About GoodGuide

Hundreds of thousands consumers use GoodGuide’s website and mobile apps every month to help decode product labels, research ingredients, and make more informed decisions about the products they purchase.

GoodGuide has grown to become the web’s most comprehensive and credible resource for information about the impact of consumer products on human health.

To fulfill our mission, GoodGuide combines manufacturer-provided information about product ingredients with authoritative information on the health effects of chemicals.

We believe that as more consumers choose products that contain ingredients with fewer health concerns, retailers and manufacturers face compelling incentives to make and sell better products.

We rate products so that consumers can have instant access to credible information about products that would be very difficult for anyone to develop on their own.

Outside the U.S.: Though our product ratings currently cover U.S. products, similar versions of the same product are available in many countries.

We are a team of scientific experts in product and chemical information and have been engaged in this project for ten years.

Search, browse or scan safe and healthy consumer product goods based on scientific ratings.

GoodGuide’s mission is to provide consumers with the information they need to make better shopping decisions.

The GoodGuide Rating was developed using methodologies that are grounded in the sciences of informatics and health risk assessment.

The higher the rating, the better the product from a health perspective.

This app includes scientific ratings for thousands of food, personal care and cleaners.

If you live outside of the U.S., you can still use this app as thousands of consumers currently do.

Products are scored from a low of 0 to a high of 10.

Not user friendly

Not intuitive or easy to use. Not easy or even somewhat easy to navigate. Information provided is simplistic and general. The filters, when you can find them, are basic and unwieldy. Doesn’t provide data on enough brands. People who go to the trouble to download an app to research product ingredients expect a sophisticated, detailed and user friendly product, not one that looks as if it were designed for 10 yr old users. Don’t waste your time.

What happened to Good Guide?

When I first got GoodGuide a few years ago, I thought it was great! Now, I’m only giving it 2 stars instead 1 star because of its prior usefulness. Previously, on the products it rated, it gave comprehensive information on chemical, environmental, health, social, and ethical factors. Now there is virtually NO information other than a number which in my opinion is useless without the words to back it up. What happened??

Where is the food?

Years ago, this was a great app. Now I wonder who owns it. I find it hard to believe for example, that Crest 3D toothpaste gets the highest score of 10. Probably just takes info from manufacturers now. And there’s no description as in the old days, further contributing toward skepticism. Worst of all: where the food? The only categories listed are Personal Care, Household, and Babies & Kids. I’m deleting it.

How can every ingredient not be harmful?

I wanted to look around and find why some food items were rated worse than others. A 4 rating white bread had a few chemical ingredients listed as well as high fructose corn syrup. Every ingredient though was listed as “no know health concerns...”. So what’s the bad stuff in this bread then? Hard to have faith in what the ratings are when you can’t discern why some are rated bad.

Can be an awesome app.

GoodGuide is very helpful when the product is actually in their database BUT recently I haven’t been able to find a lot of different skincare, body, or hair care products which is a huge let down. PLEASE ADD MORE BEAUTY PRODUCTS TO YOUR DATABASE!

Nice idea, but not really useable

Can’t find most products on my shelf and crashes frequently. Even when the product is found, there is not enough information to know, for example, why a certain organic mustard has ingredients that are “hazardous.”

Could be great, but misses the mark

I think there’s potential here, but GoodGuide isn’t easy to use and it gives virtually no information, making it almost totally unhelpful.

Biased to big companies - stay away

If you want a unbiased opinion stay away. How can Johnson and Johnson have better ratings than Burt bees or Honest company. They have some random way to exclude bad ingredients add long as it's within US limits or for data inadequacy (??)

Shuts down and no rate

Shuts down when looking up products. So far, they haven't rated anything in my kitchen like cereal, spices, probiotic fiber. So much potential, yet so much failure.

What is this...

1. GoodGuide said free, however said “payment processed” once downloading
2. I downloaded this to search skincare and not ONE product I wanted to research cams up
I really hope I did not get charged for this bogus app.

Needs update

I love the idea of GoodGuide and would love to use it. Most products I try to scan are not in their database.

Needs ton of progress

Not very intuitive, and just tested 10 products to see no result in the database yet...

So far can’t find anything

Downloaded to check out GoodGuide . Scanned what I had in the office. Folgers Coffee, Prince of Peace Organic Oolong Tea, Yogi Kava Stress Relief tea, Daisy Cottage Cheese - “Sorry , no ratings”. So far not impressed.

Inaccurate

EWG app is much better! Lists GMOs used in foods, hormones in dairy etc. this one claims everything is safe to use.

inaccurate

i would have given it 0 stars
