Nelnet tells you when your next payment is due and you can check your inbox but the entire process is less than satisfactory.

The menu on the bottom of the screen for example leaves a space between it and the bottom of the screen (Nelnet doesn’t consider the bottom of the screen to be the bottom because of the lack of home button).

This menu also is sometimes non responsive and seems to stem from the fact that Nelnet doesn’t know the dimensions of the screen.

Additionally, checking certain messages in Nelnet will cause you to not be able to navigate back to the main screen of Nelnet . Only method to fix is to close and reopen.

I’m not sure if you guys care that Nelnet doesn’t work very well or if you don’t have the time to put into it, but it would be really convenient if Nelnet worked as intended.

Will update my review if these issues are addressed. Thank you.

This is a poorly designed app. I believe it is basically just displaying a webpage, and it doesn’t do it well. The navigation is clunky, there are zoom issues where elements of the page will unnecessarily zoom while other elements remain un-zoomed, text sizes are a mess, the main menu bar overlay consistently gets in the way when it scrolls instead of staying fixed and then covers page elements that it shouldn’t. A recent update also made bad changes to the payment function. Now you cannot see the balance of individual loan groups when making payment… it only displays the amount of accrued interest for the loan group.

I rarely leave app reviews, but Nelnet deserves its one star. This company has the privilege of servicing federal student loans and makes tons of money doing it. It’s almost criminal that they can get away with having an app this bad. Please fix it, this app.

Try clicking on Nelnet Feedback link from Nelnet Store. If you’re lucky, it may go through. More often than not it shows a broken link. Would appreciate getting that fixed so we can give developers more valuable feedback.

And as mentioned by a number of people, when you go to read your inbox there is absolutely no way to return back to review other messages or go other places in Nelnet . You have to close Nelnet down and log back in again; eg starting all over each time to read the next message.

Nelnet is literally nothing more than their mobile site, except within an app window that has no navigation buttons and doesn’t show you back, forward reload or any other browser buttons you expect and use. Need to go back a page? Too bad, relaunching Nelnet is the only way to do so to start back from the beginning.

Since it’s been over a year since their last update, I think we can assume it’s no longer under development. SO VISIT THE MOBILE SITE INSTEAD!

I got Nelnet because going into the Internet there was no way I could login it was stating that it was an insecure site. My payment went through just fine, but I wanted to check out my tax information because I would like to get my taxes done. And of course it's February 4th and there is no tax information, which doesn't surprise me. I opened my last statement and it would not allow me to go back, yes no back button. ALSO no additional buttons at the bottom of the screen as someone said earlier. Normally if there's no no back button, I will check the bottom of the screen BUT THERE IS NOTHING at the bottom of the screen. So since my statement is stuck on the screen and won't close, does that mean that my personal information is out there for anyone to see? I have deleted and reinstalled Nelnet three times now and the same thing happens. NOT USER FRIENDLY AT ALL and I am very Technical knowledgeable. Currently I am not very happy with Nelnet . Looks like I may have to delete Nelnet for a forth time.

No, no question mark needed. This is definitely the worst app I’ve ever used. There’s no way to exit PDFs when they open automatically, and it takes FOREVER just for Nelnet to switch from one page to the next. Not to mention I have an iPhone with a screen size that has been standard for 2.5 years and the buttons and app move all over my screen trying to get elements to fit correctly.

Horrible, just horrible—very lousy attempt at an app. It’s really just an oversimplified web browser with no navigation buttons. Every time you click on something you have to quit Nelnet and log back in in order to go back to the home page because their navigation buttons only appear on a few of the pages.

Sometimes Nelnet works and when it does it’s clunky but usable. Other times it just loads to a white screen and is totally unresponsive. If it does load you’ll notice that Nelnet is in a resolution that the iPhone hasn’t used in several years. Remember when the iPhone upped its resolution and older apps scaled the resolution and all of the fonts and everything looked larger? Remember how most developers fixed that within a couple of months? Well this one will bring back memories because it’s been over five years and they still scale their resolution. You’ll notice that IF you see anything at all, but don’t expect to. Most of the time I open Nelnet it’s a solid white screen and nothing more.

I don’t think I can cover how terrible Nelnet is in a single review, but I can try.

It’s not much more than a glorified clone of their web page, although it somehow has less functionality. It’s incredibly unintuitive to navigate and most of the time swipe gestures don’t work, which is odd since these should be baked into iOS without the developer needing to put in extra work.

Also viewing a pdf is a good way to force you to close Nelnet , since there is no way to exit the PDF. It’s like they were actively trying to make a terrible app when they put this out.

Nelnet makes you force close it and then log back in if you want to view documents.
Also, I thought for the past two months that I was making payments, turns out they haven’t been taking the taking the money out but when I try to edit my payment information Nelnet just freezes.

For a business that’s dedicated to taking people’s moneys, you would think they would make it easier to make a payment to them, but no, they make it difficult every single month. What a stupid, stupid thing to do.

Well, first it was crashing almost constantly, then it randomly kept logging me out (while I was using Nelnet ) and then finally it locked me out of my account because I've "attempted signing in to many times". Which... in reality I was just re-signing in the one time trying to complete my payment. I had to go on the computer. I literally could not complete one payment. Furthermore, this seems like a desktop view and not designed for mobile. I would give this negative stars if I could. Had they not made the old loan assist app not work I'd be using that. Nelnet is useless. I'm extremely disappointed.

I keep seeing people say the view document navigation works on their phone so it must be individual issues, but I've updated, uninstalled and reinstalled, I'm on the latest iOS, and there are still no navigation buttons when viewing statements. I actually came to Nelnet store to click App Support, but shockingly, that doesn't work either. Takes me to a broken link on the website. I actually chose this app to consolidate my loans with, and I find myself constantly disappointed. Nelnet "mostly" works, and auto payments show up as late payments until they're done processing. What a dumb system.

Do you know how frustrating it is to go to check your inbox and click on something and then not be able to get back to where you were... imagine driving down a alley and coming up to a brick wall, then not being able to reverse.... I do not go to the website I use Nelnet . I dont have regular access to a computer I have a phone. And if you have an app make it worth using because the frustration of it is ridiculous... why even make one if you don’t want to make it useable?? Seems kind of incompetent. I’d like an excuse this app I’m asking you directly.

Works for making payments unless you want to pay on a specific loan and not just the regular payment that is due. Also, I have to go through the “reset password” email process every single month just to make a payment because this is the only app that uses a password. Everything else either allows my phone to remember the password or uses fingerprint scan. Truly not an app, just a mobile bookmark for the website.

So the new app is just ok. On the old app there was a way to get out of a statement after you viewed it. Now you have to close Nelnet then log in again. Any time you view anything In the documents you have to close Nelnet to get to anything else not really that good if you want to go month by month since I only have online statements. Also an improvement to the log in being Touch ID would be great. This is one of the only things I have to log into without that.

Downloaded because I wanted something faster and more convenient than the website. However, this "app" is nothing more than a bookmark to the website honestly. You also have to sign in every time you want to use it, why not just let it remain logged into your account? If security the reason why not implement Touch ID for login like the Wells Fargo app? Also all the text is enlarged for some strange reason (including the phone status bar on top with the time, signal, etc.) there is no need for that to happen.

I've read many of the previous reviews and I see both sides. Overall it seems pretty good and appears to function as it should for the most part.(although I haven’t tested all features yet). However, when the inbox is opened and certain messages are checked, it does appear as a PDF and there is no way out other than to close app and restart. The welcome message page did allow to return but others have not. Also, it still said I have a message after I opened them all. If these issues were fixed I would rate higher.

I downloaded Nelnet despite the low review scores, because I saw that the developers recently made changes/updates to Nelnet . It appears that they fixed the document issues that people were having, because everything works great for me! I can see each loan group, documents, make a payment, and really anything Nelnet offers I’m able to access. It is also easy to navigate. Definitely recommend for anyone wanting to keep a close, quick eye on the status of their loans.

I'm in awe at some of the reviews on here stating there's no back button and having to exit out of Nelnet to get back in. There technically is no "back" button or arrow, but all you have to do to head to a different location is press the button of the location you want to go located at the bottom of the screen and then select the category or option that appears. Not sure why people have found that so difficult?
Nelnet does exactly what I needed it to do: make a timely payment in a convenient way. Also, you can access the statements and anything else as well.

Not sure what all the negative reviews are about. I have no issues with Nelnet . I can make payments, schedule payments, view my account details, etc. It seems that most reviews say that there’s no back button and/or that they can’t view documents. Sounds like maybe it’s a phone issue? I can view my documents (statements, tax forms, etc) just fine and there IS a back button. There’s also a menu on the bottom of the page to get to where you need to go when there isn’t a back button. Great app. I’d maybe recommend enabling Touch ID, but besides that, it works just fine.

I was very nervous downloading Nelnet due to bad reviews. I registered through my email and downloaded Nelnet and it's exactly the same thing. LOL. I'm that I looked to see if there was a app instead of going through my email address. It's going to take FOREVER to pay if these loans but I'm glad I can keep track and not get bad credit.
