It’s not working well because it doesn’t check your balance and something keeps popping up that says it is having trouble communicating with the server

GiftCardGenie is slow and doesn't work. Tried to look up the balance on a Academy card and a Target card, neither one worked.

I was really excited to find a gift card balance app with such positive reviews! Unfortunately, after putting one gift card into GiftCardGenie , it was refusing to download the information and balance about my card. It also exited itself out once while I was trying to load the card information. Waste of my time!

I tried three different gift cards (from vendors on their list) with no success. I ended up calling the phone number on the gift cards to get the balances.

I go to stores a lot and I get gift card so instead having to go threw 3 wawa gift cards finding the balance every time with that number you call. Tarylln there's a list of the gift cards they support.

The most recent changes (the 'alternate' lookup) pretty much make it failsafe when the automatic lookup doesn't work. Never have problems getting balance anymore.

This is just what I was looking for and it works great! It is unfortunate not all companies have online balance lookup, but that will come in time. Perhaps you could add the ability to manually track any cards that don't allow online lookup yet. That would help a lot.

Features
Gift Card Genie (GCG) simplifies looking up the remaining amount on gift cards (from supported merchants) in real time.
If there is a ReCAPTCHA, you will be taken to the lookup site with the card number in memory - just paste it and answer the CAPTCHA if required.
If you want to keep track of a merchant totally unsupported you can do that also, you'll just have to update the balance when you use the card.
An automatic lookup will occur when a merchant has a web-based lookup without a ReCAPTCHA.
Most of the time, if they're someone popular and you don’t see them here, (like Macy's) they probably don’t have a web interface.
We add merchants based on request popularity.
This is accomplished in one of two ways.
If we see a lot of requests to add someone specifically, we will do so.
