QuickText - Plain Text Editor Reviews

I love the ability to browse and access plain-text files from almost any source! I'm a big user of Dropbox and I have it locked with Face ID on my XS Max iPhone and although other apps don't have a problem with accessing Dropbox, TapEdit says:

"Passcode Lock is Enabled... Files cannot be used with a passcode. If you would like to use Files, please open Dropbox and disable Passcode Lock."

I can't disable my Dropbox security, maybe there's some other way TapEdit could access Dropbox like the other apps do?

I was looking for a simple text editor for iOS devices. I must have tried about 10 different ones and they all had some major failings. However, this app did exactly what it said it would do! I’m very pleased and I just bought the Pro version to continue to provide developer support.

I would love to see search/find functionality added at some point. Regardless, I am quite pleased with this application!!

I get text files attached to emails and forum posts as part of my tech support activities. This simple lightweight app gives me a way to read and mark them up.

When I first tried it, I couldn’t open some files. I contacted the author and he responded. I sent him an example, he found the problem and fixed it in 2 days. This is excellent support.

Other popular plaintext editors don't let me open files with extensions like .sql for instance.

I would wish for a way to disable line wrapping though. I've just contacted the dev about it.

If you want a simple text editor that is clean and fast with no ads then this is QuickText you want. I tried 4 or 5 others before finding this one. It does exactly what I need to do: view and do simple edits on text files with a clean dark mode interface.

I tried my best to find free text editing apps, but I didn’t find much. My main issue with most was that they made duplicates of the files I want to save normally in OneDrive and open on another computer.

Thankfully, this one doesn’t have that issue. This one is easily the most convenient text-editor all I’ve used so far.

I’m a big fan of TextRobo. It has simplicity such that it does not get in the way of productivity with bloated features. However, it does have what I think are the essentials — cloud syncing, reliability, etc. Worth it to get some extra themes in the mix as well. I think it’s important to support the strong work of QuickText developer, Reo.

Tapping at the end of a line puts the cursor after the second character on the taped line. This should put the cursor at the end of the line. It’s frustrating.

Also was not clear how to save document opened from icloud. Figured out that it saves for you,but there’s no menu or feedback which makes it hard to understand what it’s doing.

Used to be able to pull down from edit area to hide the keyboard, save, and sync back to cloud. Now, pull down didn’t hide the keyboard, and very hard to get the top menu to show to save. After saving, the note became local note and didn’t sync back to cloud. I need to manually save back to cloud. This is no good. Editing wise still good.

Bare bones text editor which is something iOS has been missing from the beginning.

Synching across devices has been very useful for me and being able to export a .txt file is a huge help for my work.

The missing app on iOS. Everything else has been something of a work-around with poor syncing. This one actually works!

Very happy with QuickText. It does everything I want with nothing extra to get in the way of the writing process.

Every now and then a product comes along that is simple, works great and does exactly what it was intended to. That is this product. Simple, elegant and easy to use. Thank you!

Just a note that this is not useful as a file viewer since it annoyingly changes the timestamp when opening a file with no edits. It also locks after opening five files whether you edit them or not.

I love how this lightweight app works smoothly and has everything I need, but please make some space between the editor and keyboard, it’s like there r more to scroll and I somehow feel really uneasy about that.

QuickText is small in file size, and integrates smoothly into iCloud. It is a straight forward text editor.

I need to quickly edit plain text files on my phone. This lets me do just that. I like the dark mode. 10/10

I am stunned at how fast and accurately the program anticipates the direction of my line of thought. Probably 90% accuracy, maybe 95%, to be honest. Wow.

You just changed the name of QuickText and updated the icon and we now have to download the entire app again just because of that? Really?

I created 1 file two days ago. When I try to open today, I am locked out. I get a notice about being limited to 5 file a week and a suggestion to upgrade. If I can’t open my file then QuickText is useless.

I downloaded QuickText, and it looks as tho it would do everything I need in an editor. Problem is; when you attempt to do much of anything, it says it’s only available in the full version and offers a pop up with a solid blue button that should allow you to make the purchase. But does nothing when attempting to push it. I’ve attempted to notify Apple and the developer. But the link to the developer’s website for support, is only a page that simply says "this app support". That’s all that’s there. Just the text. No support.
In the end; it’s just a crippled editor, with no means of upgrade, or support.
Very disappointed. ☹️

Type over something by accident? You’re screwed. No undo function. Without them QuickText is no more useful than Apple’s “Notes.” I purchased this for an iPhone 12x Pro Max, iOS 16.1. Oh, go ahead and hit the “Support” button and see what you get. A blank web page. I’d highly suggest not wasting a penny on QuickText.
