Use Slack instead

I have to access multiple teams on this app that are created by others. I have to use different email addresses for the different groups, and yes I have verified this Atlassian repeatedly. Not too bad an issue on a regular computer as I use the web app instead. However, on iOS the web app redirects me to the iOS app which is already in use on one of teams. iOS will not allow me to download a second copy of HipChat , and I cannot access the web app, so basically I have to figure which team I need to access most.

I really wish the team admins would use Slack.

Ugh

Forced to use this for work, coming from Skype. this app is a flat downgrade in almost every possible aspect. I could go into detail about the missing features and inadequacies, but anyone using HipChat in a professional setting for more than 10 minutes could probably create a 20 slide deck outlining those things. Sad that Atlassian has decided to sunset this product in favor of hosted solutions. It has a lot of potential, but has not yet been fully realized.

I wonder who sent me a HipChat?

...Is what I ask myself every time I see the notification badge showing I received one. That little red badge showing the number of messages you received is so tantalizing. You click to open HipChat and bam!!! Let the guessing game begin. I have over 100 people I regularly this app with, trying to discover who sent me a this app in HipChat means clicking on every conversation and looking at the date and time of the last message received because:

UNBELIEVABLY this app DOES’T PUT AN INDICATOR WITHIN HipChat ON THE ACTAUL CHAT YOU RECEIVED A MESSAGE IN!!!!! WHAAAAAT??????

This means you must manually search every conversation until you find your new chats

I Have to Use This For Work

this app is not a good messaging app. Most people choose slack instead.

My main problems with this app include (disclaimer: some of these desired features may actually exist but just have poor discoverability, which to me is the same problem):

- No support for markdown flavored syntax
- No message threading
- No multiway direct messaging (I keep having to make one off chat rooms?? Come on)
- Laggy / poor performance, messages appear out of order sometimes
- No autocomplete for emojis
- Autocomplete for at mentions is slow
- No highlighting for messages that mention your name without an at mention
- DMs on sidebar are not sorted by recency. I have no idea how they are sorted? I think just in the order you opened them??

Come on guys, people pay you money for this software, it’s 2018, just fix this stuff. Do a usability study or something. JIRA and confluence are good! I know you can do it!

Sending often fails on iOS 12

when sending messages on iOS (12.x) most of the time I am unable to send message. In the last 6 weeks, I usually get the following error when sending: “Couldn’t send. Tap to retry”. I have to retry multiple times before the message is sent. Notifications are also often missed and not delivered. I tried a fresh HC install on 2 different iPhones and I get the same behavior. We are transitioning to Slack but it will take time due to integration - this needs to be fixed as it impacts the business process.

Does not support photos.

My husband had be download this so I can communicate with him at work. It worked great until iOS11. Now it doesn’t support photos and it will often alert me I have a new message, but when I open HipChat the message won’t load until I quit and restart it.

Notifications, Hardly Ever

Once in a while I am notified by sound, phone vibration and visual notification that someone reached out to me via this app. I'm other words I'm missing lots of work chats. And if I see a chat indication from home screen on phone, once I open HipChat I don't know who sent the chat. Take a look at others like Slack and see how notifications are displayed. This is really sucking since I need HipChat for work.

Where do I even begin

There are many small bugs in this mobile app. Worse than that is the amount of time it takes to respond to a single message.

After taping on a notification it's not uncommon to spend 30 seconds waiting for HipChat to load up the conversation so I can reply. Compare that to respond to an SMS notification which can be done almost instantly.

Lack of Control (sorting)

this app works great for business communication, but is really lacking in control of 1:1 chats - you cannot sort by any logical means. Unfortunately after you have more 1:1 chats that fit on your screen, you will find that the latest message does not move to the top of the list. You have to hunt and find which messages you have missed.

No iPhone X screen support.

Work made me do it

Edit after the update. Still garbage. Still can’t attached a photo.

Randomly logged out just as you need it.
Unable to post pictures 95% of the time.
Developer not addressing known major bugs. Take a look at the version history. HipChat is not being supported. Would be happy to rip out all of the Developers products and move to slack and git.

Please just move on with Stride

I’m not sure why this app is still around when Stride is clearly the future and more on-par with Slack. Please stop putting effort and resources into this app and move everyone over to Stride, especially enterprise accounts. When enterprise folks are paying the most dollars for your products, why would you not move them to the best experience (Stride) first?

Needs updated.

I have to use this for work and the desktop app works great, but this version has unreliable notifications at best and it hasn’t even been updated to utilize the notch on the iPhone X. Definitely needs work.

It works okay, but needs better support.

HipChat sends notifications to me as I need them, and is pretty good about not draining battery. However, there's no excuse for not having a native UI for iPhone Xs. This is currently the ONLY app on my phone that runs with ugly black borders on top and bottom. Please update your app

Only supports one account and unable to suggest feedback

HipChat only supports one account, and it’s impossible to provide any feedback through their app’s suggested method, so here’s a review of one star. Even their web site takes minutes and won’t submit a general question. Circle just keeps spinning after hitting submit.

Can’t attach HEIF photos

For a while now iOS has been using HEIF for image storage. this app straight up doesn’t support attaching these files even though iOS makes it fairly easy to convert to jpeg. This means I can’t attach photos without exporting to another app. Waste of time.
