Question for the developers

I really like the idea of QuakeAlertUSA, and I have seen the positive reviews from the early access users. I have been waiting for QuakeAlertUSA since you guys first announced the development of it and now that I have my hands on it I have been waiting to test it. With this recent 4.6 I was a little disappointed. I felt the earthquake and it actually startled me and I realized that QuakeAlertUSA did not even warn me. Settings and location are fine so I don’t understand why that happened. Hoping for an explanation from you guys, maybe I didn’t set something up right. Putting 4 stars because the idea of QuakeAlertUSA and the potential of it. Thanks!

App keeps crashing but good app

I recently installed QuakeAlertUSA today and my first impressions were not that really good because it would crash sometimes. But on the other hand, my other impressions were the simulation of the QuakeAlert and the maps and quake occurrences by list. So if you can fix the crashes on QuakeAlertUSA , it would be splendid. If your looking for a QuakeAlert app, this is recommended, but I will give you a advice, it will crash sometimes. I’m giving it a 4.5/5. And it will be useful since I’m a Junior High Student

It worked!

I got an alert from the quake in Pacoima last night, telling me shaking would start in 5 seconds! So cool that this worked. (I did not get an alert from my other more local earthquake app, so this one came out ahead.)

I only wish I could set QuakeAlertUSA to break through my Do Not Disturb and Silence/Vibrate settings. But I think that’s Apple who hasn’t provided that option, I don’t think there’s anything QuakeAlertUSA developers could do about it.

No alerts yet thank goodness but good app

A suggestion - can you add two features:

- Notifications of quakes around me that are smaller than 3.0. I keep an eye out for swarms and this would be a nice feature for geeks like me. It’s not the urgent alert mind you - just a notification that appears on the Lock Screen similar to a new email

- Fault line maps - an option to switch to a map that shows the major fault lines (eg San Andreas, Newport Inglewood)

Amazing App

If you’re downloading QuakeAlertUSA in 2020, don’t worry about the review saying it doesn’t work or they’re having problems. QuakeAlertUSA is now available to the public. All you have to do is download, sign up with your email and choose what magnitude & up you want to be notified at. There was a 3.6 earthquake last night in granada hills and QuakeAlertUSA alerted me. I’m very pleased with app and recommend all to download! Literally a lifesaving app!

Life saving Quake App.

So glad someone FINALLY brought this technology to the masses—-for free! This is not your average quake app with tons of annoying alerts, this one is meant to save your life. In the event of a quake, it alerts you ahead of time before the shaking starts. This gives you valuable seconds to get in a safe place and prepare. Highly recommend QuakeAlertUSA for you and all your loved ones.

App seems abandoned

I tried to set up to get alerts which I originally did a couple years ago before it was “ready”. When I tried to set up for alerts again on QuakeAlertUSA it says “contact support.” When you try to get app support the web site does not respond. I tried to set up the email again but when you click it the screen shows a place to type the email but it is frozen and the screen doesn’t respond to touch at all. I have an iPhone 11 so it should work since it’s the latest phone. Great idea, especially here in California but unfortunately it’s worthless if you can’t set it up to work.

Battery Killer

QuakeAlertUSA hasn’t alerted me to any earthquakes because (thankfully) it hasn’t needed to.

That said, it seems to have been killing my battery. I used to get through a day of normal use with ~50% battery life by the time I get home. After installing, my battery life started getting worse and worse, with me being a 54% by 10:45 am today. That was about three hours after being fully charged. Battery stats said that Quake Alert has been the highest battery usage even though I didn’t open it today. It was about an hour of Background Activity.

I deleted it, recharged my phone back to 100% and now after 7 hours, I’m only at 84% battery.

Getting alerts can definitely be a lifesaver. So can having a phone with a charged battery. For the time being, I’m picking the latter.

Love the concept but location is off

QuakeAlertUSA seems to think I’m in Los Angeles when I’m actually in the Bay Area. As a result it shows me earthquakes relevant for the Los Angeles area and, probably, wouldn’t warn of a real earthquake on the Hayward fault that is, in actuality, right next to me.

I haven’t encountered location issues in other apps, and I’ve given QuakeAlert full access (more access than other apps).

Really excited about the premise with QuakeAlertUSA, and should be a simple bug to fix. I would also suggest providing visible feedback to the user to indicate where QuakeAlertUSA thinks the user is. I had to do some sleuthing to uncover why I was seeing irrelevant earthquakes in the log, and why earthquakes I’d experienced in the last year weren’t showing up.

Would eagerly update my review if the bug is fixed.

Excellent App!

Been waiting for two years for QuakeAlertUSA by Early Warning Labs to be released to the public. It is definitely worth the wait.
I love the addition for the all quakes tab in the latest update.

However, it would be better with critical alerts support where the phone is in locked screen mode.

In addition, I would like the ability to set a small delay or specific time for testing the Earthquake simulator on the lock screen and drills.

The limitations imposed by USGS for the minimal level of magnitudes to 3.0+. As I live close to a fault, we have frequent very small earthquakes that are felt, but unfortunately I do not get any alerts for those.

Failed on early warning.

Had a 4.3 earthquake 8 miles away and never received an early or even a late warning. Another app I have was 3 minutes after quake ended, but I did get it. I checked QuakeAlertUSA as soon as the quake ended and it was listed as a 4.7, but never any type of warning. When I think about it, I’ve never received any warning from them on any quakes and all notifications are on. It still has a ways to go.

Fantastic App! Easy to use

Functionality is great. Easy to use, notifications are clear, and the added information on what to do during an earthquake is awesome. Knowing what I should do whether I’m inside or outside, in an office or driving, is all really helpful. I can see how QuakeAlertUSA will save lives

Great idea but...

It worked great. The alarm for the quake went off...in the middle of the quake. I was able to get all pertinent info on the quake...too bad it doesn’t go off a few seconds beforehand...a few days would be better, but I know I know...it’s good, and I hope they keep on perfecting it. It is good to know what just happened. I was surprised to be near the epicenter.

By

It worked. Kinda.

App did alert me of a quake we had about 30 minutes ago but the alert was sent as the shaking was happening. I’m only about 10 miles from the epicenter (close) so I’m thinking that was the reason.

QuakeAlertUSA did work though!

By

FINALLY!

I’ve been waiting for this to come out for so long! Super happy for the people who made QuakeAlertUSA happen, it will truly help us all. But I think it would be nice to get notifications for all earthquakes, rather than having to choose between the 3 different types!

By

Just had an earthquake

It did alert me “earthquake in your area will start in 5 seconds” but by the time I got the alert it was already half over and I was aware there was a quake already. Still cool though. Hopefully next time I’ll really get it in advance.

By

No alerts

QuakeAlertUSA must not work in Ventura County, about 100 miles north of Los Angeles. We’ve had two earthquakes and a few aftershocks in the last two weeks located only 5miles away, including a 4.1 yesterday that never once alerted. Not once have I gotten an alert in over a year of having QuakeAlertUSA. I have my alerts set to the lowest setting, too, so there should at least be something. Had high hopes, but it’s been useless.

By

Pretty good app

I received the alert at the same time as I felt the shaking of a 4.2 earthquake 17 miles away. Would have been great to get the alert before I felt the shaking but QuakeAlertUSA is way better than the city of Los Angeles shake alert app that didn’t provide an alert.

"Always" location seems to drain battery

I went into settings and changed it to "while using", and it's a lot better.

Life saving!!

I’m so impressed by the accuracy of this! We have small children and having even a few seconds warning of an earthquake makes me feel so much safer. It’s about time this type of technology is rolled out!

By

The Original!

The first of its kind that I’m aware of! A truly potentially life-saving app! Having lived in earthquake country for 33 years and been through my fair share of them, nothing is worse than being taken by surprise! Sudden shaking is terrifying! QuakeAlertUSA alleviates that fear by forewarning you to a shaker! It gives you power back, when you feel you have none. Depending on how close and strong the quake is, you’ll still get enough warning to make some vital decisions! Just brilliant!!

Need to reinstall to get working

If you had a previous version of QuakeAlertUSA installed, you need to uninstall first before installing this version or it will lock up.

After reinstalling, seems to be allowing me to set up earthquake notification alerts. Will see what happens during the bext quake.

Doesn’t work At all!

Got an email saying QuakeAlertUSA is live- the wait is over. Downloaded it and it says I need to join a wait list- then it says o need to set it up but it doesn’t work!! Never finishes the set up the “continue” button is pale grey and nothing happens!! Sick of this company promising it’ll work soon and now saying it’s available for all- but it’s not. Empty promises- untrustworthy company! Waste of time completely

By

Didn’t work

So I got QuakeAlertUSA a day before actually and well I wanted to see if it work and just by chance I set it to alter me of earthquakes 3 or higher and we had a 3.6 last night never received and alert. Doesn’t even show the earthquake. It’s showing one from 6 months ago lol. Needs some work. Pretty disappointed with since I waited for a long time for QuakeAlertUSA to come out.

By

Time tested!

We have been using Early Waning Labs’ hardware are my office for a long while! Happy to have it on my phone and be able to share it with my family!

By

Useless battery eater

QuakeAlertUSA eats my battery like crazy even in the background! My 5SE battery went from 100% to 60% in only 8 hours of sleep! This is according to the iOS stats. No other apps were active at night BTW. So basically my phone will be dead before any earthquake notification arrives, so why bother? Uninstalling asap! Will reevaluate the review if this is fixed.

By

Yay! It’s activated

I’ve been waiting for Quakealert for a while. The LA app didn’t deliver a warning for that huge quake the 4th of July but I heard this one did. It looks nicer too, I hope it works as good as they say.

By

Finally here!

App is simple and neat. Heard great stuuff about the company. Unlike the City of LA app, I actually expect QuakeAlertUSA to work

By

LIFESAVER

QuakeAlertUSA is the best I’ve come across for earthquake warnings!! It is literally lifesaving!! Thanks for creating Early Warning Labs team!!

By

Great App.

Lucky to be part of the testing process for QuakeAlertUSA. This is much needed here in California and will be a great benefit as they refine and improve how it works. So far where I live no earthquakes to judge how it will work although that is a double edge sword as who wants an earthquake but I hope some small ones happen to see how QuakeAlertUSA responds. I know the developers have put in a great deal of time developing this. Time will tell.

Not working

late last night we had 3.6 magnitude earthquake in Southern California around 11:40pm, QuakeAlertUSA didn’t notify anything at all. I don’t think QuakeAlertUSA is working.
