About Sorcery 2

From legendary designer Steve Jackson, co-founder of Lionhead Studios (with Peter Molyneux), and Fighting Fantasy and Games Workshop (with Ian Livingstone), and designed and adapted by inkle, the app uses inklewriter technology to tell your journey in real-time, shaping the story around your choices.

Visit the Festival of Thieves, battle a ghost, escape from slavers, gamble your fortune at the Halls of Vlada, drink at the tavern, worship strange Gods, and much much more.

Featuring original illustrations by John Blanche and maps by Mike Schley (Wizards of the Coast).

An epic adventure in a city of thieves, traps, and magic.

In combat, the action is described on the fly based on how you play.

"Kharé: Cityport of Traps" is Part 2 of 4.

Part 1 is out now and Part 3, "The Seven Serpents", is coming later this year.

The text itself changes based on how you play and what you do.

Kharé is brimming with things to do and creatures to meet.

Awesome.

I thought the first chapter was kind of short (finished in a day), but this one kept me entertained for at least a week. There's a specific objective in this one which is more challenging than the straight-forward journey of the first chapter, and this one also introduces a neat mini game that will keep you occupied for a while

Major step backwards from the first installment

In the first installment, I felt as though I was really choosing my own adventure — there were so many things I knew I was missing as I blundered my way through which really made the game feel magical and unique, and made me want to replay it to see what I’d missed. In this one, you have to wander aimlessly through a city, covering every inching and getting thrown backwards or killed at any “wrong” step. You’re forced to collect 4 spell lines, ensuring that you experience the exact same things every time. I felt as though I was being railroaded by a storyteller who insisted on me playing through one particular story. What’s the point of a “choose your adventure” that forces you to choose the one right path?

Illogical, awkward, and too linear

Based on the great reviews I read, I was really excited to play this game. However, after about 5 hours of playing, I’m perplexed why people rate this game so highly. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to the consequences of your actions (sometimes you make a seemingly logical choice and you die; others times you pick something whimsical and get rewarded with treasure). The spell book mechanics are awkward, forcing you to flip back and forth between menus to try to figure out which spell might help in a given situation. And the storyline is a bit too linear for my taste, not allowing you to go back and explore areas you have previously been too. Thank god I bought this game a couple years after it’s release, so I only wasted $5 on it. Avoid at all costs.

DA BEST

It's the best game ever especially the gambling building and I know a way to never lose any tokens all you have to do is rewind a little bit whenever you lose and you never even lost! I would recommend this game to anyone.

Fantastic

One of the few mobile adventure games I've played and couldn't put down. Rich lore, strong writing, and some smart elements of game design make for one amazing ride. Highly recommended.

Can't put it down

This is my first game of the Sorcery series and it was brilliant, creative, and addicting. Going to download the first now, and then all of them.

Liar dice

I can’t stand this game. I’m stuck with the old man in prison. Why is the old man so good at this. He doesn’t guess wrong. Also the text color is almost the same as the paper color. So I can’t even read wth the game is trying to tell me Weird mini game i hate it

Why can’t I cast dum on the old man in prison? And just beat him a few times and move on?

The Best!!!

I don't usually do reviews, however, this story is by far the best game driven read out there! For a phone anyways!!

Worst of all the Sorcery games

Sorcery 1, 3, and 4 are all great and enjoyable games and stories but this has got to be the worst of them. It's just plain bad. It punishes any form of exploration and wastes your time over and over again.

My Top Favorite Game

I am a magick fan and strategy lover. Not to mention when you give me a game that is good and well made. It will be an instant legend and always be played.

More than likely you could play this game ten times over and not see the same thing twice. It’s a very thought immersing, sophisticated, well put together and designed strategy game.

The story, characters, lore, the items even are memorable, and the places you have traveled definitely will give you either fond memories or bad memories.

Those memories and feelings can change quickly for one event that was previously not explored, or even a spell, or a different conversation can and will result in different reactions.

I have so far, gotten through Sorcery One and half through Sorcery two, I did try Sorcery three and stopped to finish the second. I can’t wait to finish them all and play again.

You do not need thought provoking applications or memories and brain enhancing apps. Strategy, euphoria, thinking five, six and sometimes well ahead, while being mindful to a common person and just as cautious with what appears benign, but being open to take risks progress you in so many facets and ways in your mind and the game.

It is in many senses, almost a game that can be utilized as a very seldom life experience for real life. Always be careful in all situations but live your life and have fun always while listening to all your senses and feelings.

Your mind is the present, logic, and memories or reason. Your heart is what guides you and the present moment to always be aware of and follow. Your gut is instinct and the future.

Always remember that and it will be understood in time to know if your heart and mind are being tricked by something you can’t see if your gut is telling you no. Or if your gut says yes and your heart is weary is only telling you to proceed guarded but with courage. Always rationalize and never listen to anything but your internal voice. If it doesn’t feel right. It’s not.

I guess I’ve been playing this game too much. Well. Back to it. Thank you!!!!

Perfect!!!

This game actually has exceeded my standards because of many different reason. First of all I couldn't stop playing this game, and was very surprised about this, as I have never before played any type of game where you make your own choices this much, and I also have never read any of these types of books... I bought the second game, because I thought, why not buy the one that looks like it has better graphics... When I played for about an hour, I really started getting into it, and really liked the very nice pictures that accompany a lot of text... After I have actually now finished it, but am sure have not gone to all the places and watched all outcomes of conversations, etc. I regret not buying the first one and trying it out instead so I can go on with the story, but I can actually agree that this game is better than a lot of others these days, and I really did not mind reading the whole entire story as it was very intriguing. Overall, a great game, but you would have to figure out for yourself why it is so. The only thing that I kinda thought was a bit of cheating is that the game is $5, whilst I think it should maybe be a bit lower...

Wonderful evolution of interactive fiction!

As a long time lover of both exploring puzzle adventures (i.e. Myst, Riven, The Room, Drawn: the Painted Tower) and Interactive Fiction (IF) (Infocom's Zork and the Frotz' IF engine), I have struggled to find worthy contenders that have made the transition to the mobile app store (feel free to make suggestions!). Inkle has done an excellent job bringing Jackson's Fighting Fantasy books to the new millennium and the mobile app store. Sorcery 2 is even more immersive and 'classic IF' than it's predecessor, placing you in a more non-linear environment that requires you to wander around much more to solve the puzzles and reach your objectives. The many sub plots and side stories (which culminate in a climactic twistable ending) contribute to a greater immersive experience and preserves the feel and culture of IF but makes it fresh and vibrant once again.

If you love any of the games I've mentioned above, then you won't be disappointed with Inkle's work with Steve Jackson's Sorcery 2 (or 1 or 3 for that matter)

No reviews?

For some reason the iStore showed that no reviews were received for this game. So, for an altruistic act I felt obligated to add my own experience of this amazing adventure. However, it seems I was not the first, and so my great effort is not required. I will no longer need to comment on the outstanding and memorable art work provided throughout the story, or the rich compliments of mini-games (swindlerdice or whatever the dice game was called), the small but appreciated map details and movement sequences, and finally, it is quite disappointing that I couldn't share my gratitude for such an intriguing and exciting storyline through both part 1 and part 2.
And so, my voice will be unheard, and people may still continue to skip the $4.99 price and move on to a more immediate pleasure ($9.98 for both parts)
If I were to wish anything more, it would be for a successful completion of the last two parts(3&4), and for a more forgiving price.

An memorable trek through a unique city

Saying that Sorcery is an adaptation of a gamebook would be barely scratching the surface. It's a book, it's an RPG, it's an adventure game. Above all, this episode is an exploration of a vast city filled with memorable characters and locations, with countless adventures to have, secrets to uncover and traps to avoid.

This episode has all the features that made the first one great, and addresses some of its shortcomings. Those who found the first one too short and easy will have much more of a challenge this time - and might be tempted to go back to part 1 to prepare better. And those who've already gone through the books will find the city subtly changed (and more than a little expanded) from what they remember.

Sorcery 2 is a magnificent game with tons of charm, polish and replay value, and I can't recommend it enough.

A spectacular game!!!

I rarely find a game that won't lose my interest after playing it for a little while. However, when I played this game I played it non-stop until I completed it (both chapters). Even my little sister who has never been too great at reading and has always completely hated it has been playing this so much that she probably has no clue how much she's read. Even the art was spectacular from the map to the accession all picture hidden through the story giving a view of what your character was seeing. It was wonderful to see what was described in the story on the map. This is one of my absolute favorite apps and I can not see a time when it will ever leave my home screen. I am anxiously waiting for the next chapter of the story to be released.
