Bare bones but works

NOTE: This is a review purely based on what eBookRenta provides and not on Renta! as a service. I think their website is much better and as a publisher they have great releases.

I only use eBookRenta to have the manga available offline. It’s tedious to get your purchased manga onto eBookRenta since you have to log in to the Renta website in a browser on your device and go to your books and select ‘download’ from there, which will open eBookRenta and download what you’ve selected. The real tedium comes in because of the fact that Renta does releases by the chapter. This means you have to go back and forth between your browser and eBookRenta and individually download each chapter to eBookRenta . Each download also auto opens when it’s downloaded which isn’t bad when your downloading one thing but is annoying when you’re just trying to load up a bunch of purchases to eBookRenta .

Since other reviews were confused, to close out of a manga and go back to the bookshelf, you have to tap the middle of the screen and some options will appear at the bottom of the screen. You have to be careful not to tap too close to the edges of the screen or you’ll just turn the page.

Not very user friendly

Navigating through eBookRenta is a bit awkward/tedious, and downloading books to your bookshelf seems more complicated than needs to be. I’ve figured it out for the most part, but it’s definitely not smooth. Hell, I still can’t figure out how to exit out of reading a manga, I have to close eBookRenta completely to get back to my main screen. Can I make it work? Yep. Is it a pain? Also yep.

Horrible User Interface

The user interface is horrible. It is not user friendly at all and is practically useless. eBookRenta is meant to be something convenient, used instead of the website itself. eBookRenta is worse than something I would turn in for my computer science classes. The service of Renta itself is great but eBookRenta is not.

First, you have to go to the website itself to download each title one by one - defeating the purpose of eBookRenta all together. Having to go back and forth between the browser and eBookRenta is extremely inconvenient as well.

Second, you cannot view the titles you own from eBookRenta unless you download them from the website.

Third, once you get to the end of a title there is nothing significant indicating that such as showing an end page, returning you to the home page, or exiting the reader.

Fourth, you can’t even purchase a title within eBookRenta .

If this were to be an app of any true worth it should function like the website. You should be able to sign into your account, see which titles you own, easily download them from eBookRenta to read without internet, purchase new titles, etc.

eBookRenta truly feels and functions like a class project. I’m very dissatisfied and disappointed.

Is there a way to give negative stars?

Have been buying manga from Renta for years. This application was always clunky, but it worked. At best was 3 stars in past. Currently zero stars, because you can longer download book to the application to read off line. Maybe there is some new secret way to do it, but I don’t know how. The website is still telling you to press the download button next to the book you want to download in the “my books” section. However, There is no longer a download button on any of the books. They should pull this application as it does nothing at all.

.... I would like to use it

I would not mind purchasing tickets off of eBookRenta, however eBookRenta itself is difficult to use. You can’t rent things off of it, and it has a limited time of usage. I would like to re-read chapters or a whole series but it can be costly. It is still a bit unorganized, since you have to go to browser and then go back to app to read a book. It also does not have a direct link to open browser from eBookRenta , and to look it up on your browser you never know which website to trust.

Can’t download manga

eBookRenta has an awful interface. It says on there that you can download manga that you bought, but that isn’t even an option on the website. How come you can’t access everything on eBookRenta ? You should make it so you login to your account on eBookRenta and see everything. It should be like other manga apps. I’m gonna try to find another way to download the manga I bought ‘cause it’s ridiculous that I have to only read it on the web browser..

Extremely hard to use

Very roundabout and confusing to use. To buy stuff you gotta go on pc or mobile, but you can’t download via pc only mobile, you have to download one at a time, the chapters don’t get sorted in eBookRenta , it’s very hard to close out of a chapter. All just terrible to use, makes me not even want to use eBookRenta anymore and just read via pc but that is trash too. And to top it all off the books won’t load half of the time.

Easy To Use

I haven’t had any problems with eBookRenta . Just go to your bookshelf on Renta’s website in a web browser and download directly from there to eBookRenta (make sure it’s installed on your device first). My ipad mini is perfect for reading the manga I’ve purchased this way. :D

App will not open!!!! 😩

I tried to open eBookRenta 5x and it loads like will launch and then exits out to home screen. I have downloaded a few books from my account to read and it was fine the last time I used it...not sure what happened?? Please fix the loading issues on eBookRenta . If it would open would be top ratings, but since can’t open app is unusable.

App needs work

I’ve had to delete and redownload eBookRenta multiple times to try and load my books and it still doesn’t want to open my books. It keeps trying to load them after I’ve already opened them before. Please fix.

I love ebook renta website but their app is garbage!

2018! Taking tons of money per chapter and they can't make a simple software that is userfriendly and easy to use! Meanwhile free manga websites like webtoon and webcomics are like second nature to use and navigate! I spent more than 80 dollars on your manga! The logic thing is I can read them on my computer and on eBookRenta, so why I don't see my books! eBookRenta is.a digrace to the japqnese pride! Make it user friendly or delete this-useless app already!

Hmmm

Are y’all serious or am I being pranked?

So once you get to a certain number you can’t even change put the old books for new ones. Now it’s just full of old books and useless.

It was ok when it was working.

Can no longer download bought books!! Rip off

I am beyond upset. Previously I’d go to the Renta website and buy my books and their app download the books on my IPad. I CAN NO LONGER download the books I paid for onto my iPad. Instead I HAVE TO GO TO THE WEBSITE AND STREAM THEM.
This is fraud. A customer doesn’t always have net access. I loved being able to download and keep books on my iPad. Can’t believe this company did this.

Limited manga

It has limited manga and even when you read the manga it won’t allow me to read the other episodes.

App Updates

I really love Renta! online but if they had an app that would be even better! The current version of eBookRenta isn’t user friendly, doesn’t allow you to sign in, look at new books, or anything else. Having to go to my browser all the time can be a hassle so please update eBookRenta soon! 😭

By

This is awful app...

My God eBookRenta is horrible! It doesn’t sort out ur chapters for you, u can’t even close the manga without pressing over and over to try to get the EXIT button to pop up! eBookRenta is insane! Doesn’t even make me wanna rent stuff Bc I have to deal with it! Ugh! With all the money they make, you would think they would better this! Just use the browser! Ugh!

Tried for all of 2 minutes

App is more klunky than a beater car in a demo derby. Nothing but previews available on eBookRenta and you can’t transfer titles from PC to mobile. No way to search for specific titles, organize chapters, or anything that you’d expect from any app like this. Would give ZERO stars if I could!

By

Unusable

There’s no filter feature to find what you want, and there’s not even a search bar to look up specific titles. From the looks of it, they don’t have enough titles to even justify having a filter feature...

Worst manga/webtoon app

eBookRenta leaves so much to be desired. It simply is for reading manga you download but honestly, you might as well go on the website via the browser on your phone. I wish I could just buy and rent manga with this apt cause then it’d have utility but I cannot

By

Not working

I don’t know what’s going on, but I tried three different ways to log into eRenta thru Safari so I can download my purchased manga, and no matter where I go I cannot find the download button. So it’s basically useless to me

By

Huh?

eBookRenta is extremely confusing compared to the desktop/mobile site. There’s no way to sign into your account and the selection of manga is extremely limited here. Don’t download eBookRenta ; stick to your browser for now.

By

Download is not an option anymore on site

According to the renta website, I have the most up to date version of the iOS app but the button to download to eBookRenta is missing on the site when on my iPad.

By

Not good

I downloaded eBookRenta so I could purchase “he’s a predator” but there is no search option and that manga wasn’t on the front page.

By

Can’t download full versions directly

I thought eBookRenta would allow me to download manga without having to use the browser, but that’s not the case, which is unfortunate. Therefore I have no use for it.

By

App is Terrible

eBookRenta is terrible. You can’t search for manga in anyway, and when you finish a preview, it defaults back to the top of the list

By

Too costly.

One manga I wanted to read came out to $180. Nearly as much as if I’d bought it in book form. Too much.
