About SeeLevel

- If your device has a front camera you can use it to measure the level from the ground or use it as an inverted plumb.

Measure angles and align objects viewed through the camera.

It is easy to use and effective for many types of measurements (angle, height, distance).

and this is 'bout the best visual inclinometer I've come across, and yes my boss does like it, especially on how close the accuracy is compared to a Suunto Tandem.

SeeLevel also includes a distance/height estimation tool and traceable level.

NOTE: Requires a device with a camera.

- Calculate the height of, or distance to, an object (Inclinometer).

Simple, effective and finally offering a clinometer with percentage.

i.e. compatible with all iPhones, iPod Touch 4 and iPad 2.

Very good, I can recommend it.

The interface is uncluttered and very clear.

Good job.

I work for satelite co.

Excellent app for height estimating

I got this to be able to measure tree height for a new hobby of finding champion trees. The cost of a good clinometer is a bit much for a hobbyist. I bought a tripod adapter for my iPhone, which is a necessity for accurate results. You can not accurate results trying to hand hold. To verify the accuracy, I measured the ground to soffit height of the roof of my house which was exactly 26’9” using a Leica Distometer laser. SeeLevel measured it at 26.7’ which is basically equivalent( less than 1” difference) I used an iPhone 6s with a tripod about 30’ away from the house on sloping ground. It is simple to use, but not intuitive, so read the guide.

App is apparently abandoned

I got this app a week ago. The inclinometer, for which I bought SeeLevel , does not work. The inclination always reads NAN, even after an apparently successful calibration. For you non-computer folks, NAN means not-a-number and indicates that the inclinometer, at least, is seriously broken.

I emailed SeeLevel ’s author through the link in the Apple App Store explaining the problem but it’s been a week with no reply.

SeeLevel has not been updated in 4 years. I have an iPhone 12 running IOS 15.3 so maybe I shouldn’t be surprised SeeLevel doesn’t work. My bad for not suspecting this before I bought SeeLevel . If you run similar hardware or IOS version buying SeeLevel is like throwing your money in the street.

If I get an app update that fixes the problem I’ll revisit this review.

Great app!

I use the inclinometer frequently for hiking trail building and design. Easier to use and sufficiently accurate for everything but actual transit required accuracy.

The level functionality is outstanding!

Great for backcountry ski

App is fast, interface is simple. Aim and read the angle, just what you want for skiing.

Very handy app

This is a very handy app to have, since most people don't usually carry around a clinometer. The most interesting use is to measure an object's distance when you know it's height, or vice versa. One limitation of using this instead is that you'll usually need to zoom in on the object, and it's hard to hold it steady enough to make a precise measurement. With that in mind, this is still quite useful.

User guide is useless

Not intuitive and user guide doesn’t help.

Good Inclinometer Functions App

SeeLevel is just what I was looking for. In addition to measuring the angle of the phone, you can use it to measure the height of a vertical object if you know the distance to the base, or you can measure the distance to an object of a know height. SeeLevel does all of the trig automatically. You view the object through the camera, and it displays the level horizon on the screen along with the angle or height above or below level. So you can measure the height of an object where the bottom is below your eye level and the top above, just add the two numbers.

If there is one problem, it is that the gyro chip in my 5s seems to not be as accurate with the phone held vertically as it is laying flat. You can calibrate it in SeeLevel , but I can't seem to get mine better than about 1.5 degrees. So if you view a distant object that you know to be at eye level, it may show level horizon to be above it. This doesn't seem to ruin the height or distance measurements because the angle error is the same at the top and bottom of the object. But if you need angle from a true horizon, it might not be accurate enough. Maybe the chip in the 6 and 7 are better.

Great app!

It is not perfect, but it gives pretty good approximations.
suggestion: name the instructions "Instructions" no tips
All in all, it is a great app and for 99 cents you get a great tool. I would recommend it.
Suggestion: name the instructions "Instructions" no tips
Note: you do not have to include units

Very nice

I work for satelite co. and this is 'bout the best visual inclinometer I've come across, and yes my boss does like it, especially on how close the accuracey is compared to a Suunto Tandem. Now if distance can be measured in actual footage, but that's not a biggy for what I mainly use this for, good job guys!

Sea-Level

Handy clinometer to have on a phone

Great but....since I upgraded to iphone4 info button doesn't work

This is great for use with my environmental science class to determine heights of trees/objects. I think it needs an update though. It crashes each time I try to get into the info screen and I need to calibrate it.

Question re Default Units

Can you tell me how to change the units. Do I type "150 yds" or somehow change the default to yards automatically?

Solar Slope

So I'm attempting to put in tracking solar arrays on a sloped hill. I need to know the angularitys of the sun from East to West and on the south. I view the east west and southern tree lines to know how many trees I need to take out. SeeLevel is awesome.

Poor instructions on usage

I need to learn how this tool can measure distance, like the length of a car or height of a room. Can't yet speak to it's precision.

Feel free to email me at my company - tim at toptiersolar dot com

Works

Neat app.

Guide is useless

The Guide us absolutely useless. I have a great knowledge of trigonometry and find this guide lacking in specifics and details as to proper usage. I have a high school protractor and a tangent table that works better.
