My fave transit app

If you live in NYC, you know that depending on the MTA daily is frustrating and confusing. this app gives you the option to depend on other New Yorkers (for information, at least). I get notifications from Pigeon about delays, service changes, etc. the second they happen. With the features like the daily commute notifications, my husband and I can plan when to leave our apartment to get to work on time. And we all know that just because the MTA says certain lines are working or not delayed it doesn’t mean everything is running correctly. this app will give you way more specifics (2 min delay, busy station, train skipped station, etc.). Could go on and on. Love it!

I like it but..

Pigeon is really good. I use it everyday so that I can see when the bus is coming. It usually works all the time. Either the bus comes earlier which is good or the bus comes a little late. I don’t really care about that though. The thing is it’s 35 which feels like 20 degrees in New York and it said that the 24 was delayed. Than the bus came later on. I just want to know real facts on when the bus is delayed or coming later than usually bc I have a parents that want me to go straight home when I get out of school for me to take care of my dogs and my puppy. I can’t be waiting for a bus that’s going to come in a hour or 30 minutes. Also school I can’t be waiting for a bus that’s either delayed or coming late. This is my opinion I’m not sure if it had happened with others but this was a problem for me.

Great app!

I love Pigeon! Seeing all the delays helps me decide which line to use when I have more than one option. I like that it places delays and repairs at the top of the info when you look for directions, which has saved me once or twice when I forgot about upcoming track maintenance. And I LOVE that I can actually help someone if I want to complain about train delays, which is a lot more useful than just venting on Twitter. I would love to see the option to map out multiple stops, so I could plan out all my errands at once.

My one complaint is that my saved places don’t seem to work very well. Other than that, I’m very happy with it. :)

BEST BUS APP EVER‼️LIKE ON GOD

As a former student who has to take the bus to school every morning I try to look for an app that has reliable timing for when the bus arrives, Pigeon does a GREAT job doing that! It lets you know what time it arrives and on the map gives you a visual image of how close it is. THE TIMING IS ACTUALLY RIGHT! And I’ve downloaded so many bus apps that have the wrong time and make me end up going late to school. Even if you don’t use the bus that often I recommend it a lot! It’s way better than relying on google maps too because that piece of sht isn’t honest at all. In conclusion IT HAS A HIGH RATING FOR A REASON ITS THE BEST APP EVER IM SO HAPPY I FOUND IT AND THE FACT THAT ITS FREE WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR🥳

Pigeon Transit - Actually Improves Subway Rides

It’s hard to make commuting on the subway (or LIRR, PATH, NJ TRANSIT, Buses, etc.) an enjoyable experience, however I’ve found this app Transit consistently provides the most up to date real time data not only regarding if things are running on time, but where to find seats on the trains, which platforms are overly crowded, etc. This is primarily driven by their strong community of users, quirky and fun, who post notifications for other riders - crowd sourced updates with the humor and sarcasm of hardened NYC metro area commuters.

Definitely recommend for both commuters and tourist who are trying to make better sense of the NYC transit systems!

Real time Alerts for Transit

I dig the real time updates submitted by users for delays, closures, and even if there might be a performer in a station, and find it very useful when I take the subways. However I think that they need to crack down on spam reports and should only make it so if you are nearby a station, that you can report conditions. Also find the lack of bus updates something that needs to be implemented as well as a better interface want to comes to putting in directions, like real time updates if something comes up along your trip

Why wasn’t this a thing sooner?

It’s basically a community service app for the Transit system. Picture WAZE for transit and you have the exact definition for this. The updates are plentiful and accurate, usually posted before the update to the usual sites and Twitter posts. The comments are hit or miss but what social platforms do not have this happen before?
Highly recommended and I’ll definitely try this in one of the other cities they recently added in the near future. 5 ⭐️s.

M line doesn’t go up the 2nd ave Q line

Only complaint is that Pigeon shows trains stopping at stations that are either after-hours/weekend stops only or are routes that are used when trains are rerouted during construction, even when the trains are operating under normal service. For instance, the M does not go on the F line north of rockefeller center and it definitely doesn’t go up the 2nd ave line to 72nd or 86th street except for some weekend service. Pigeon should know which lines are operating at which stops and when. An inexperienced commuter would be easily confused by the way the lines are presented in Pigeon .

Worse than the horrible MTA Train Time App

Am in Hartford for a meeting and decided with new iPhone 11 Pro to explore variations of my common existing apps so explored this app as an alternative to metro north sucky train time up.

this app is even more lame as I could not simply input the routes I commonly wanted to track and because I was not at home (Rye), this dumb app was just adamant about giving me exactly what I didn’t want which was alternatives to my home or work from present location. And when I finally figured out how to put in routes I was actually interested in, it would not allow me to put those in a kind of favorites list. So useless.

To save others the hassle of exploring this for Metro North use, I am leaving this review before I delete this worthless app forever more.

Awesome update!

The original version of Pigeon was good, but it always took forever to load and could have used some improvements to the UI. The newest update (Sept 2019) is AMAZING!!! Sooooo much faster than before and the maps quickly load so you can see arrivals for all the trains in your area.

I use Pigeon every single day since the arrival times are barely visible at my station and I recommend it to any NYers - tourists AND residents!

Must download

Dope app ... Definitely my go to app for the MTA which says a lot because the MTA has its own app ... I like the point system it gives people a reason to update any delays ( for some reason I’m still at zero but I do unlock profile pictures idk) would be cool to click on others profiles if not anonymous... I see a lot more potential for Pigeon keep up the great work

Hopefully gets better with increased adoption

The user interface is way too cluttered. Hard to understand what is going on and marking the categories is very confusing.

Example: Does a two minute stop count as a delay if the train is already at the station?

It needs to be built around where the current this app is. If I'm at a certain stop, give me the ability to mark of a train is here or if I've waited for a long time. Allow comment sections for each station so people can post whatever is relevant at that time.

Great start, needs bus info

A transit app with just subway information is great if you’re, say, a single, twentysomething, highly paid tech worker living in Manhattan who just hails an Uber anytime public transportation is mildly inconvenient. But a truly comprehensive transit app that serves ALL kinds of New Yorkers needs bus information as well, because hey not everyone who lives in the five boroughs matches the profile of the team at this app. That said, they’ve done a terrific job with what’s here. They just gotta quit vaping a minute, get off their boosted boards, take out their AirPods and broaden their horizons just a little bit.

Very Helpful for Subways

I’m an iOS developer. Three years ago I tried to make an app that crowd sourced subway delays. It never happened. Glad I didn’t because this is better than anything I would’ve done. The push notifications are great and let me know if my nearest trains are running. The interface is simple and intuitive and Pigeon looks great. Good job!

P.S. - please add a widget!

I usually don't leave reviews but

I saw your add on the subway and downloaded and loved it! Mixture of Waze and subways together . There are a ton of NYC subway apps and there's also Google maps but this one is different and unique . Loving the updates of subway closures! A few bugs and lag here and there but that can be fixed. Keep up the good work!
