About VoteWithMe

VoteWithMe is an app that shows you who in your contacts can help you affect positive, progressive change for the things that matter most to you – and lets you reach out to them to remind them to vote for those changes.

How? VoteWithMe uses publicly available records to show you who in your contacts is able to vote, who lives in areas with close elections, and who needs a nudge to go vote.

It doesn’t matter where you live or vote – see your contacts in VoteWithMe and reach out to them individually through text.

And, just like that, your voice goes further and your ability to create real change is exponentially increased with every friend that receives your reminder to vote.

A simple reminder to your friends about voting has been proven to have a substantial effect, at times being the difference between disastrous policies and lifesaving ones.

Why? We have proof that people are more likely to vote if a friend asks them to.

This is how we empower you to have the largest possible impact on elections nationwide – all through the contacts you already have on your phone.

VoteWithMe respects and protects your privacy.

VoteWithMe gives you complete control.

We will never sell your personal information to anyone and *we will never contact your friends*.

We believe the future of democracy is at stake and in the hands of voters.

You choose who to contact, and when to contact them.

Intrusive and Potentially Divisive

I’m well aware that the information it’s displaying is publically available. However we live in a very divided time politically and VoteWithMe could contribute. I already have friends saying “if you don’t vote in this election, than we are no longer friends.” VoteWithMe also prominently displays a Blue D or a Red R by each of my contacts to represent Democrat or Republican. However, in my state, it’s pulling that data based on what primary you may have voted in and incorrectly marking individuals. I have friends who are diehard republicans and democrats who voted in the other parties primary (possible in my state), to give their candidate a leg up. I am not the party they marked me as. There are unstable individuals in this world who could use this incorrectly marked data as reason to take action in a bad way. If this was just listing who had not voted last, I’d have less of a problem. I believe in going to vote. But like Facebook, I think VoteWithMe was created with the best of intentions, without thinking through the ramifications on our already divided society.

Non-intrusive, privacy-ethical tech to GOTV

This is a very thoughtful-developed app. It asks your permission before accessing any information on your phone. It runs your name against public records to tell you what elections are coming up in your legislative district, and if you let it do the same with your contacts, it tells you who you know in districts with close contests. It does not store your contact info, it does not add you or anyone else to lists. It keeps you in the driver’s seat. And it allows you to contact people you already know about voting, supporting a vigorous democracy. VoteWithMe ’s interface is very easy to use. There are no ads. There is no partisan fronting for any party. There is only support for more voices to join our democracy.

Super useful app for reminding friends to vote!

VoteWithMe shows you which of your friends can vote in the most critical races. It basically gives you access to the same public data that major campaigns use to sway elections, but it’s for regular people to remind their friends to vote!

It also gives you sample text messages that you can edit, which makes it easy and casual to actually remind your friends to vote. When you text them, you can include a link so that they get all the important info like their election deadlines, etc. The design is great, it’s super easy, and it’s a powerful and useful tool. And it’s more important now than ever!

Great app-easy and super useful

It really does what it promises: it lets you see whether your friends are registered, are regular voters, and provides texts you can send close friends, business associates, and even people you haven’t been in touch with in a while to encourage them to vote. Love that I’m the one choosing who to contact and picking which text I’ll send each individual. I’m customizing some of the texts — that’s easy, too. So far, great enthusiasm from those I’ve texted through this app. I used to get out the NYT crossword puzzle while I was waiting somewhere. Now through Election Day, I’m reaching for this app.

Inaccurate Data

It’s clear from the marketing of VoteWithMe that the goal is to get more Democrats to vote (using terms like “Team Blue” and “progressive”). Okay, fine- a savvy user is made aware that there may be a political bias involved.

However, I was disappointed to learn that it’s not even showing accurate data- I have only voted a few times, so it’s easy for me to remember who I voted for... and the data is showing that I voted for the OPPOSITE political party I actually voted for. Combined with the clear favoritism for one political party, I have very little faith that the data being presented here about myself, my friends, and my community is actual accurate.

The last major election showed us how dangerous common misconceptions can be- we do not need another source of data spreading misinformation.

Good App

The Republican that reviewed your app was very wrong. It never said it was an app for Democrats. It said it’s an app that helps you remind your friends to vote if there elections that are close or issues that need voters to come out and vote. To me it’s a great app that you can use to remind your friends, family, anyone in your contact list to vote. To be counted and heard is our one way especially people of color.

Excellent use of public information

Voting can be a pain. Last time I voted, I wandered around for 20 minutes in torrential rain trying to find my polling place (I had just moved.) It’s easy to avoid. But it’s very important, and if I knew my friends would all know whether I skipped out on it, I’d never skip it again!

I think VoteWithMe makes excellent use of information that is already public, and taps into our very human and very positive desire to do the right thing.

Quick access to public voters’ information

I love how easy VoteWithMe makes it to look up which friends always vote, and which ones might need a reminder or ride to the polls based on holes in their voting record. It’s also fun to see which of your contacts is registered with which political party! Easy to use and I love the potential for impact by friends helping nonvoting friends get to the polls.

Ingenious, personal and effective

VoteWithMe helped me connect with several of my friends and family who were on the fence about voting at all. I love that I can make a difference in a way that’s totally personal. It would have taken me hours and days to match all my contacts against public records. Also, what’s with all the fake one star reviews? What kind of people are against encouraging voting?

Excellent App for Making in Impact on Elections

this app provides information relating to your own local elections to indicate where your vote is most needed (leveraging the Cook report) and also with your permission will allow you to encourage your friends to vote in competitive races throughout the country to vote. VoteWithMe helps identify which friends will have the largest impact. Very easy to use interface and well designed

Encourages voting for one party over another instead of simply providing voting locations and facts.

App is fine, but I was less than pleased when I saw the section advising that we get to elect a new Congress, that Republicans have had the majority and that we won’t get the chance to change that again until the presidential election. Seems to be encouraging voters to vote Dems simply because Republicans have had the majority for some time. App should not take sides, and should not encourage voting for one party simply because the other was elected last. I thought VoteWithMe was about helping folks make an informed vote.

Great! But privacy problems

VoteWithMe is awesome! I love everything about it! BUT! After installing and using my phone has been LIT with campaign spam calls and health care calls. Like, non-stop ringing. How do we #getoutthevote without being spammed so much? I couldn’t find anything in the legalese to explain why this is happening, but several other people reported it, too, and this is the only thing that changed today about my phone use patterns...

Problem

Could not Find a way to clear up the problem in vote with me. All of my Contacts are shown as being between the ages of 65 and 80 in spite of the fact that many of them are younger. So, they can’t be found. Happy to have it and I will use it more if I can find more of my contacts.

Brilliant brilliant brilliant

Good research shows that peer pressure is one of the best ways to get people to change their behavior. VoteWithMe is brilliant. I’ve already used it to contact 4 people close to me to either remind them to register or remind them to vote because local elections they can participate in are tight. Excellent idea, excellent design, ridiculously simple to use. LOVE IT,

Super simple / only uses public data

This is the easiest way to nudge some of your friends remember to vote this year. You can do it from your couch! I see that there are some reviews questioning how they get voter files, but it’s all public data. Remember: how you voted isn’t public but whether you voted is.
