Cruelty-free matters!

Only recently did I learn how cruelly animals are tortured and abused in laboratories, and it truly breaks my heart to see them hurt and malnourished, without a glimpse of grass, sunlight, and even human contact. With this app, I can easily spot whether a brand is cruelty free or vegan, and it surprised me to find out that many of the brands that I used to use tested on animals. Not anymore! It’s so helpful with bookmarks, and it alerts you if a company is part of a bigger brand that tests on animals, and they’re open to feedback and adding new brands to the list. The only thing that confuses me are the gray-area companies, which aren’t proven to test on animals or be cruelty free. Still, thank you SO MUCH for such an amazing and helpful app! I’m so happy to say that I’ve gone cruelty-free!

Parent Companies

I really like Cares and what it supports! One thing I would say would be to add if a brand is owned by a parent company that does test on animals. That would be even better!! I also really like how you have brands that that are in groups so you can compare. I think it could be even better if you find that a company does test and offer suggestions for an alternative and maybe make the groups more specific such as shampoo, soap, deodorant, and many more. I think this would be a lot easier to find which brand offers what. Overall I love Cares!!

It’s okay, not the best but not the worst.

After downloading Cares I wouldn’t believe everything it says. You should try to do some of your own research too, just to be sure. I personally don’t trust PETA after seeing they took lobsters from a restaurant and dumped them in freshwater. Lobsters are saltwater creatures, so they killed the lobsters. I don’t think PETA really knows what they’re doing. A majority of the resources used in Cares are based off PETA so I personally don’t trust the resources used.

Amazing App

Cares makes it so much easier to find out what brands are cruelty free rather than searching it on Google! I 100% recommend Cares if you want to help animals 💝

love.

i love love love Cares. it’s so easy to use and it’s very helpful. one thing i’d add is when you press “ask to stop testing” instead of giving you an image to post, it should give you a link to a petition to have that brand go cruelty free :)

Incorrect info

I used Cares to check if my shampoo shows are cruelty free and it says that they test on animals but it shows on PETA and Google that they do not test on animals and are approved by Peta

Thank you for your help protecting animals

Thank you so much for creating a tool to prevent animal cruelty, and for sharing it with the world. That said, I have a few suggestions, and think there’s a few things you should know.

First of all, PETA is actually... pretty terrible, from what I’ve heard. I think they at least used to mean well, but many of their practices are ill informed and end up causing more harm than good. They euthanize hundreds of healthy animals in their shelters, blindly oppose wool from cruelty farmers claiming to believe that it hurts sheep (many farms aren’t great, but shearing a sheep for wool, on its own, is going to leave a few nicks at worst, and not shearing them can easily cause the sheep to overheat and die), and have been known to write of ANY product that comes from an animal, no matter well the animal was treated, as unusable, often in favor of options like micro plastics that are even worse for the environment. I urge you to do your own research and come to your own conclusion, but I feel you deserve to know that you may be citing an organization full of bad information.

Secondly... well, let me start by saying that what you’re doing is already so great, and if you want to focus Cares on animal cruelty, by all means. But animals aren’t the only ones getting seriously screwed over by many, many global industries. Humans are being widely mistreated too, and it’s even worse and more widespread than you might think. Many companies, even a huge portion of those that don’t mistreat their workers already, carelessly buy ingredients or materials directly from producers that force their workers into hazardous working conditions, pay wages a person could not expect to live off of, or even use child labor. And although it’s pretty common knowledge that slavery still exists in parts of the world, it’s much less common knowledge that it’s used extensively in many products worldwide. The chocolate and diamond industries are some of the biggest offenders, but there are many more. I would love a tool that would be able to identify fair-trade goods, and if you decide you want to put more effort into helping animals and that this is not that app, I understand. You have done more than enough already. But if you do decide you want to add something, that would mean so much too.

Thank you for reading, and thank you once again for creating this. It means so much to me and to the world to be able to tell of what we’re buying is cruelty free, and that’s more important now than ever.
