Pretty good

I write this as a cis person. I use RefugeRestrooms to mark single-gender, unisex, or other safe bathroom spaces, for the people who need that knowledge more than me, and so my experience with RefugeRestrooms is mostly in adding restrooms, not in using the search function. It’s pretty easy to add a restroom to the database, and I like the options to mark if the facilities have changing tables or are wheelchair-accessible.

Don’t delete PLEASE.

PLEASE don’t take this off of iOS, we really need it and the website is too glitchy.

Great!

As a trans man I recommend. I was kinda skeptical of RefugeRestrooms before trying it but it’s really great. Stay safe out there guys!!!

Love this app!

I’m cisgender and never have any problems finding a restroom I can use. Today I was at a cafe, and they had a unisex restroom. My first thought was RefugeRestrooms, which I had heard about, never downloaded. After seeing the restroom, I immediately downloaded this and mapped the location.

RefugeRestrooms is very easy to use, doesn’t take much space on your phone, and it only takes a few minutes (at most) to map a restroom. To anyone considering downloading RefugeRestrooms: do it. Even if it won’t benefit you or anyone you know, do it to help someone in need. I live in a conservative area and can only imagine how frightening it must be to not be able to find a restroom you can safely use, without the risk of being harassed or getting in trouble. And to anyone trans, intersex, etc, RefugeRestrooms can help you find nearby restrooms safe for you to use. Even if there aren’t any restrooms mapped in your area, all you have to do is map any safe restrooms you can find.

App for ios is being discontinued

I got a pop up saying RefugeRestrooms was being discontinued but check out their webpage. It’s a fantastic resource!

So grateful that this app exists!!

I’ve been wanting/looking for something like this for YEARS! As a non-binary person, finding a safe feeling restroom while traveling is one of my biggest anxiety causers, and I know I’m not alone in this. This map is exactly what is needed to help us all feel more comfortable. And dang it, sometimes you just need to pee and not feel weird about it!!
My only technical problems are:
- that I can’t rate a restroom on RefugeRestrooms once it’s been added, only on the website,
- and, it appears that there are far more bathrooms listed on the website than on RefugeRestrooms .
Other than that, it’s excellent and thank you so much for creating this!

So helpful!!

As a transguy this is so helpful. I can pass reasonably well, but even then I always prefer a unisex restroom. Public restrooms without the crippling anxiety!

I would like to ask if an additional label could be added for use: While unisex restrooms are ideal, the next best option is always the single stall/one-person restrooms - which are very common in many restaurants where I live. Could you add a label for these? I’d like to be able to find these if there aren’t any unisex options.

Thank you and keep up the awesome work!!!

Great idea, a bit lacking in functionality

Love RefugeRestrooms , just wish it was a little more functional. It would be great if you could edit or delete erroneous posts. Plus, the map view in my area only shows ~4 locations, but in list view there are 100+. A lot of those are redundant though since the locations didn’t show in map view and got added multiple times. In my hometown, list view works fine since I know where everything is, but map view is crucial for travel, which is pretty much what RefugeRestrooms is for. As a trans guy in the awkward transition phase, I hope it becomes more functional soon!

This has historical precedent

RefugeRestrooms is a brilliant idea, and seems really well-executed!

It immediately made me think of the Green Book, published from 1938 to 1966, which guided black motorists in the United States in finding black-friendly businesses. The need to find a bathroom is simpler and arguably seems trivial by comparison, but it can be every bit as serious in some places. I’m very pleased to see the motorist’s Green Book tradition being continued where the need persists.

Fantastic with loads of potential, but there aren't enough entries to be useful yet.

This is a fantastic app, I'm super excited to see this reach it's fullest potential. I'm going on a trip to WDW in Orlando this April and thought it'd be perfect considering the recent transphobic bathroom laws being considered in Florida, but noticed there are no entries on property. I know for a fact that there are family restrooms there, so I'll gladly scout them out for any users thinking about visiting WDW on vacation.

Again, I love this concept, and it'll be a crutch for keeping me from hating myself until I'm well into the transitioning process.

Great app

RefugeRestrooms is a wonderful thing for me. It's saved me many times when I'm in an unfamiliar area, and I recommend downloading it. There are a few things that need to be added/improved, including a way to edit your added restrooms (I made a mistake with one). I hope to see RefugeRestrooms flesh out a little more with more features and improved interface screens, but in my experience it's a great app that can only get better.

Before I get the app

I just wanna say it's really great that this exists and should be advertised frequently. I'm getting RefugeRestrooms to add locations on to hopefully help others, seeing as I'm not actually transgender. I encourage anyone else reading this to do the same, because you have to actually mark the locations if nobody else has yet. I'll edit this if need be, but other than that, huge thank you to the creators of RefugeRestrooms!

So needed!

I’m a trans guy and I found RefugeRestrooms when in the midst of a freak out over whether a theater I was going to would have a safe bathroom. They didn’t, but I found several nearby spots.
I’m on the road all the time for work, and have to find new public restrooms weekly. It’s great to be able to look here, and to enter new spots I find for other folks trying to find a place to pee in peace.

Great app! Use it and make it even better!

RefugeRestrooms is super helpful. It's naturally more useful in some places than others, but you can change that by using RefugeRestrooms and adding to the database. I've even shared with close friends and family so they can do the same. Thanks for putting this out there for us! It makes traveling so much less stressful.

Happy but Frustrated

I was hoping the update would fix some of the prevalent issues with RefugeRestrooms, and was disappointed to see that they weren't. For example, I have an iPhone 4, and am not able to scroll down to view comments about a large number of the restrooms. I'm not sure if this is because RefugeRestrooms was designed for a larger phone, but it is quite frustrating. RefugeRestrooms is such a great concept and is functional, however frustrating.

Best app ever

Identifying as a trans man makes using public restrooms a little more stressful than the average cis person experiences. I pass pretty well, but it's always less stressful to be able to use gender neutral bathrooms so I don't have to worry at all. RefugeRestrooms has saved me so much anxiety. I can't stop talking to all of my friends about it! Thank you!!!

Great but I have a few ideas

I love RefugeRestrooms . A few things that would be great would be the option to sign in to post (and be able to edit them.) Next, to add comments and pictures. Example, being one lock doesn't work. Or something to that nature. I like to make sure I'm gonna be safe and what to expect when I'm gonna have to go. Rather hold it then go in a high traffic area and risk getting hurt.

It's not working anymore?

It's a fantastic app, but for some reason it's no longer functional for me. Either I open RefugeRestrooms and all it is is a pitch black screen, or it opens and immediately closes again. I've tried uninstalling then reinstalling RefugeRestrooms , but I don't know if this is just a problem for me or what. It's essential for me and my safety so if it doesn't work it's not all that great...

So Important!

RefugeRestrooms is so important. I myself am I cis woman, but I have many trans friends. Bathrooms are a huge struggle for them. The fact that RefugeRestrooms exists to help the trans community feel safe is so important especially in this day and age. Things are getting better for the trans community, but we're still fighting.

Lacks features and app support is questionable

Doesn't let you report a wrong posting. Around my home there is one listing that has the wrong address. The address it shows is miles away from where the pin is.

Too bad because it looks like an app with lots of potential. Even though I am intersex and don't identify as transgender or transsexual, I know a few of them and how important an app such as this is.

It would be nice to see RefugeRestrooms grow but it seems that others are complaining about a lack of support. Sad!
