First I have no idea why people think this should free. These are top quality magazines that I usually have to wait to buy in the bookstore. They are also about half the newsstand price and now I can have digital copy's to take with me everywhere.
I've been reading bike mags for 30 years and these have been my favorites for some time. It's just excellent that I can buy and read them this way.

First, I'll address the poor reviews: part of using newsstand apps is that the actual content that you're after in the first place isn't always free. Did you expect a quality magazine to all of a sudden put out a free app with all their content ever, also for free? Go write your own magazine and put it out for free.
This is a simple app that allows the extremely well-done design of the magazine, photos, and generally well-written articles to come through. I'll qualify this in that I've only experienced on my iPhone but would expect this stuff looks extra fantastic on an iPad and of course more readable on a larger screen. I'm not one to buy every issue or get a subscription, but as of Oct 2011 they provided the Sept. issue for free as a trial, and $5 for a nicely put together mag is not that big of a deal. I guess it is if you're used to getting all you want from a free or $1.99 app. Quality content = making an investment.

ProcyclingMagazine itself works great, the content is excellent, and it displays beautifully on the iPad. I believe the price per is about half the newsstand cost, definitely worth it...and I don't expect the good folks at Procycling to work for free.

The coverage and insight of the pro road scene both current and the sport's history is top shelf. The writing is creative and the photography and design are well done. ProcyclingMagazine itself though can be a bit temperamental. Sorting out the occasional bugs of ProcyclingMagazine and this becomes a perfect find for those who have a passion for road cycling.

One of the best cycling magazines now available on my iPad. Looks great, works great and all at half of the usual price I'd pay for the magazine.

It crashes. It is very clumsy still to manipulate the pages even on a big iPad. And it has a terrible font for screen reading. So there is a huge room for improvement technically. The content makes it worth the pain.

Terrific content and photos. Love the magazine and would rate it 4 or 5 stars except it is poorly formatted for reading on the IPad. Changes are hopefully on the way soon as I purchased a year and will not renew without substantial change.
