Melodist - Let photos sing Reviews

I would love to give Melodist 5 stars if it had a option to pay to remove ads.

Yes it exports audio and MIDI files. Tap once on the icon and it creates the file. Tap again and it gives you option of where to save. Sounds nice. It’d be nice if there were more sounds to choose from but you can use the MIDI files and create your own tracks.

Soothing music...I like the fact you can download it! For all the people complaining about a blurry photo, Melodist is for the audio experience rather than a visual experience. I like the concept.☺️

The design is absolutely beautiful, and the melodies that have come out of Melodist so far are really pretty, and each is different depending on the picture you upload. There are two free sounds (zen garden & ice cave) and three others which can be purchased for $0.99. There's also an option to export the MIDI file, but that's extra as well (also $0.99). I just wish there was some way to sample the sound first before buying it.

Nice idea, but like so many apps there is no documentation. For instance Melodist says it creates midi files. It apparently saves the file but no indication where it is on my iPad.

If they cleared the photo do you could see it this would be an awesome app!

Photos are blurry... should be that the user can sharpen or blur the photo manually.

Music means a lot of things to a lot of people. The same can be said about photos. Melodist brings both of those concepts together in a way that is unique and poignant. There is a lot to be said about knowing that a picture of a loved one or of a special place can be turned into music that is beautiful and often calming/relaxing. I love this.
However, for those of you who like what Melodist does, I recommend you hold off on purchasing the other available sounds. In my personal opinion, the free sounds they start you out with are perfect, and you don't get a whole lot more out of the other available sounds as far as the calming and relaxing and nostalgic effects are concerned. That is my only criticism of Melodist. Overall, it is completely serene and lends itself toward thoughtful introspection.

I was always a fan of this developer's previous music app, "Drummy". As I think that you can create some pretty crazy sounding beats in that program. I do wish that it would please be updated with more editing features like filters and especially more sound banks too, though.

As for, this app, I have to say that I was quite impressed after my initial use with the program. So far I've only loaded my digital paintings into it, no regular photos of people or other subjects yet.

And this is probably just all in my head. But, I could swear that the bizarre paintings that I loaded seriously created a more eerie and out there type of melody. I, of course, don't understand the algorithm used here to create music from images. But maybe the strange color combinations, intense shapes and stuff such as that is what seems to me to create the more bizarre tunes. I don't know, I just know I think that's it's all pretty cool.

Regardless of the reason behind that, I would definitely recommend, this app, as something fun to play around with, relax to, get inspired by and create some neat videos and or midi files to use elsewhere. My thanks to the developer for the time and hard work no doubt put into creating and refining this program. Thanks again and God bless.

Hey there!

This is a "MUST TRY" app for ppl who love both music and nature.
I already fell in love with Melodist when I first open it. And btw the melody is PERFECT!!! SOOOO BEAUTIFUL!!!

For future updates, I have a few suggestions here:

1. Please add more FREE animation and sounds . I'd love to share Melodist with anyone I know but as I've use Melodist for about an hour, I feel the visual fatigue of the limited animation. XD We can not pay but we can share it and let more ppl know!
2. Please add more melody. I found out the melody for each picture is a circle which means it repeats the same melody every 10 or any minutes. That's a little bit dull if ppl don't want to change the picture every several minutes.
3. Please add an option called " Make a series " or anything that can enable ppl to make a music series of 1-6 or probably more pictures. And ppl can choose how long each picture melody will last . If you could add this, THAT WOULD BE FANTASTIC and also solved "suggestion 2".
4. I LOVE Melodist!!!! I'm gonna share it via EVERY SOCIA MEDIA OF MINE if you update 1 of my 3 suggestions. :D
5. Just kidding. I already shared it everywhere. :) Good apps are worth to be shared.

Anyways, Melodist is ALMOST PERFECT! I strongly recommend everyone to download Melodist!!!!

I love Melodist, it's become a part of my night routine; however, a lot of times the songs do sound a little too much like each other, but I don't think the point here is to see what kind of sounds a picture can make which is why people call it boring. Melodist is so relaxing and with features even like the timer and the calm nature of the sounds I truly believe that is the nature of Melodist, if your looking for a pass the time game or whatever this isn't it but if you want nice sounds that are relaxing Melodist is perfect.

This is a solid app that has a neat idea which is about turning pictures into lullabies. However, there are a lot of features that could be added to Melodist to make it more engaging and fun and full of life.
For example, instead of just having lullabies, Melodist could take into account of the picture is lively and full of warm colors and make a fiesta, dancing melody based on that, or if it was based on daytime or nighttime. Melodist could also take into account the music the user listens to and base the melody on that as well.
This is a pretty creative app that will help you sleep better. I'm just saying it could be much much more.

Love this idea, played around with the pictures and having the option to play it while sleeping is a great aspect for me.

One thing though, it would be nice to have an introduction to Melodist to explain to us how it all works, and what it sis responding to because I found it out by going to Melodist store.

Once you hear one composition, the rest all sound kind of the same. The only tool for varying them is the tempo and two other background environments, one of which is $, both of which kind of convey the same mood.

If the devs want to really set Melodist apart, they could offer a choice of different primary instruments, or possibly a choice of beats, trance rythyms, or tinkly space music (or some such) in the background.

As it stands, this is a parlor trick, not something creative.

I love that this photo takes any photo from your camera or camera roll and composes a melody to it based on colors, hues etc! 😊 I recommend this to anyone who loves photography and music. I love Melodist and I can't wait for future updates and even more sounds to be added! ❤️

One of my favorite apps for sure. It has great music and a beautiful interface. The sleep timer is also incredibly useful, and I hope more options are on the way. Please add more free features as soon as possible, but still a fantastic app!

Great app. I love the concept! Unfortunately, as a musician, the lack of rhythmic consistency in the tunes gets under my skin a bit and defeats the purpose of being relaxing. However, it's ignorable as long as I'm not trying to relax. Maybe add an option of rhythm or no rhythm :-)

I love this so much, it's so original that every photo it's a new song. I really hope this gains ground one day and you'd be able to download pictures that play specific songs. Great piece of work.

Sound does not play when opening pictures after the first one. Otherwise nice app.
Also some previews of the sounds you can buy would be cool.
