🏷️ About:
The ALPA Part 117 Flight Time Duty Time calculator assists pilots in determining their rest period, max duty day and max flight time based on individual criteria entered by the pilot. The App also includes the FAR Part 117 Regulation and ALPA’s Part 117 Guide.
App crashes every time I try to open it. For a while it was working fine, now it doesn’t work at all. Prior to consistently crashing, about four months of data vanished. Useless now. Iphone X ios 12. Tried deleting app and reinstalling...didn’t fix the issue.
Terrible app

ALPAPart117Calculator crashes or must be re-booted several times. My dues money should buy a better app.
Wow, this app was not designed by a crew member!!!

First of all - get rid of the freaking rolling wheels to enter block times!!! Give us a simple keyboard with a “next” key to go from entry field to entry field.
Get rid of the default “STX” airport in the departure airport field! Can’t tell you how annoying it is to have to erase something before entering the airport I.D.
Next, if ALPAPart117Calculator is going to survive, you’ve got to implement a way that we can edit legs flown after they are saved for a flight duty period. Otherwise, how can you project if the time flown so far will conflict with your next projected flights? Someone really didn’t think this through.
Next, when all flight legs are entered for a FDP they are displayed in reverse order, as in the last flight first. My suggestion is to have them displayed in chronological order.
I like others echo my disappointment with ALPAPart117Calculator - we’ve known about these changes for so long and this is the best ALPA can do? Next to be fixed fast, or I won’t hesitate to delete it.
Complicated app that is not intuitive. App sometimes does not calculate after you input data.
I’ll stick to using the Guide to FAR 117 publication.
Waste of time

Another ALPA failure. Why are we supporting ALPA national with our paychecks? Complete waste of time and 2% of MY paycheck down the toilet. We required a last minute FAR117 calculation prior to push... Thanks for nothing ALPA!
Doesn't Work

After iOS 13, app crashes while imputing flight data. Now worthless. Needs a fix ASAP. I expect more from “my union”

Hello ALPA, we pay you millions of dollars a year in dues and this is the best you can do? Almost worse than the Company’s IT department. Time for a significant upgrade. There also should be an easy place to set the time you came off your last 30 hours of rest and calculate the 168 hours.
Not sure what happened recently, but ALPAPart117Calculator keeps logging me out. I’m not sure why I should have to log in with my ALPA credentials to use a simple duty time calculator anyway, but if you don’t have the login details handy nor an internet connection it’s basically useless.
Bad app

The last update caused all the scales to disappear. So you can’t set date or time zone. Needs to get fixed

Overall, I like ALPAPart117Calculator . It makes Part 117 easy to understand, and makes it easy to track your times. However, it lacks one feature which seems obvious to me, which is the ability to edit your duty period end time.
You can edit the START time — you can start logging after you've already started your day, and, like when you're setting an alarm, the spinning wheels with the numbers on them pop up so you can enter your start time. However, the only way to conclude your duty period is to push the button at the exact moment you want it to end. I'm having a hard time with this. I'm either putting an airplane to bed or calling crew scheduling, or running for a hotel shuttle. It's difficult to remember and be able to push that button at the exact right minute. I would love to see the spinning numbers pop up, so I can be sure to get the right time in, even if I forgot to push the button at the exact moment I went off duty.
And worse, once you DO push the button, it locks the data for that duty period, so it can no longer be edited. This means you have to have all of your times in there completely and accurately before you push the button. If you don't, your data will be worthless.
As I mentioned, there's a lot going on as I'm finishing up my day, and having to do this on the spot and at the exactly correct moment SERIOUSLY limits ALPAPart117Calculator's usability and usefulness.
Big improvement

The crashing of ALPAPart117Calculator has improved dramatically on the iPhone 5. The functionality of the pop up directions on ALPAPart117Calculator is a great improvement and help me understand what time zone to work from when flying internationally. I would like to be able to program scheduled flights (and maybe I can and I just don't understand the program) in the future to see where my restrictions are at. Right now best I can tell is I can only look one leg in advance. My legs are 3-13 hrs long and having the ability to forecast would be a great improvement!
Works now

Write ALPAPart117Calculator so pilot could use flight plan info to calculate latest time off for duty time. Scheduled departure and arrival is usually legal ( ALPAPart117Calculator calculates this). But delayed departure with known flight time, debrief etc. is what ALPAPart117Calculator should calculate. (it does not calculate it without a new flight plan, usually not the case for delayed departure). Current form is not useful.
October 2021. I tried ALPAPart117Calculator again after seeing other pilot to use, and it appears to work well. The questions and answers are good, please add simple link to this page in ALPAPart117Calculator . Also, it appears that entering in local time is easier to understand, simple conversion should be explain (like the one in the FAQ), e.g. ATL based (eastern time zone) reporting in SEA at 07:00 (pacific time zone), enter 10:00 - local ATL time at report. Thanks for improving and working on ALPAPart117Calculator .
Guys... I was initially as frustrated as you were with the initial app, lacking the ability to log flight time in Zulu and not being able to anchor a base time zone - the whole idea behind 117. It was a very confusing app with good potential. However, the latest update has drastically improved ALPAPart117Calculator, allowing for pilots to set a base time zone and log in Zulu (changes made under Settings). This equates to less math conversion and less confusion overall. Also, I was glad to see that my previous flight data was saved when I updated ALPAPart117Calculator - good tutorial as well (bottom right). Also liked the added ability to edit past entries - much more flexibility this time around. Glad I hit the "update" button!
