Not good at all.

TheSPOTApp is just as bad as the website that spot has created to locate the gps sensor. Poor design, icons are something a child would draw. The menu or options you have are very limited. When you set a filter it does not work. It has an area to set times although it does not work. I am paying for the extreme tracking which is 200 bucks a year and I should be getting updates on my device every 2.5 mins but that is not always the case, sometimes it's 10 mins. I moved my device and I got 20 miles down the road till I got an alert. 29 miles! 18 mins later I got the alert! Don't know if this was an app issue or a system issue. Nevertheless TheSPOTApp is horrible and so is the extreme tracking service. Wondering if I can get back my money. 10 years ago I went with a different company, the website was waaaay better than TheSPOTApp and that was 10 years ago! hummm maybe they are still around.

Kicking myself for this purchase and free download.

Very happy, In fact first recommendation I’ve ever written

After purchasing this product and activating it
I myself was quite confused as to how it operated. After speaking with tech-support I might add at about 10:30 PM at ... they answered promptly. After about five minutes I have a solid understanding and put the device to use. It did exactly what I needed to do. Real time Continuous tracking, accurate to within a parking space. And when I go off grid the family will know exactly where I’m at at all times. TheSPOTApp itself is perfect One click shows exactly whether the Tracker is located. Another click And you can see the route it took to get there very simple easy and understandable.

The app is basic and flaky

I purchased the SPOT Trace a week ago and put it on my boat. I was getting email alerts frequently because I didn't enable dock mode since I haven't wired this into power on the boat and didn't want to kill the batteries. I was ok with some false positives to know the device was in the right place.

A week after installing the device I got one alert in the morning then nothing after that. I had gone and taken the boat out and expected I'd receive tracking alerts via text/email. Nothing came in. I relocated the boat and still nothing after sitting. I went to the marina and the device was powered on. I cycled power and went home. One alert came in. I then opened TheSPOTApp and low and behold the alerts showed. The map however was a huge mess of points as opposed to just the location of the alert.

TheSPOTApp and the service need work. Example, I expected to be able to set mobile alerts and couldn't find the setting figuring it'd be one global setting. Nope, you have to add your mobile to EACH TYPE OF ALERT YOU WANT.

Seriously disappointed in the device and the service. I need reliable notifications or this is useless to me.

Wouldn’t recommend

Half the time it doesn’t work. Looking for something better, wouldn’t recorhis for the monthly fee, when I need it nothing is there

App and website are unnavigable and confusing

I am a software developer for both the web and iOS. TheSPOTApp and it’s accompanying website are example of when you have engineers designing products rather than DESIGNERS designing products. I want to do a simple thing: Have the GPS spot device update its location every X amount of minutes. There is no clear way to do this on either the web platform or the iOS app. I feel like my quite expensive monthly subscription has been fleeced from my wallet while three months later I am still unable to complete any of these tasks.

Guys, hire a designer. If you already have one, fire them and hire someone better.

Useless if you need to be found...

TheSPOTApp gives you a log of messages and mapped locations. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could use it to share your location with loved ones? Well, it doesn’t do that.

Basically, it will show your location in app if you have cell service. Again, pointless and poorly conceived.

I’ve been a pot user for many years. Subscription costs continue to sky rocket, and they renew your service automatically. I’ve sent a calendar reminder to cancel in 2021 before they hit my card again. I’ll be using a Garmin product next season.

Spot Gen 3

So far TheSPOTApp has been great for my recent purchase. I have sent multiple ok and custom messages, track, and non threat messages from my Gen 3 Spot (for testing), and everything has been delivered very quickly (within 1 minute), along with the accuracy of location tests very good. It shows the different logos from messages and is easy to follow/understand. So far very pleased.

Love knowing my husbands ok!

We’ve used the Spot for two seasons now and both times it has been a blessing. My husband goes up in the mountains and at times, he’s on his own. It’s nice that I can check in and see that he’s ok, especially since service out there is pretty much non existent. This has definitely been worth the investment and saved me a lot of stress!!

Don’t waste your money

I wanted to like this thing but it doesn’t work reliably. I had it in my Jeep and sometimes it would notify me when my Jeep moved sometimes it wouldn’t. Even when it did decide to work it would often be 10-30 minutes after it moved.

TheSPOTApp looks like it was developed by elementary kids. Just junk. Spot last updated it a year ago so it’s apparent they are not very invested in it. Lots of better options out there now.

Not dependable

Randomly drops track history points and status points off maps even though they are well within the 30 day limit. They may show up later but other points drop. Sometimes multiple track points never show up leaving large gaps in track. A previous reviewer used the term “flaky” which describes the system well. If Spot doesn’t correct this by the time my renewal comes up I will look for something else to meet my needs.

Update cool but issues

Thanks for finally updating TheSPOTApp! So. Still have to test on ipad but in a small SE this update us almost unusable. The icons for the pins are huge and the selection for the map styles takes up alot of visual real estate. Please fix or allow settings for screen resolution or something. DM me for screen pics.

Love it

I’ve had one in my ice house for a few years now. I wired it into the house battery. I know exactly where it is at all times. If someone borrows my house I know where they set it. If someone were to steal it I’d know it right away. Definitely worth it.

Barely satisfactory

Spot really needs to plus-up TheSPOTApp. It barely works. Graphics are a joke, and it frequently freezes, requiring offload/delete and reinstall. But it’s the only way to use a phone for Spot Trace asset location. So, TheSPOTApp gets three stars for the fact that exists at all. Otherwise it’s a real clunker and an embarrassment to the iOS platform.

Inconsistent

We installed TheSPOTApp last year and loved that we would get notices when the asset moved. Last month the notices stopped although we are still connected and the messages within TheSPOTApp are current. I can't locate a fix. Messages are not generated for some of the categories.

Useless

I will delete TheSPOTApp as soon as I finish writing this review. Didn't think TheSPOTApp could be more useless than their website, but it is. SPOT must use the same person to create their app and their website. From the looks of the other reviews, other people feel the same. I hope that if I ever need to be rescued that their emergency service is better than their tech support.

Extremely Unreliable!!!! No Updates!!!!

TheSPOTApp hasn't been updated since Jan 2016 and it shows. You have to open and close TheSPOTApp constantly to get it to update the info being displayed! It's clear that SPOT has given up on this product and doesn't intend to support it. At $200 a hit and I run a fleet of these trackers, time to look for another option. I'm done with these guys!

Doesn’t do anything...literally

I don’t understand how an App like this can exist, nor do I understand why Apple allows it’s sale in TheSPOTApp store. TheSPOTApp doesn’t do anything, it doesn’t work. Like at all. Not even a little bit. Spot is a spotty service at best, they definitely chose a good name to represent they’re lack of quality, and unreliability.

Cheers!
Hope My life never actually depends on one of these things..:(

Pretty appalling for a tech company!

It's not an app that takes advantage of modern app design. The screen layout was made for low resolution displays, so when it's run an any device made in the last 10 years it just looks clunky and awful. Very little thought was put into TheSPOTApp. The menu system is bad the maps are low resolution... It's just bad! It's not like the APIs aren't available!

Nice device!

This device works great. Just follow the simple setup directions and everything works just fine.

Pretty terrible

TheSPOTApp really is a waste of time. Why wouldn’t they make an option for things like updating device functions like pre programmed messages? I just don’t understand why a company would be happy with something that is a disservice to their products.
