This doesn’t apply to all activities, I understand, but guides are required to have a permit or license to operate on public lands in most places. It also requires a hefty insurance policy. It takes experience and credentials to obtain a permit, and in some places it’s nearly impossible. Hiring someone from an app like this does not guarantee you are hiring someone with adequate experience or an operating plan to keep you safe. Oftentimes you are trusting your life with them. Folks who sell “experiences” on apps like this are usually subverting specific public policy that is designed to protect you, the environment, and the sanctity of the guiding profession. It is also highly ethical. It is in your best interest to ask for proof of licensing/permitting and insurance before hiring a guide, because apps like this aren’t doing the vetting for you.

I was really interested in checking out this app but nothing I searched for (even broad terms like ski, surf, Colorado, or California) turned up a single result. Went to register to see if that was the problem, but got a warning that the site was unsafe. Cool idea but iron out your tech issues!

The idea is great. I myself had thought about organizing adventure trips as there is a lack of specialized services and the ones that are there are not that good. However: very limited options currently available. Some of them ridiculously expensive, i.e. road biking for more than $400: you provide the bike, your own food and provisions and you ride on a normal open road. So why not just use WikiLoc or another guiding/tracking app. Yes, it is good to have the local knowledge but more than 400 bucks per person... Finally, I asked about an adventure that was on the app but I was not able to see calendar availability. I contacted the organizer, replied which adventure?, I explained, never heard from them again
