I like the concept but the execution needs serious improvement. Specifically, most of the video is of such poor quality that it is not useful - weird angles, terrible waves that close out, multiple lousy waves in one video so that you can’t tell which one is the “target” wave, etc. Also a number of the calls of proper take-off point and wave direction are head scratchers and lead me to wonder who made those calls in the first place and how much they surf. In any event, hopefully they will improve SurfIQ but as is it’s not useful.

Really think this could help with wave knowledge but some of the exercises are clearly wrong where the wave is a left but it says it’s a right, or vice versa or it’s just a close out. Also, the angle is so tightly cropped in that you can’t properly assess the wave.

For days (or weeks) when I can’t go in the water, this is a great way to get a bit of the satisfaction from reading waves.
It’s not quite as fun as surfing, but the closest thing to it in your phone. Also, great training especially to learn to read waves outside of where you normally surf.
A must for every surfer.
