, with my dog, directly in front of the front door. I noticed they’ve got a long line, and I saw the sign advertising PennStationSubs , and the free sub, so I thought I’d download PennStationSubs , place my order and be able to sit here and chill with my dog, and then go get the order when it’s ready. Instead of standing in line forever while my dog is by herself. Great idea, but NOT TODAY. PennStationSubs is so slow, it gets stuck constantly and after I placed my order, it just froze up, so I tried to place the order AGAIN, but it did the same thing. So, I called the store and asked if they had my order and they said they’re not showing any orders placed. The guy asked if I just wanted to place my order with him? Well, no, but I guess I have no choice. So, I’ll definitely be deleting this useless app from my iPhone.
So much left to be desired

I rarely leave negative reviews for apps, but felt one was warranted for Penn Station’s. Though I love the food, PennStationSubs is far and away the worst one I have on my phone. I’ve had PennStationSubs for about three years, and was hopeful when the UI was updated a few months back. While the updates did make PennStationSubs look better, the functionality is still—put nicely—unusable. Whenever I try to place an order, I get spammed with error messages. When navigating to different pages, I’m frequently met by a notification to sign in again; this is super inconvenient when I want to scan for rewards when I’m picking up an order. Additionally, it seems that, as a result of the aforementioned updates, I lost all my loyalty points for previous orders. Penn Station’s mobile app seems to be years behind those of other restaurants and retailers.
I am so disappointed with the update of PennStationSubs. Before I update it I was one sandwich away from getting a free sandwich and after the update it wiped out all my sandwiches and points. It is like I did not buy anything from them for the last couple of months. I am a regular at Penn station so much that when I come in they know what I want without me even ordering it. After this update I am seriously considering not buying anymore because it wiped out everything and that is so heartbreaking. After contacting PennStationSubs support they did not care about what PennStationSubs did. So I am still at ground Zero. In the future they should consider the hard work that people put into it because that is a lot of money that was spent to get to that point. Obviously they do not care about how my money is spent so I think I am done with Penn Station.
Horrible design

UPDATE: tried to give it another chance. This time around got order in card and developed an error while trying to check out. In addition, will not save my credit card info. States that one of the fields is incorrect. Everything filled out correctly. Once again FAIL.
PennStationSubs is completely company centric and not customer centric. The ordering process forces you to select sandwiches then asked if you want fries drinks etc. when placing ordered for multiple people this is a ridiculous exercise in back and forth between people to complete the order. You also cannot add items to a sandwich that they don’t deem appropriate to add. If it’s not paired in the “normal options” forget it. Save yourself a headache and order jimmy johns if you like online ordering. If you love penn station, go into the store to order.
Huge hassle!

The only thing PennStationSubs is good for is scanning the barcode to earn rewards. Online ordering does not work and guess what. When you do order online(from a web browser,) you don’t get to “skip the line” because you have to wait to get a cup for your drink. Pointless. But I do give Penn Station props because I e-mailed someone and they added all the rewards that PennStationSubs didn’t give me. So, I encourage everybody who dislikes PennStationSubs to click the info tab at the bottom, then “contact us,” then “app support,” and they might give you a free fresh cut. I seriously doubt PennStationSubs is going to improve much going forward. They need tp start from scratch instead of trying to fix the current app. A 10 year old could write them an app in less than a week that would work twice as well!
App Does Not Work

I’ve had numerous issues with PennStationSubs . 1) It seems to not know that I am logged in, even when my settings page is showing that I’m logged in. after clicking on the “repeat order” button, I get a string of error messages saying I’m not logged in. I’ve ordered from the website with no issue. 2) Started a new order, and added a sub with a 6 character name. When looking at the final order screen, it cut down the name to 5 characters. This repeated multiple times. Needs an explanation for character limit on input if nothing else. 3) the recommendation page suggested fries to me, even after I had added fries to my order. Not a very intuitive process. 4) when my order was final, I went to add my payment information. After I hit submit, there was an error message that said payment needed to be entered. Then PennStationSubs hard-crashed instead of letting me edit the payment info. After that crash I just gave up. If PennStationSubs won’t even let me order a sub, that feels like a failure of intended function. Still feels like early days with PennStationSubs , team still has a long way to go on it.
This app does NOT WORK

I have had a few good experiences in the year I have had PennStationSubs. It never works. Since waiting for sandwiches to be made takes so long having the ability to order ahead was handy. I have updated with 0 success in it working. I have tried to use it at least 10 times in 1 month and it still does not work. The store I frequent hates it bc all they hear are people complaining but they have no control or remedy. This is the most frustrating app I have ever used and I use a lot to order ahead. Penn Station should just delete PennStationSubs and start over. Maybe call Starbucks or Chick Fil A.... their app is easy to use and works!
I’ve had PennStationSubs for over a year and have been experiencing issues with it since day one. If an order actually goes through, it’s a very rare occurrence. Most of the time when I try to order, an “Invalid Request” error message pops up. After every update I hope it will get better but it seems to stay the same or get worse. I’ve never written a review for an app but the fact that there doesn’t seem to be any improvement over such a large span of time I couldn’t help myself. Now I see that I’m not the only one experiencing issues. Sad to see as I would refer a lot of friends if it were reliable.

Downloaded app to order on way to restaurant. 20 minutes later still trying to pay for order but couldn’t do it before I was at the cash register. I just placed my order normally at the counter. The problem was with entering payment info. I have never experienced such a laborious process that locks up half way thru repeatedly. Each time it saved the items in the cart but it went back to the beginning of the data entry. The keyboard function would not register input. None of the convenience features of the iPhone worked. Whatever bug fix was just released missed the mark by a wide margin. The sandwich rated a 4 Star BTW.
Can’t sign into app

Not only can’t I sign in to accumulate my rewards, deleting PennStationSubs and reinstalling doesn’t help. Another problem I’ve encountered, when I go to sign in and it doesn’t work, it asks if I want to change my password. So I put in my email address and it won’t allow me to change my password. I’m upset since I buy Penn Station twice a week and I’ve loss all those rewards over the past month. If you fix PennStationSubs, please add a field where you can request different ingredients. I like to add lettuce and tomato to my sub but you can’t do it online or on PennStationSubs . Just my suggestion. If PennStationSubs can’t be fixed Jersey Mikes is my alternative.

I have used PennStationSubs frequently, but there have been times that a cashier tells me I can scan anytime and other cashiers that tell me to scan at a certain transaction point. Surprise! Usually, when a cashier tells me to scan whenever is when my activity doesn't get logged. PennStationSubs is spotty at best and possibly needs more implementation training for stores. Then again, when you spend an inordinate amount of money to get a 6" sub as the reward it isn't very motivating. I would say the best part of PennStationSubs are the occasional freebies like fries or cookies that you receive.
Just okay.

Per the version history, a week ago online ordering was updated. I couldn’t find a location that I could click on to online order. The ease of functionality could be better. Just to see the menu I had to click through a couple different options instead of it being an option on the start screen.
I was initially put off by of the negative reviews of PennStationSubs. I’ve ordered through their website before (no major problems), but just downloaded PennStationSubs today... I must say, it worked flawlessly for me! It let me use my rewards points for a free fry, didn’t give me any error messages, let me see the current month’s specials... etc.
I’m not sure why other people seem to have such problems with PennStationSubs. I don’t normally write reviews, but I felt I should defend PennStationSubs’s horrible reputation. Thanks PS, I’ll continue to be a loyal customer! :)
