Allowance for YNAB Reviews

I love the idea of Allowance and the folks over at YNAB obviously like it as well since I contacted them about it asking if it was their app. They explained that it’s not theirs but was developed for YNAB users and they encourage its use. I was really looking forward to it but I can’t figure out how to use it. I’m sure it’s user error and I plan to adjust the rating if I can get some help from the developer but I can’t figure out how to contact them, I’m hoping someone will reach out after seeing the review.

I’m not sure if I’m not understanding how to use Allowance but it seems that the available per day only shows how much is available based on the initial budget. I want it to update with how much I currently have budgeted so it should reflect my current balance. So if I budget $900 for a category it should show me that I have $30 per day. But for some reason let’s say I have spent $800 of it at one go, then Allowance should show me how much of that remaining $100 can I spend per day.

Well it’s great but it’s kinda not, because when I go in and do refresh it dose nothing, well🤔 it might be that I don’t put the money💴 in the slot I want it in, ow ya, u haft to put money in the slot first, then push refresh😅😅😅 I feel like a dummy👉🏻🤤🤤🤤

Thanks so much for making Allowance! Just wanted to add one suggestion and it looks like others have requested this as well. The "available per day" amount should update based on how much balance is left at a given time in the month. This would help to know how much daily balance is left based on actual spending, not just the original budget at the beginning of the month. That way if you spend too much at the beginning of the month, your daily amount is lowered to reflect that. Hope you can consider adding this in the future!

I love Allowance and think it's super useful. But it seems to be glitching out for me. On my today screen it shows the three front most categories but refuses to let me expand the window to see the fourth, fifth, etc. categories. I know it can be expanded because it expanded once perfectly before, and then it just stopped.

For what it does it does fine and I find it helpful addition to YNAB.

I do wish it had Dark Mode.

I’m also concerned about it’s “privacy nutritional content” and what third parties it is using.

Very nice add on for YNAB. This is a key peace YNAB is missing. Now I can easily reference while choosing lunch or grocery shopping. Recommended updates would be... I did notice you can add the same Categories twice and I wish it was a list with checkbox to enable the ones you want. I have short memory haha. Also I don’t know why it requests write access either. Wish it was just read only. I’m still using it though.

I love this! My wife wants to be able to see categories that matter to her and not see everything else because it get overwhelming, this really simplifies things.

I would love to have budget categories in a list instead of on individual screens kinda like it does on the force touch menu.

I love this widget! It’s much easier to open my phone, and “take a peek” at what’s going on, rather than going to Allowance and seeing all of the craziness known as my budget 🙈🙈 I think it would be so awesome to have a new update and make it a bit more aesthetically pleasing though 😉

Allowance is exactly what is missing from official YNAB, super useful. Does this happen to be OS on GitHub? I’d love to do a PR with an extra option around the Pacing feature. What I’m thinking would make it even better is being able to select a payday date and payday frequency and have it adjust the “Available per day” so there is both an “Available per day until end of month” and “Available per day until next paycheck”. Or just looking at the next scheduled TBB inflow transaction to make it happen. “Available per day until next scheduled inflow.” Something along those lines. If it’s not OS can this be a feature request?

It was the missing thing to make YNAB truly helpful IN THE MONENT. All you really need to know is absolutely at your fingertips. Nobody has a hard time with mortgage or insurance payments - it’s my personal top 3 discretionary that are my downfall. THANK YOU SO MUCH for using your talent to create this immensely helpful app for us!

I like the simple quick view and progress bars. My favorite thing is the lock screen widget quick view of 3 categories. It's a really fast way to check your most difficult categories.

Hallelujah is all I can say! I love YNAB but I had been hoping for a something that was very visible or sent some type of alerts when my husband is close to busting the budget. This is perfect!!! I just wish the today view was his front screen LOL. Great job!

Allowance makes it so simple to quickly check the balances. I have a couple requests:

1: Can you make a “button” to refresh everything instead of touching em the ellipsis and then touching “refresh categories?”

2: Can you make all of the balances viewable from a single screen (assuming there are only 5 or so) rather than having each one take up the whole screen individually?

Again, great work and I love Allowance .

Finally an app my kids can use to see their category balances. They don’t necessarily have an this app, but we keep their money in our family bank account so they don’t lose it. Love Allowance ! Thank you!

I really love using Allowance as a companion for YNAB. Makes it easy to track individual categories. Thanks so much for creating if! My only suggestion for a some day update is to adjust the daily average based on spending so you can see how much money you actually have left to spend, on average, on a daily basis.

Great companion app and brings the info I need when and where I need it quickly.

One idea/request -tick marks on the ring that indicated Goals. Now that we can do weekly spending budgets, it would be cool to see ticks on the ring to know if you went under/over for the week.

Thanks for spending the time on creating what’s looks like a non-profit app. 🙌
