TL;DR: App is really good, my experience sucked.
I was looking for something to mess with my music since often I can’t get things loud or quiet enough, especially if I’m in a busy place and my headphones can’t fully drown out the sound. BassboosterVolumeboost looked about right, so I downloaded it and tested it. It definitely works! Obviously, I’m not going to pay for a bunch of apps, and I am definitely not about to pay for an app I downloaded (for free!!!) two days ago, but that wasn’t quite the issue. It works fine with the free version.
I turned on notifications like I do for most utility apps because most developers send considerate messages when BassboosterVolumeboost needs to download the latest update.
Instead of that simple, considerate set of notifications, I was bombarded. 6+ notifications in the period of 2 hours being reminded of all sorts of total crap. I don’t want, need, or have ANY use for messages that tell me I should buy the premium version. If I was interested, don’t you think I would have purchased it already? BassboosterVolumeboost already asks you to buy it every time you open it, the notifications were overkill and I am deleting BassboosterVolumeboost due to that experience.
To the person who reads this and thinks to themselves “but you could have just turned off notifications,” I did end up doing that first. But it became too frustrating to have the soft paywall thrown in my face every time I opened BassboosterVolumeboost .
To the developers who probably won’t read this, chill out on the paywall, please. There are people who won’t be able to afford it or just don’t want it, and you have to accept that. Make your app a set price (don’t make it free and lead everyone on), I think $2.99 to $5.99 USD would be appropriate for what is currently available as “free” and then have them pay for the features past that if they really enjoy it.
