Nifty lil app

I saw a buddy from Facebook posted this and so I downloaded it as well.
I received a call from the city of Minneapolis about the snow emergency but I forgot what side to park on, so I busted out my phone and checked MinneapolisSnowEmergency and come morning my car was still their. Thanks to all that made MinneapolisSnowEmergency:)

Thanks City of Minneapolis!

Some reviewers expect way too much out of a version 1.0 app. Yeah, it might lack notifications but Mpls does a fantastic job getting the word out in so many different ways already - the city has SMS and email alerts for snow emergencies, so yes you can live without a TV or radio, and still get direct, automated alerts if you want to. The description clearly states it lacks alerts, but fails to indicate if there are future plans to add this (which, admittedly, would be nice), which one could only hope. So lighten up, at least our City cares enough to try to reach out in so many different ways even though their app could use some work.

Looking for a spot (where you are not!)

There is a significant flaw in the updated version of MinneapolisSnowEmergency. More often then not, I will look for a parking spot prior to leaving my current location. Meaning I need to look for a parking spot in a location that is different from my own as provided by gps. The new version of this map makes this nearly impossible, constantly dragging you back to your current location and not letting you look at other areas of the map. This promotes unsafe driving as I have to look at the map while driving...

Hope this can be addressed, because this map is very helpful when functional.

Poorly executed. No different than website.

I couldn't get the MPLS snow emergency website map to load properly on my phone (safari) so I downloaded this hoping that an app built specifically for iphone would offer a solution.
I got an "app" that links directly to the site anyway, offering the same sporadic loading of the map with the additional frustration of awful navigational controls.
Also, for the past few hours I've received a "server not found-try again later" error, which makes the whole thing moot anyway.
I love the city's texting alerts-but living and navigating downtown during a snow emergency goes beyond the normal "odd/even" rules of thumb and a proper map at the ready would be great.

Updated app is useless

There wasn’t much to the old app, but at least you could view if there was a snow emergency in effect and see the parking rules for each day of the snow emergency. The updated app is essentially useless.

The new map displays only your current location, does not allow you to pan/zoom/scroll, and only displays the first day of the snow emergency. The Facebook and Twitter buttons take you to the correct webpages, but they are not optimized for mobile, so also essentially useless. The call hotline button seems to be the only button that actually works correctly. Every other button on MinneapolisSnowEmergency homepage goes to a bad link on the City website.

Winter Parking Restrictions

MinneapolisSnowEmergency NEEDS an option to view where you can park during the Winter Parking Restrictions, I parked where it was my understanding you could park (odd side of a non-snow emergency street) and was towed and ticketed for parking in a no parking zone, the rules are so confusing and MinneapolisSnowEmergency that is supposed to help is completely useless until the Winter Parking Restrictions are lifted I mean we could potentially be having to try and figure this out for the next 3 weeks and like the Snow Emergency Rules just reading the rules doesn’t really help understand them as easily as pairing it with a map.

Seems pretty bare bones. Needs notifications.

I think apps like these are what makes smart phones and tablets shine. However, I didn't notice any settings for notifications. Yes, you can follow the link to the cities website but notifications when a snow emergency is declared would put MinneapolisSnowEmergency in a much better position.

Get that taken care of and I can easily do 5 stars!

Awesome

MinneapolisSnowEmergency is very useful! Works every time and the text alerts are fantastic. This makes it easy to avoid getting your car towed and save $$$! The typing in address feature and the map by day features make this complex snow emergency protocol easy to navigate.

By

Great!! Easy to use!! Very useful

This is a great app. I haven't experience any issues or glitches. Everything is tip top shape. Saves me the time to search or hear the news if there is a snow emergency delcare or not. Thanks guys for creating a useful app. Can life get any easier!

Website better than app

Downloaded MinneapolisSnowEmergency today and tried using the parking map to confirm where I can/can't park on snow emergency days. Buttons are non-functioning and navigation is limited. At most it allows me to use my current location but no red/green street shading appears and pressing the Day # buttons does nothing. Since MinneapolisSnowEmergency doesn't function as well as the website, I'll just revert back to that and delete MinneapolisSnowEmergency .

Great App

MinneapolisSnowEmergency works perfectly fine. I’m new in town and this has made me understand the rules. Thanks!!

Is it Day 2 or Day 3?

I like MinneapolisSnowEmergency, except the area stating the day of the emergency is partially covered. You can only see the very top of the line, which makes it impossible to tell if the number is 2 or 3. Believe me, it is crucial to know if you have to park on the street! Please fix!

By

Just okay, lots of good info on it at least

Functionality is all good except the snow emergency day is cut off on the home page where it says what day is in effect in red text so it’s hard to see what day we’re on. Also the alert system only alerts me of the first day via text and not on subsequent days which caused me to get a parking ticket.

Broken...

How do you go from an app that worked just fine to completely screwing it up?Did you (the developers) do any functionality testing? It’s impossible to drag the map and look up the parking rules in the location that I am going to because it constantly drags me back to my actual location... Please fix and for god sakes use it before you release it!

Useless

MinneapolisSnowEmergency is pretty useless. Why would I use an app that is going to just pointless back to the website? It needs to tell you if a snow emergency has been declared, what day of the snow emergency it currently is, and then list the parking rules. Push notifications would be great, but even just having he I formation available on MinneapolisSnowEmergency without the notifications would be helpful.

Buggy, but helpful

Very helpful to have the maps, information, and status.

However, MinneapolisSnowEmergency is quite buggy. Hitting back often gives me a blank white screen on my iPhone 6, latest OS.

Just go back to the old one

This last update made a bare bones but functional app turn into a website from the early 2000’s. The map MIGHT load on your 3rd try, and if you wanted scroll around the map to find a street the good luck, the map pulls you back to your location and if you fight it then MinneapolisSnowEmergency will force close..

The button are obnoxiously big and useless. And selecting what day to show doesn’t register when you press it.

I’m on my WiFi (500mbps) and it acts like I have half a bar of signal.

Yes MinneapolisSnowEmergency needed an update, but this is 5 steps in the wrong direction. Just bring back the old version, at least it worked.

HORRIBLE, CRAPPY APP

MinneapolisSnowEmergency could have been SO MUCH better. It doesn't even tell you if there's a Snow Emergency in effect!!!

Here's how to earn a 5-star rating:
--Push Notifications for when a Snow Emergency is in effect.
--Allow MinneapolisSnowEmergency the show the user the current status and day # of the Snow Emergrncy.
--GPS-enabled mapping of your current location's parking status. (This is so simple and obvious, I'm astounded it's not included. It's as if the person who came up with this has never used a smartphone.)
--An interface that doesn't look like it was designed in the late-90s.

MinneapolisSnowEmergency in its current form is nothing more than a bookmark to the website. Utterly pointless.

By

Needs push notifications

While this is a great app for knowing when there are snow emergency days, you shouldn't have to just regularly check for snow emergency days. One solution to MinneapolisSnowEmergency: Push notifications for when there are snow emergency days.

Parking Rules Map is terrible

Keeps jumping to my current location! I’m trying to see the rules for where I live, but I can’t because it will jump to current location (my work). If the point of MinneapolisSnowEmergency is to be able to see what side to park on for different locations, then MinneapolisSnowEmergency does not work at all. NOT user friendly.

By

Great idea but abandoned?

MinneapolisSnowEmergency was great when it was released. But the city of Minneapolis hasn’t updated it in two years. I don’t know if I can trust it any more. It looks antiquated, as the screen resolution is designed for much older devices.

If they’d take the time to update MinneapolisSnowEmergency, I would continue to use it.

By

Redesign

So MinneapolisSnowEmergency is super useful but why does the update mean MinneapolisSnowEmergency always zooms to your current location. If I park away from my house and want to check it out, I can’t, it keeps zooming into where I am every time. Outside of that MinneapolisSnowEmergency is a nice redesign.

By

Still problematic

I just open the new and improved application for Minneapolis snow emergencies. The links are broken for snow rules and for FAQs. You would think that they would make these functional on their new application but, not so much.

By

Buttons don’t work

MinneapolisSnowEmergency is 100% non-functional, like most of MN’s government services. Needs to be overhauled. And please add push notifications so people know a snow emergency has been declared. St. Paul’s app works fine - maybe check out theirs and imitate. MinneapolisSnowEmergency doesn’t require really cutting edge tech - a functional map, basically. Not too much to ask, Minneapolis. Get it together.

By

Poor.

The interactive map doesn’t work, which is really the only reason to use MinneapolisSnowEmergency. If you click on parking rules (easily found on their website or with a quick google search) you only find a broken link. Complete waste of time to download.

A Rear Wheel App with Bald Tires

Try as hard as you want the map will stick in one place. Controls that are in responsive regardless of hard or soft touch. Maybe the battery is froze?

Guess we have to get out and flag some strangers to swipes us out of here.

On the plus side somebody found a use for a snow flake graphic from their first MySpace account.
