The BEST QUAKE APP NOTIFICATION!!

I've had Quakes for over a year and out of all the apps I have, Quakes gives me the quickest notification before all the others I have!! I live in Hawaii and the purpose of Quakes being that we don't have much this app here is for the purpose of a Tsunami threat. I have my notification set to notify me on this app over 6.0 as that would probably be where I look into it a little more as it may have generated a possible Tsutsumi. Once I get this notification I go to my disaster app and it usually follows and that app tells me if a widespread tsunami was generated. The two app combo I have is the best!! I'm always the one send notification to friends and family before the news gets it out to the public!! GREAT APP AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! Quakes is so simple but yet so AWESOME!! Don't hesitate download it 👍🏽

Put back the MAP option!!!

Update..still not showing where a particular quake is when it happens-STILL not fixed. There used to be a Map link that you could touch and it would bring you right to where the quake happened on the map. It’s gone. My husband goes to Japan often, and when there’s a quake there, I WANT TO SEE WHERE THAT QUAKE IS!! FIX IT!!

Terrible update when you take away a good feature! I would give it zero stars if I could. You took away the map option to bring you to that quake. I also find it frustrating not to be able to move the map all the way around, in the Pacific. You can't go beyond a certain point going west and have to go all the way east to get there, or vice versa. It's hard to explain, but Quakes needs to be able to go 360 all the way around in one direction or the other.

Wrong Country/Location Name

I used Quakes for many years and I really like its quick notifications and accuracy. However, I think it did not follow a common sense rule, and replaced “Taiwan” (Republic of China) to “Japan” since about a year ago. For example, the latest 5.7 magnitude quake happened on October 23, UTC time 4:34 AM at 104 KM east of Taiwan, but Quakes shows it happened in “Japan”.

I think Quakes developers need to re-take some Geography training. Don’t you know this particular earthquake center is 600+ KM away from the nearest Japan island Okinawa? Or, don’t you know Taiwan is NOT part of Japan and NOT part of Mainland China either? Why don’t you just change California or Hawaii to Japan next time? The computer system will not make such mistakes. Only human being can make such things happened, but that’s not called a mistake - but called discrimination!

Convenient, Quick & Easy

Well made app. Map is easy to navigate (formatted similar to apple maps) & quick loading, shows ALL earthquakes, from 1.5's on, and represents their strength in different colors, shows exact location as it is zoomed in, and provides much info on the earthquake(s) in that particular area. My only small complaint is that I wish there was a filter icon so only the 4.5's and bigger would show. But other than that, extremely straightforward & detailed enough for my much liking. ✔️

Great on the iPhone, frustrating on the iPad

I use this on the iPhone a lot. It’s intuitive, easy to use, shows patterns and trends - and I appreciate how the alert zone can be set up.

But on the iPad, it’s layout is frustrating to the point of being unusable. It’s display formatting is bad, data goes offscreen even though there is plenty of white space on screen, and you can’t change the format to suit your preferences. I deleted it from the iPad, and can’t recommend it enough on the iPhone.

Earthquakes

Nice faster updates. What happened to the map option when you select a quake to look at. I'd like the link to the map location put back. Thanks.

Not useful at all.

Unresponsive app developer.

Notification of an earthquake will give magnitude and area of location but, usually, you can’t find the location in the map. Even the list of earthquakes for a U.S. state or magnitude doesn’t list an large magnitude earthquake within 65 to 90 minutes of the notification—if at all.

The pins indicating earthquake epicenters change location by as much as 600 miles when shrinking or expanding maps. What looks like an earthquake in your town is likely to have occurred elsewhere.

Many epicenters are mis-plotted.

The maps don’t show all the earthquakes that happen in an area until you get down to a scale so small you can’t see activity overall: thus, you can’t determine trends in the seismic activity.

In essence, Quakes is of little scientific or professional value, and thus should be considered useful for entertainment purposes only if even that.

Great update!

I have used the previous revisions almost daily. The update is well done and the continuously scrolling map is really a nice feature. The integration of the map location within the list view is slick. Thanks for the great update.

Current revision is broken.

Loading the “about” page causes a web page to display, followed by a frame load error. The problem report link fails on a 404. Push notifications are always on and the minimum magnitude is ignored. The switch for notifications always appears to be off, but turning it on has no effect and the next time Quakes is started it is off again. The notifications keep coming regardless. Sloppy coding.

Like this app, but....

....I'm not thrilled with one aspect of the recent update. In the previous format, you could click on an event, go to that event's data, and then you could see exactly where the event took place on the map. The ease of going directly to that place on the map is now missing. Please put it back in the next update!

Quakes

I have had Quakes for some time. I love it! I was amazed of how many Earthquakes we have on a daily basis. I had to set the settings to just notify me of the big ones. Quakes will not disappoint.

Thanks for keeping us safe!

Quakes is fabulous. I need to know about this app since I am in the maritime business. This keeps us aware of areas where sunamis may be happening. Thanks so much!!

Nice update!

I'm so used to seeing the iOS 6-style layout, I almost thought I was using a random app when I opened it just now. Update is long overdue and VERY well done!

Great app but.....

Had Quakes for several years and loved it. Still good but now my notifications keep turning off. ALL the time. Very, very, very annoying. Please fix.

App won’t load in iOS 13

I downloaded Quakes about a couple of years ago, and it worked fine, but when iOS 13 released i started having issues and now Quakes won’t load

Love this app; what are the symbols on the map?

The map is very high resolution. When I zoom in, I find some symbols over properties that I'd like to know the meaning of. E.g.: a dot, a plug, a $ bank, a padlock. What do these mean?

I made it stop crashing

Like everyone else Quakes would give me push notifications but when I open it it would crash. I have now got it to work on my iPod touch. This is what I did. Perhaps it will work for others.

To get in I open Quakes and while it is loading the map and before it crashes I tap the lower right corner where the "I" is to get to the settings. It crashed several times but I kept trying until finally I got to the settings screen. Once at the settings there is a option to reset. Inside that option are several resets. I clicked everything.

Two of the resets are for clearing the cache these gave me a cocoa error. I expect this is part of the reason it crashes. Still I reset everything. Then I click done. On the prior screen there is a check mark to save data. I cleared this check mark. I also cleared the check for vibrate since I don't have vibrate. I then set my alerts for 5.0 and above and set the map for satellite and the sound for sonar. I saved it and exited. No more crashing. 

I still get all the push pins and prior data so I don't know what is not being saved but Quakes does not crash anymore.

I would give 5 stars but I had to figure this out on my own so I'm keeping one star for me. 

Malfunction

Is Quakes not working properly, it’s only doing about half of its functionality?
