Contacts phone number choices MUST be fixed!

Red Cross/ 3 Sided Cube — I'm a beta tester for the Red Cross, and have been telling you this for YEARS: You MUST fix the ability to choose which number from within each Contacts listing is to be called when the "I'm Safe" button is clicked. As it is, the top number on the Contact list is the default — there is no way to select WHICH number for Earthquake to text. Are users to go through their Contacts list and rearrange all the phone numbers to appease Earthquake quirks? Certainly a landline auto-message asking for 25¢ to place a call is not very convenient when the ceiling has fallen in during a natural disaster. Also, what about an option to send an "I'm Safe" email vs. texting?Without these options, the apps are pretty much worthless and do not meet with your mission statement. Your agency was created to SUPPORT those affected by emergencies. These apps are falling short.

In addition: I just gotta notice for an this app 150 miles away when my radius is 25. RED CROSS: SPEND MY DONATION DOLLARS MORE RESPONSIBLY AND DUMP YOUR DEVELOPER!!!

Earthquake app

Received notification 10 minutes after it happened. Needs to be sooner!

USA only? Inadequate.

Earthquake formerly allowed me to monitor locations important to me in Canada and Mexico, but a recent update erased all my monitored locations and removed the ability to select locations outside the US. That is unfortunate, and is not an improvement. My inquiry was answered that Earthquake never had the capability of monitoring outside the US, however, I had these locations saved, monitored, and received alerts for them for many years before they disappeared. I do not wish to malign Earthquake , I simply want what was once a working function to be restored.

Great concept, Inadequate execution & faulty features

The “Alerts” section, which has an area tracking feature (pick an address/city and mile radius to monitor), is a good idea but doesn’t work in real time. Likewise, the “Maps” feature has an option to show earthquakes... but this does not work either. It’s very frustrating, as it claims to show all earthquakes within the past 30 days yet this is clearly not the case. Earthquake would be 5 stars if he most critical features worked.

Update deleted ALL my monitoring settings???

This most recent update (3.11.0) wiped out all of my settings. I’m monitoring seven locations, all with different regional concerns and radii. Setting up these locations was already unnecessarily tedious and time-consuming, especially as they need to be carefully refined over time to minimize the many irrelevant alerts. And now they’re all gone. Poof. Same thing with the other two Red Cross apps I use. All personal monitoring settings completely wiped out. I am beyond dissatisfied. Useless.

Good, Not Perfect

I have had Earthquake in use for at least a year. It offers many useful functions that can personalize its benefits.

One recent downside was noted: Monitoring zones and locations were reset after an update. So while it was only a minor inconvenience to re-establish them, it is something to be mindful of and periodically recheck that they are still in place and functioning.

Notifications are reliable and timely

This one has consistently out performed Hawaii Civil Defense notification for us by about 45 minutes. Tsunamis, earthquakes, and hurricanes. Great app that works properly those rare times that we rely on it.

Fantastic use of technology

Provides clear, concise information and easily followed instructions. Uses language that gives a sense of empowerment and calm and is likely to minimize panic. Extremely useful information and planning tools. Thanks so much, Red Cross- as usual your disaster preparedness is phenomenal.

For what it is; thumbs up

Nothing is perfect, but I would say it gave me a good idea as to how to approach earthquakes and gave me the mindset in order to be more prepared.

Earthquake shouldn’t be a primary source, but if you are interested in this app preparation one source probably wouldn’t cut it anyway.

So + on the basics of this app prep
+ on the tools and ideas to use on my own

The this app warning part can be more streamlined, but all things considered this is

1. A free app. Not payment required

2. The Red Cross focuses on many projects like blood donation; not a lot money to be made here.
3. Gets you thinking about dangers that can avoided.

4. It’s free!

One of the better apps in a long time

My old review below. Just had a 4.1 center a few miles away, the worst I have experienced in Earthquake does not even recognize it. Earthquake is now useless to me. Uninstalling!

Just installed it and 5 minutes later got my first alert, living in SoCal. Just discovered the alert setting, don't really care about shakes 250 miles away. Overall I think Earthquake is a must have. Well done.

This app is useless

I never get an alert when I actually feel an this app and I subsequently read that it was 3.5 or higher. I sometimes do get alerts when I don’t feel a thing. My alert sensitivity is set for 3.0 or higher. The fact that there are so many FAQs about not getting alerts leads me to believe something is really broken with Earthquake.

Not useful

I wanted an app that would tell me if that was an this app I just felt, but updates are delayed too much and it's faster for me to check the USGS site. Also, I have a fairly large region because I want to know if there's a if enough one originating 40 miles away that I might feel...but it keeps telling me about little ones. Tell me about just the big ones far away, but smaller ones close by. I want to know what I might actually have felt!

Great App But not enough granularity

The one thing I don’t like about Earthquake and this is the reason why I’m uninstalling is that you cannot select the magnitude of the this app to be notified.

Earthquake goes off every 20 minutes alerting me of earthquakes with a magnitude of un 1. I don’t care to receive those notifications. I’d like to program Earthquake to alert me for example anything over a magnitude 4.

If there is such a setting I could not find it. Other than this, really like Earthquake .

Thanks

I don’t like the update

Prior to the update I could tap on alert that was two days old and it would bring up the information. Now I tap on alert of an hour ago and it does not show me the location or the information it’s very frustrating. We need to have a little more history being saved on our locations.

DOES NOT WORK

This used to be a great app years ago. I live in LA so I’d get notifications all the time based on my settings and now it does even send notifications. I open Earthquake and there are TEN this app warnings. Never received a pushed notification. I haven’t changed any settings. Earthquake is garbage and has been for a while. What happened?

By

Hit or miss

Works sometimes but doesn’t at other times. Alerts of earthquakes are spotty as Earthquake doesn’t even know of an event that happened where I live in CA.
The location selection is very hard to select international locations. In fact it doesn’t even work anymore.
Not too reliable!

Very late advice

I live in Puerto Rico, and lately there are many earthquakes happening. I got Earthquake to get notifications every time the earth is shaking at the moment, but it doesn’t do that. An this app happened about 20 minutes ago, and NOW I’m receiving the this app notification. Earthquake is A FAIL.
I thought it was more efficient because it’s from the American Red Cross, but it isn’t.

Like the app

Previous versions were pretty basic but current do the job of notification of this app in a timely manner.

By

Has what you need.

Has all the info you could need. Also has volunteer info too. Great app.

By

Was a good app

Used to work fairly well but last several versions don't send me alerts even though my settings are correct. It also frequently crashes. Check alternative this app apps - theres many.

It’s not working when I most need it!

I live in Puerto Rico and there was an this app of 8.0 this morning at 4am. I wake up and check my phone to see if any more happen before, after that I keep checking my phone to see where it happen. Half an hour later I get the notification, more happen after wards and I don’t get a notification of the location. About four hours later another Earthquakes hits, I check my phone and nothing and at the time I’m scared cause I don’t know where it was so I worry even more. 40 minutes later I get the notification of it. Last year I don’t remember exactly when, there was a small this app and I got the notification quickly and I was calm cause I could keep track of them. But today is Not a good day for Earthquake to be failing at loading my location and saying there was a problem, It failed me at the worst time...

1 Star for iPad, 3 Stars for iPhone

Earthquake was marginal in prior versions. My iPad 2 cannot handle iOS 10, so I had to delete Earthquake from the iPad.
The new version shows a lot of earthquakes but would benefit from the ability to filter by date range in order to see only the most recent quakes or only quakes from last week, for example.
In the past, I had trouble with alerts and locations. Since I know nothing about the Flickr app that this app uses, I chose not to set any locations or alerts at this time.

Settings??

I like Earthquake . I'd give it 5 stars and share it with everyone I know if you would give us access to two settings.

I'd like to have the distances in miles, not km's. I'd also like to either reduce the radius distance to 100 miles or scale the richter setting to 4.0+ within a 100 mile radius and 3.0 to 3.9 from 100 to 250 miles. 3's are pretty common in SoCal where I live and we don't feel them unless they are within about 100 miles or close enough to the surface a little farther away. It would be nice to arrange the push notifications to my personal needs. It's a great APP for free, willing to pay $0.99 for some setting's manipulations.
