IBM Broke it, and Refuses to Fix It

IBM took over IBMMicromedexDrugInfo from the original developer over 7 months ago, and has made no attempt to fix the problem they have created... One of the advantages of IBMMicromedexDrugInfo (mobile version) is that the medication information is constantly updated. What they don’t tell you is that ever since IBM took over, each time medications are updated (every few days), the update breaks IBMMicromedexDrugInfo and only displays one medication, no matter which medication you select. THIS MAKES IBMMicromedexDrugInfo DANGEROUS FOR PATIENTS, MEDICAL STAFF, AND ANYONE USING IBMMicromedexDrugInfo . I am an RN, and I rely on IBMMicromedexDrugInfo for looking up drug side effects for my patients. Since IBMMicromedexDrugInfo breaks each time it is updated, someone might select Morphine (for example), but would actually be reading the side effects for Vitamin C. VERY DANGEROUS. The only way to make IBMMicromedexDrugInfo work correctly is to delete it each time there is an update, reinstall it, then re-enter your user name and password. What a pain. If medical personnel don’t know about this bug, they can do medication errors, which can affect patient safety, and risk the person’s medical license. I have been calling the developer for almost a year about this problem, but all they say is that they are aware of it. They have never bothered to fix it, which means IBMMicromedexDrugInfo is USELESS, and DANGEROUS! BUY SOMETHING ELSE THAT IS SAFE, AND ACTUALLY WORKS.

Broken Now

I’m a pharmacist who used to use IBMMicromedexDrugInfo as an alternative to more expensive drug information databases. It was helpful for when I’m away from my computer and with patients or when people asked me questions when I’m not at work.

A recent bug that other users have mentioned has rendered IBMMicromedexDrugInfo useless. It works fine when you download it at first. When IBMMicromedexDrugInfo updates once, it gets stuck on the last drug that was searched. The only way to look up a new drug is to delete IBMMicromedexDrugInfo and re-download. There’s also a bug where all headings within the drug’s page pull up the same information. Currently, information for the “dosing and indications” tab pulls up when you open all other tabs. The interactions database appears to work fine.

IBM needs to fix this before they lose all their users. I’m upgrading to a better database.

Used to use it daily

I used to cherish IBMMicromedexDrugInfo and I’ve been using it for years and happily paying the fee. This most recent update has changed the layout/the simplicity of using IBMMicromedexDrugInfo so much I’m really disappointed by it.. I no longer can use it as a quick reference tool that was easy to maneuver .. now there’s so much to weed through and this “chunky extra” that I haven’t really found to add anything of value . Just my two cents.. I’m not sure if I’ll renew when it expires. I must say I have been a huge fan of IBMMicromedexDrugInfo for many years prior to this update and have easily given it 5 stars in the past.

Nurse

I have been using IBMMicromedexDrugInfo since nursing school, & still use it today. The best part is the organization. I frequently search for class, adverse effects, side effects, clinical teaching, and interactions. I love how they keep it updated. Had to give it 4 stars due to being frustrated when not updating it right away & becoming locked out, other than that I love it & hope it stays cheap or even free for healthcare providers, because I don’t remember paying for it when I first got it (but could be wrong).

The Best!

This is the best app for medications. The information contained is curated. Other programs will have long lists of side effects that end up looking the same because the list of side effects list every imaginary side effect. Micromedex’s list is clinically relevant. It is quick, easy to use and best of all it is recognized as one of the authoritative resources for non-FDA uses of medications when fighting for PAs.

Rip-off

I’ve used IBMMicromedexDrugInfo for years, with complete satisfaction. I renewed in May, and one month later they notified me IBMMicromedexDrugInfo was getting ready to expire. They have now locked me out of IBMMicromedexDrugInfo .

I contacted support and they resolved the issue quickly. I’m back to being a happy user.

Do not purchase this app!! Theft

I began usage several years ago and all was well. Great reference for me and all of the physicians in my hospitals(22).
I’ve now had four crashes of IBMMicromedexDrugInfo , repurchased it three times only to have it get stuck on the last drug searched . Customer service gave the same solution each time: delete, re-download , fill in password but not email address to recover or reset a password ( makes NO sense), and after doing that three times, I’m done with any of these apps. You have to repurchase it.
I am a VP of Medical Affairs/ CMO of 22 hospitals and over all pharmacies for them.
I am now directing all reports to me and all medical staff to delete IBMMicromedexDrugInfo and use another app which I will suggest.
It’s a shame to have something this simple to fix derail your product.
Terminate your app developers.

Filled with bugs

Crashes and filled with bugs. When I try to look up drug information e.g. roflumilast it just brought up the dosage form under all the categories. Many better drug applications available. At this time I would avoid.

Completely broken

First off, IBMMicromedexDrugInfo makes it a hassle to use it at all (“restore purchase” issues for the subscription you have to pay for to use IBMMicromedexDrugInfo at all.) Once that problem is solved, however, it still doesn’t work. I’ve reinstalled multiple times and it’s stuck only showing me the info for the last drug I successfully looked up, not the one I’m currently searching. So, it’s useless. Too bad; it used to be a good resource.

Mayo Clinic doc- this app has become trash

I used to love using IBMMicromedexDrugInfo in the clinical setting. Unfortunately it’s become rife with bugs. Now when I try to create a userID and password I get an error stating that my password and/or userID is incorrect- how is this possible when I’m creating a new account? I end up in an endless recursive loop of sheer hell and am no longer able to use IBMMicromedexDrugInfo anymore. I’m very disappointed to see that IBM is creating such an unpolished and buggy app.

This *used* to be amazing

I began using IBMMicromedexDrugInfo years ago. When it was free. Well, times change and they began charging for it. Think I paid less than $2.00 for what was portrayed as a year’s subscription to IBMMicromedexDrugInfo. With so many updates to medicines, two bucks is still a great deal for as much as I use IBMMicromedexDrugInfo! But then things went south. IBMMicromedexDrugInfo started to crash constantly. Pretty soon it just quit opening, period. Shame. Was a great app.

Impossible to use now that it’s been bought again.

I don’t know what changed the good juju for IBMMicromedexDrugInfo, and despite the fact that I’ve paid yearly, I’ve had other issues that up till now I’ve tolerated. Today’s pain in the neck is that IBMMicromedexDrugInfo won’t take my passwords again! But based on the comments I’ve read, and my loss of patience, I’m going to look at all the other mobile med apps and consider changing.

Pure frustration

I’ve liked it for several years. Whatever they have done, I can’t get into it anymore and support has been poor thus far. I’ve spent 3+ hours being frustrated. Thank goodness I’m mostly retired. My actively practicing daughter’s account is similarly screwed for several weeks, but she is waiting for me to wade through the “issues “.

Good for tox

The interface could you some work, but this is the best resource I have found for toxicology information in the emergency room. I had to delete and re-download IBMMicromedexDrugInfo after updating to iOS 12.

By

Broken

I’ve subscribed to IBMMicromedexDrugInfo for years and have been nothing but happy with its performance. But now, with this latest update several months ago, whenever I look up a drug, I can’t view the information. It’s stuck on one drug.
I’ll change and improve my review when you give me my subscription money back pro rated.

Great app!

I use IBMMicromedexDrugInfo frequently as I am a retail pharmacist. It is a great resource and I have never had any issues with it!

By

Helpful app, easy to understand

It’s a great reference to quickly access the drug information I need.

By

Does not have IV compatibility

No option to see IV compatibility when needing to Y-tube meds on the fly. Worthless for ICU setting

By

Best in toxicology rotation on call

I strongly recommend it for all emergency residents
All what you need in toxicology information will find in IBMMicromedexDrugInfo

No longer usable

I used to use IBMMicromedexDrugInfo daily at work, but I’m no longer able to login. This has been an issue for at least a couple of months now. I pay a yearly fee to use IBMMicromedexDrugInfo so I’d expect the issue to be taken care of, but it’s still unaddressed. Disappointed.
