Purchased pro, but features promised are lackluster

**updating to 1 star, the devs do not respond to inquiries about the issue below and recent app updates have also not fixed this bug**

I purchased the pro version because I really liked how the free version worked, but I wanted more capabilities. I didn't even mind the ads in the free version. Mainly, I wanted the ability to use chromecast, which you can't use in the free version. However, when you are casting a video, you can't do anything else on your phone because it stops playback. I can't respond to a text, use other apps, or even TURN OFF THE SCREEN or else the playback completely stops. I don't think it's fair that I purchased a version that renders my phone useless while I'm casting from PlayerXtremeMediaPlayerPRO. I wouldn't have purchased if I knew this would happen. Other reviews haven't mentioned this problem, so I figured I'd warn other people. I'm more than willing to update with a better rating if the developers fix this issue. Fingers crossed!

Wouldn’t recommend the app or its support

I bought PlayerXtremeMediaPlayerPRO for 2 simple things - being able to stream via FTP and to load Bulgarian subtitles. It fails miserably at both. Seeking works only half the time when streaming and they’ve supposedly resolved an issue where some of the subtitle lines were missing by... deciding not to load Bulgarian subtitles at all. I reported the issue with subtitles partially loading to their Support in December 2019 only to receive a quick email from them that they are looking into it. No replies to my emails since then and no Bulgarian subtitles at all in their latest update. No reply from them to my email asking for a refund either.

I ended up paying for an app which is useless for me.

I wouldn’t in all honesty recommend PlayerXtremeMediaPlayerPRO. Giving it 2 stars only because the subtitles issue wasn’t present at the time I bought it.

Great feature set, wayy unpolished and buggy implementation

I came to PlayerXtreme because my previous media player, AVPlayer, didn't support enough audio formats. PlayerXtreme solves that problem. It plays everything.

But it does almost everything else worse.

(1) PlayerXtremeMediaPlayerPRO crashes on navigating into my SMB shares.
(2) Occasionally it has a weird interaction with my AirPods where it starts playing the audio from several files simultaneously, over top of the audio from the video you're currently watching, and the only way to stop it is the quit PlayerXtremeMediaPlayerPRO .
(3) The audio levels jump unexpectedly sometimes; I think related to its feature of allowing you to set the internal audio volume (in PlayerXtremeMediaPlayerPRO , separately from the iOS global volume setting) to greater than 100%.
(4) It has a really weird and annoying several-second silent gap that happens every time you lock or unlock the phone will watching something (with backgrounding enabled).

There are other issues too. I really want to love PlayerXtremeMediaPlayerPRO, since it plays the DD5.1 that AVPlayer can't handle and has much more sophisticated features for downloading content from the local network, but it breaks so much and is so rough around the edges that I am searching again for alternatives.

Just AWESOME.

I have been searching for a video player for some time now that I did NOT have to use iTunes or connect to a computer. This is truly the answer for me until iOS 13 comes out. I love how easy it is to connect through the browser and upload your content to the iPad. And the player is GREAT! I can finally create playlists of video to run one after another of our band sessions. As a bonus, there is a clip editor built in that works SEAMLESSLY WITH IMOVIE. This is the first weekend in a long time that I didn’t need to bring my Mac to do the rough cuts of our sessions. For the 7$, it works flawlessly. I am running this on an iPad Pro 11. My only real regret is that I didn’t know about PlayerXtremeMediaPlayerPRO sooner.

I thought it was the best player

I have had PlayerXtreme from its birth on IOS. I always thought it could play mkv files but that’s not true. I have downloaded several .mkv files and there is no playback or playback with no sound. All other formats are welcomed and play well. I would have given them four stars but miss representing and the fact it can’t playback .mkv files I’m giving PlayerXtremeMediaPlayerPRO solid three stars. There is only one media player app better than this IMO. I will not mention the apps name but it was discontinued once but they are back with full power and amazing ... LAN Player (partial hint)!!

Amazing App for Media,

This little app lets you see connect and stream media from your windows SMB network without needing to run a silly media server program like other players. It's polished and updated... it supports HEVC (the newer 265 codec) and can play high bitrate 1080p without issue. It lets you remotely download files for later offline viewing.. i'm just naming stuff i use.. it can do way more.. subtitles are great, multiple audio and video stream selection.. just wow. thanks devs.

Feature rich app to play media

This is an updated review from one that I made a while back (see below). The pro version does not have ads anymore.

Overall, this is a very good app, and recommended.

That said, for whatever reason (several updates back), the option to use a web browser (“From internet”) with a great UI (like other standalone iOS browser apps) - and I’m not talking about the “From URL” or “From Browser” options - was unfortunately removed. This was a great feature and I hope that the dev will bring this back.

Old review:

***Now with ads and an IAP to remove it just like the light version***

Two concerns

I do not know if it is PlayerXtremeMediaPlayerPRO itself but I have noticed that my iPad frequently becomes disconnected from the WiFi when I use this. Aside from that it could really use a mini player like the TV app has. That said I find that it gives me a good range of control for volume and enjoy using it for an audiobook player. Overall I would probably rate it 3.5 stars as opposed to 3, but I have not figured out how to throw in a half star. The bottom line is that it is a decent app that could hit excellent with a couple of changes.

Bluetooth headphones and mkv cause issues, no Dev response

PlayerXtremeMediaPlayerPRO (and free version) used to be the best on PlayerXtremeMediaPlayerPRO Store for playback of vids. In the last few months these were updated.

The new update causes issues w Bluetooth playback onto headphones on mkv files. The audio is not synced and video playback is choppy. I have isolated it to this case and sent numerous request back to the dev but alas no responses.

This coupled w other annoyances are making me find another app and seek a refund for this. They include annoying chrome cast support (can’t do anything else while casting), no ability to clear history in the browser functions, no video PIP support, etc...

Great Program

The program works great on my iPad. Downloads fast, both audio and video. Organizing files and folders is a breeze. I highly recommend the pro version. One small complaint I have the pro version which is not supposed to have any ads but recently a ad button keeps popping up on my screen to buy the pro version which I already own.

Metadata keep disappearing

Connect my collection on my smb server, PlayerXtremeMediaPlayerPRO start downloading all the metadata so we get pretty movie poster and info. But for some reason sometime after i disconnect server or close PlayerXtremeMediaPlayerPRO , some or all metadata disappear and PlayerXtremeMediaPlayerPRO redownload everything all over again. And 1 more thing, every time i pause when watching a movie. PlayerXtremeMediaPlayerPRO stop playing it all together, you can’t resume it at all. and you can’t fast forward to the scene you watch before, so you have to watch it from the start.

Does not support chapters / chat with team non-functional

I spent hours adding chapters to multiple, hours-long educational videos (MPEG-4, using Subler) only to find out (after laboriously transferring them) that there was no chapter functionality or support. Bummer! Can this be added, please?

(I was going to try asking directly but the “chat with team” function in PlayerXtremeMediaPlayerPRO did nothing.)

Generally like using PlayerXtreme Pro and have no issues. Thanks.

Caption broken. Only showing few words of each line.

Since the recent upgrade on 12/7, the caption no longer works. Please fix. It only shows the first few words of each line. Making the font size smallest help some. I believe it must be the display area of the text box.

As for other feedback, please bring the playback speed to the forefront and not deep inside the options. Also, overall the controls are too small and I keep fat fingering everything. Very annoying. (This is accentuated on an iPad.)

Best of all Media Players

PlayerXtremeMediaPlayerPRO plays every media file smoothly and connects to your network so easily that you feel that is so intuitive that you would like to have included the Picture in Picture functionality included in future versions. This PRO version worths its price!

Great, So Far..

This is a great app for playing all sorts of media. I have had issues with it in the past, being slow and not connecting to my network. But lately it seems more stable and a lot faster than I remembered. I hope they don’t do another update to break it!
