Asking me to pay twice for the paid offline version?!!

2022-05-23

I paid for the offline version of this a couple of years ago and now they've replaced it with a completely different free app that requires internet access to work.

And now they are offering the paid version as an entirely different app and asking me to pay for that again!

$20 turns free and downgrades

2022-06-24

So, let me get this straight. I paid $20 for this and then instead of you continuing to upgrade me you come out with a new downgraded version that you are giving away free to everyone and you have a new app that you want me to buy all over again. No free upgrade. No reduced price upgrade for loyal customers who took the plunge before. Not even an option to stay with the non-online version we have already unless we want the annoying update tag sitting on our app store icon forever. And this isn't the first time you've done this so we shouldn't be shocked. Thanks. Thanks a lot.

Unintuitive, crashes often

2022-07-25

The UI is very unintuitive and MathStudioExpress often crashes.

What happened??

2022-08-26

This was a great app I purchased years ago and was great. I recently had to reset my phone and it's been changed to basically a totally different calculator and I'm expected to pay again?? This was a 5 star plus app before this update, very disappointed.

More money? Again? Greedy!

2022-09-27

I have never written a review before, but must speak out against this developer. I have spent $90 on this product since the Original Spacetime and now have basically watered down apps on three devices. I am a Mathematics Professor with over 1000 students a year and used to have it in my syllabus as my "top recommendation" but now it is the only app listed as "avoid". Not because of how good MathStudioExpress is, it is still good software, but because of the greedy way the developer makes you pay for updates again and again. Don't get caught in their web! If you purchase this product it won't be long before they "update" it to junk and make you re-buy the next gen app.

Still a pile of bugs

2022-10-28

Still buggy as heck. I've bought this twice now, first as Spacetime and now as Math Studio because it feels so close to being useful, but I still cant use it for anything other than as a toy. I suspect the positive reviews are from people doing single entry calculations because I've been trying for over a year to use this for serious computation and it simply unusable- never because of problems with the underlying math engine but always because of top level interface bugs.

The latest are the disappearing menu bar and the inability to recalculate plots after saving a worksheet. Those will get fixed and something else will be introduced to make MathStudioExpress unusable.

Time to figure out the syntax for iCAS...

Shameless self promotion

2022-11-29

MathStudioExpress is a little confusing to use. I come from matlab and liked the idea of a scripting env on the go. MathStudioExpress doesn't deliver.

There are now ads for some other app made by this company. I've had a dev try this in the past and called them out on it. I just emailed the dev and am waiting to hear back from them. I absolutely hate greedy people. MathStudioExpress is quite expensive and to use it as a shameless plug for a stupid kiddy app is unprofessional and irresponsible. This company has lost my respect and if they don't remove the ads my business. I don't recommend it and suggest wolfram Mathematica as an alternative.

Not happy with the update!

2022-12-30

I have used MathStudioExpress since the first version, the SpaceTime.
MathStudioExpress should have been very useful. However, before this update there were essentially no updates. Or, when there were updates, one had to pay many more bucks for them. Even though the present update is for free, it's only a shrunk-down version. One has to pay 40 bucks for the complete updated version. I have several scripts programs written with previous versions. After the automatic update to the present version, those scripts files can no longer be accessed even though they are still hidden in MathStudioExpress 's allocated memory space. A scripts file should be able to be stored or copied as a simple text file, but MathStudioExpress does not allow one to do that. What's worse is that the only way to transfer files is through connecting to iTunes. That's really a ludicrous thing to do nowadays! Another thing to complain is about the manual for functions. There are essentially no explanations whatsoever about how to use them in the examples shown. One has to figure out by oneself the meaning for each variable or parameter used by the functions. In shorts, MathStudioExpress is very unfriendly for users!

Almost Perfect

2023-01-31

This is my first review of an application. I felt obliged to write it because I respect the developers for making it for the IPad. I use it for teaching calculus in my university. My students love it. I initially felt bad because they did not have MathStudio for free for people who owned spacetime. But after I used it, I believe that they deserve every penny that I spent. If they had asked for $20 I would have bought it also. Do not hesitate, buy it and you won't be sorry. Hope to see more updates more frequently. It still requires some improvements. Keep up the great work developers!

Very powerful, but messy interface

2023-03-04

I love MathStudioExpress-I'm an engineering student and I mainly use it to double check my homework or if I'm really stuck on a particular problem. It's been able to calculate everything from Calc 1-Calc 3, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Calc-based physics, Statics, Dynamics, etc. but learning how to get MathStudioExpress to do those problems was another learning experience entirely. As long as you have patience learning how MathStudioExpress works, you won't have any trouble using it for simple to advanced math. Pocket CAS is a good option to check out as well, but it's not quite as powerful as MathStudio.

Not for the Noviate

2023-04-02

I am not certain whom the developers of MathStudioExpress are aiming to please. In this and in their formerly wonderful, now merely functional, Solve, they seem largely to be pleasing themselves. Math Studio is a very good program, but apparently not powerful enough for serious mathematicians, and much too complex for amateurs. I tutor high school math. I keep Math Studio on my phone for the rare occasions on which I need power and flexibility, especially in graphing, that I can't find elsewhere, and on which I have the time to work through the fairly complex interface.

scaling

2023-05-04

Hi there,
i have the same problem with my galaxy nexus and couldn't solve it. In polar-mode the function sin(ฮธ) should produce a circle. The small view shows it, but the large view shows an egg (approximately :-). That is called a bug in my current universe ;-). The grid-rectangles seem to have the ratio of the physical display. The programmers should use the largest available square for subdivision, so that the grid shows always squares.

Best regards,
mathyou

Amazing

2023-06-04

This is not a standard calculator app. This isn't what I break out when I need to quickly add a few numbers together. This is, however, probably the best calculator for higher mathematics available on MathStudioExpress store. Need to visualize a 3D parametric function? Done. Need to quickly integrate some problematic function? The answer appears almost instantly. I understand that MathStudioExpress isn't quite Mathematica level, but then again it doesn't cost several hundred dollars like Mathematica does.

If you simply need a general calculator, then MathStudioExpress is not for you. If, on the other hand, you are doing any sort of real mathematics (esp at the university level) then do yourself a favor and buy this incredible time savor.

Top Quality Software

2023-07-06

As a university professor teaching statistics and research design, I have virtually every math app available on iTunes. MathStudioExpress is is without a doubt in the top five percent of all the apps I have. I used to have the old "SpaceTime" app which was also excellent but this upgrade tops even that. In addition to using it for your iPhone/iPad, making the investment to download it to your PC is also highly worthwhile. Paul, and the other developers are also courteous and very professional to work with when I had some trouble activating the PC version. I have only written three reviews since iTunes first came out so that fact in itself should speak volumes about what I think of this software.

Very nice!

2023-08-06

I use this very often in Algebra 2, and soon I will use this in Calculus. This is much nicer to use than a TI, and much cheaper. I got it at $10, compared to $170 for a TI. Very worth while, and does everything I can imagine and more! I would suggest that the developers add the ability to export the graphs as pictures in the camera role (not as a screenshot, but standalone picture file of the graph, without the title bar or interface in the image). It would be nice to export these to other apps, such as in documents and power points. I believe that developing an export feature allowing for multiple file formats, such as PDFs and pictures, would be very useful.

Potent math power

2023-09-07

I'm a freshman engineering student in calculus and multidimensional math. Math Studio is taking time to learn, but its graphic displays are superb, solutions to multiple linear equations fast, loading speed decent, and ability to work with files at times truly delightful. The program offers plenty of functions that, of course, take time to explore and learn. Rather than lug a laptop about, I carry Math Studio everywhere on my iPod and thus rarely suffer from "mathematicus interruptus." While I have yet more to learn about this program's potential, there's no question it is worth the price if you're doing higher level math.

I Always Go Back To This App

2023-10-09

I need to preface this before moving on, I'm certainly no mathematician and I'm definitely not an app developer. However, I have a sincere appreciation for mathematics and I do homeschool my teenage son and in this process of teaching my 11th grader I myself have to review and grade all his math projects, now when I do this I actually use MathStudioExpress (excuse me, I have been using Spacetime, I just upgraded to this Math Studio app) and I do so because of the UI. Prior to using MathStudioExpress I went through all the tutorials and I truly like working with this user interface, for me it is easy to use. Other feedback, that appeared negative, reads as if an app developer was writing about the UI? So, I thought that I would put my two cents worth as an end user. Finally, I have bought several other calculator apps but I always keep going back to using this one.

Great app

2023-11-09

This program is very easy to use considering how powerful the graphing utility is. The ability to simply add a time component opens up the realm for a lot of discussion in class.

To the person who said it gives an incorrect answer taking the derivative of ln(xyz) wrt y, you would need to write ln(x*y*z) to get the correct answer. Like any other moderately compleat graphic system, you can name your variables anything you want. So it thinks xyz is your variable instead of x times y times z. This is common among Maple and Mathematica as well.

Mini Mathematica!

2023-12-11

Perfect for any math from algebra to linear algebra and beyond, solves equations of course and does everything offline
Plenty of tutorials to get you going, intuitive language
You can easily zoom in and pan around the plots when you're graphing functions as well as define how nice to render them
Can easily generate custom fractals which is really nice but you can't export them that I know of
Overall really nice app, esp recommended for calc students

where is the fractal๏ผŸ

i canโ€˜t find the entrance of fractals in the recent versions

Features

MathStudio Express, a full-featured scientific calculator with hundreds of mathematical functions that cover Basic Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Statistics, Finite Math, Linear Algebra and Statistics.

Use the T variable to create animated plots that graph in space and time! MathStudio is the first calculator to introduce time graphing when it was first released as SpaceTime in 2003 for Pocket PC.

Graph equations with speed and ease you never thought were possible! Move, rotate and pinch function, parametric, polar, implicit, contour, spherical, cylindrical, vector fields, fractals and image plots with amazing speed and accuracy.

"MathStudio is a natural for students and for engineers who occasionally need a comprehensive math program but don't need the full horsepower and daunting complexity of Mathematica or Maple.

"This is truly an amazing piece of software for the iPhone that could potentially render all the graphing calculators out-there obsolete! I was very impressed with all the graphing features (2D, 3D, 4D, etc) and the powerful CAS loaded with preprogrammed functions.

MathStudio is powered by that fastest proprietary computer algebra system available on iOS that beautifully typesets your answers.

Create scripts in MathStudio's powerful programming language that supports variables, loops, and recursion.

"I've been waiting for a program like this a long time on my iPhone or iPad, and somehow never found MathStudio until now.

MathStudio even includes an advanced regression analysis package, choose from several regression functions or create your own.

Got a tough algebra equation to solve or polynomial to factor? Solve quadratic equations, systems of equations, limits, derivates, integrals, differential equations and much more.

MathStudio solves and displays complex expressions in a fashion that reminds me of my TI 92's 'pretty print' mode.

I continue to be stunned by the speed and accuracy in which it solves/plots/does just about anything you could possibly need to do in math.

MathStudio is an indispensable tool for students, teachers, and engineers.

"I am so lucky to find this application! I will never use TI-89 again! And the price is unbelievable! And you can do scripts! TI-89 costs over 100 dollars.
