I adore this app, but it is not working!

2024-11-15

BookofCommonPrayer has been a staple for me over the past few years. BookofCommonPrayer has been so helpful to have in this form since it is easier to use than the website on my phone and I don’t have to lug the hard copy around to use the morning, midday, and evening prayers. I work with college students and I love that I can introduce them to this book and these prayers without making them shell out extra money that they don’t have laying around.

But now, BookofCommonPrayer only shows a black screen. I am so disappointed. I hope this can be fixed and I would be happy to change my review!

I don’t feel good about this app

2024-11-15

First, this book and app obviously (um, blatantly) appropriate the centuries old tradition of the Episcopal and Anglican Books of Common Prayer. I “might” feel okay about that (there is no copyright on the BCPs), except that Shane Claiborne, the hipster minister behind this book and app, considers LGBTQ people to be inherently broken, and our loving relationships unworthy of the dignity and respect of marriage.

So, I wish I could like BookofCommonPrayer and book. On the surface, it’s pretty good (I’m giving it 2 stars, not 1). And, I’m glad to see evangelicalists beginning to explore ancient Christian liturgical traditions.

But, having learned Shane Claiborne does not affirm LGBTQ equality, I cannot like his book and app, now knowing they are made in service to the anti-gay agenda by which evangelicalists have come - as the fruit of their own actions - to be defined.

Out of self respect, I’m deleting it.

Splendid, but needs an update

2024-11-15

Lovely book-to-app transition that makes morning prayers with neighbors even easier. I would love to give this four or five stars. Five if a couple options were implemented (like creating calendar events for morning prayers, or changing the bottom menu icon color from bright green)

Major Problem: BookofCommonPrayer has not been updated for the iPhone X. Than doesn’t just mean it’s not full screen... in addition to that, the bottom navigation bar renders halfway off the screen. With all future iPhones following the X’s display format, this will need to be updated soon.

It’s back. Oh, wait. It’s kind of back?

2024-11-15

We have several hardback copies of Common Prayer for our home church, but BookofCommonPrayer is also used. It’s good to see it back.

One of the main uses for BookofCommonPrayer is hearing the music—often there are tons of versions of hymns, and it’s nice to have the examples in BookofCommonPrayer to help us.

Only issue? If you go to “Choose Date” it crashes BookofCommonPrayer .

Sound?

2024-11-15

I really enjoy BookofCommonPrayer but I find the sound to be inconsistent. I do not have it muted and I can listen to the introduction video but when I switch to the day’s prayer, the sound no longer works. Any ideas? Thanks.

Love this app

So happy to get BookofCommonPrayer back on my iPhone. It was off BookofCommonPrayer Store for a while and I couldn’t get on my iPhone after having to restore it.

I’m young and was able to grow up in going to modern megachurches most of my youth. As I’ve gotten a little older (mid 20s) I’ve started to fall in love of the tradition of mainline Christianity. Having the Common Book of Prayer always on me is wonderful.

BookofCommonPrayer is no frills. It does what it says it does and that’s it. No extra fussing around. I love it.

Nothing Common About This App!

2024-11-15

I have used BookofCommonPrayer for so many years and still find myself being challenged by the content. The prayers have guided me to stop and pray during the day, and help me to focus my heart each morning. The afternoon and evening prayers bring me peace in the repetition of the liturgy. Thank you so much for creating and supporting this technological “Paraclete” that encourages me as I lead a congregation. — Rev Paula Steinbacher

Reminder built in

2024-11-15

My favorite part of BookofCommonPrayer is I can set a reminder for morning midday and evening. Everything is set up for these readings. I LOVE "pass the peace". It is teaching my children to embrace one another and to respond to scripture and in prayer. History and saints' writings included. Love it!

Wish it were available for iPad, and that my friends could get it on their platforms.

I have the book but this is so much easier to use!

2024-11-15

I've been looking for an app like this for so long! It is great all around but my favorite features are the song book (I want to use it to teach my kids these great hymns) and the biographies. Highly recommend!

So easy to use; so vital to pray!!!

2024-11-15

I love using BookofCommonPrayer. It brings me closer to what church is all about. I thank BookofCommonPrayer folks who put this together. I’ve been a fan of the book for several years now and just discovered it in app form. Thank you so much!!! It has brought me closer to God.

A Wonderful Spiritual Tool

2024-11-15

BookofCommonPrayer is designed to do so much more than serve as a daily prayer guide. It touches base with sharing elements of Christian history, takes you through the Bible following the lectionary, and even shares a snippet of sacred music. It will truly enhance your prayer life and your daily walk with God!

Simple and Easy to Use

2024-11-15

Great app! Not only is the format and navigation simple, the text and daily readings are short enough to allow introspective time and pause in ones day. Thank you.

Great app

2024-11-15

Love everything. A Simple app that does all it is supposed to. However it would be cool to have an art commentary about the different images that come up for each month.

Thank You

I am Episcopalian and use your app along with our Daily Office because your prayers offer insight into topics from contemporary and specific events that may not be touched upon in our daily office. Well done!

Love it

I'm in a small group reading Dietrich Bonhoeffer's Life Together. He outlines a daily liturgy. I found the way that Scripture including psalms along with hymns and even church history are all accessible in BookofCommonPrayer helps me spend time daily with God.
