Paid no magazine

2022-05-23

Bought thru iTunes I wasn’t getting my issues but they were taking the money from my account every month. Customer support was slim to none when asking for help with the issue. When finally getting in contact with someone through email due to no number being available I was only refunded 1 month with issues I had paid for still asking me for payment before I could download. I reached out numerous times to only be ignored. Thanks Jellisa iTunes customer support. Would not purchase anything through iTunes in the future.

Crash and burn

2022-06-24

I would love to subscribe to this, if only I could read more than two pages without crashing. I might even be satisfied if I could consistently read one page, without crashing as soon as I attempt to flip to it via the index at the bottom of the screen.

Crashing constantly

2022-07-25

I hope to see an update soon. LinuxFormat has crashed repeatedly while I have been trying to read the issue.

Cannot download content

2022-08-26

Since January I cannot download any issues and cannot login anymore, despite having reset my password. The magazine content itself is great but the mymagazine account and their support is not satisfying. I paid for the magazine but cannot read it:-(

Terrible attempt at a mobile app

2022-09-27

I've had a subscription to your printed Linux Format magazine and I've bought it off the shelf at book stores. This digital copy is far less expensive than buying it off a bookseller's shelf (usually around $15 USD) and as a print subscription ($125 USD for 13 issues), which I appreciate.

However, the actual iPhone/iPad app leaves a lot to be desired. The UI is terrible. There is no integration with Safari, to easily navigate to a web link. The advertisement space is annoying in the mobile environment and takes up way too much real estate. The image resolution is questionable, at best.

Finally, had I known there would not be any way to get the disks, included with the printed edition and that I would not have access to the web site, as I do with a print subscription, I never would have subscribed to it via LinuxFormat Store. I can tell you this much, I will not renew, until these options are made available. Nice to see the disclaimers have now been added to LinuxFormat , in LinuxFormat store, but not before I had already signed up for 6 months.

Don't buy through apple!!!!!

2022-10-28

This would have been a 5-star review. However:
If you buy your subscription through iTunes (for full price), you can only read your issues on Apple-branded hardware. If you create an account on their website, and buy that way, you can then sign in and read on anything. Support won't even be sympathetic, let alone fix the issue. I don't think I need to point out the irony in a magazine about Linux that doesn't work on Linux.
Second, despite the fact that I have an active subscription, and all of the back issues, LinuxFormat keeps bombarding me with offers to buy the back issues I already own.

As I mentioned, this is a 5-star app, but since neither the publisher nor Apple will fess up to how badly you're getting screwed by buying this way, I thought I'd try to save at least one other person from this debacle.

tl;dr: DO NOT BUY MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTIONS THROUGH APPLE IF YOU OWN ANY NON-APPLE DEVICES!!!!!!

Do not subscribe or buy from them

2022-11-29

Future Plc makes terrible magazine app. It is almost impossible to get a subscription from them that will work on more than one device (iPhone and iPad). They seem to make you purchase the magazines more than once if you want to read it on your iPhone and iPad. You are better off subscribing to their pdf format...at least with that you can read on a PC and multiple devices.

no bookmarking?

2022-12-30

i have downloaded some of the back issues (for IPAD) as i've enjoyed reading this magazine at the store but it's too expensive to purchase in North America (at the bookstore). However, LinuxFormat isn't user friendly as there is no way to bookmark or favorite an article or page on LinuxFormat . Also, when you go back into LinuxFormat after leaving or turning off your ipad, you open up at page one of the magazine again, so have to scroll through the magazine again to find where you've left off. This is again where the favorites/bookmarking feature would really help. Other magazines on IPAD have this feature but this one doesn't, which is surprising. It keeps an otherwise great magazine from being truly enjoyable.

Excellent magazine, app leaves a lot to be desired

2023-01-31

LinuxFormat feels more like a purpose built PDF viewer more than a "magazine app". It leaves a lot to be desired. Bookmarking would be awesome, trying to download back issues or restoring subscriptions can be painful.

The content of the magazine is excellent and I love reading Linux Format. Would like a more interactive experience, maybe a font enlarging feature other than just page zooming, but I understand that may be a lot of extra work that a small magazine team wouldn't have the appropriate resources to do that.

My star rating is strictly rating LinuxFormat and not the magazine content. Content gets 5 stars hands down. Thank you for a great magazine

Ok but need high res pictures

2023-03-04

I love this magazine and wanted to subscribe via my iPad. But the low resolution on screenshots is a deal breaker for me. The text and layout is great but if I zoom in to take a look at a screenshot then it is a blurry mess that is unreadable. Considering this magazine is full of screenshots of applications and terminal commands this is kind of important. If you include full resolution screenshots then you will have an instant yearly subscription purchase from me. I seriously don't mind if the files are larger size just increase the screenshot quality. pretty please with a cheery on top.

Its ok but...

2023-04-02

No option to save articles to evernote.
ok., i read a good article about how to solve something but now i want to save it for later use - no option .:-(

Good

Great magazine

Very informative

2023-06-04

Just getting started with Linux but this mag is very helpful.

Interesting

2023-07-06

Being a newbie I find the content interesting full information things to learn about. I have Linux Mint 19.3 on several computers and on one I have Linux 20, my only wish was a simply upgrade feature a newbie could use as Windows 10 has.

Great

2023-08-06

I have never had LinuxFormat crash. I also love the content.

My favorite Linux magazine

2023-09-07

This British mag is simply the best source for news, reviews, coding projects and information about all flavors of Linux!

Excellent ePub app

2023-10-09

Linux Journal has done a fantastic job with their ePub implementation and I love and use just about all the available formats including the iOS app. It rocks on the iPad and is very convenient on the iPhone for reading anywhere I am.

Awesome, but needs something...

2023-11-09

I am a loyal subscriber to LXF, and I have loved every issue. I use an iPad more often than I have the opportunity to carry my bookbag around, so it would be GREAT if subscribers like me had a free digital subscription. Other than that, the best mag I am subscribed to!

A great resource for most anything Linux!

2023-12-11

I used to run to my local brick & mortar bookstore to get these magazines as soon as the new issue was available. Then I found this wonderful app. Now for much less I get the current issue and don't have to do anything besides open LinuxFormat .

Outstanding visual presentation on iPad.

2024-01-11

Excellent content, and it looks fantastic on my iPad. I’m enjoying the back issues too for not that much cost since I got them all.
