About Pager

Reddit is the largest media and content aggregate in the world - use that constant data stream to create custom alerts based on the topics you care most about.

You can create monitors to match post titles or post flairs, match usernames or submitted domains, query the number of upvotes or comments, as well as the position on the subreddit.

Pager allows you to create custom alerts for content submitted to Reddit.

Define the frequency of the alerts, set a custom Reddit application to allow you to open new links in your favorite 3rd party app.

With a limit of 10 monitors per user, you can follow real-time news updates for your favorite teams, hobbies, politics, or just local news.

Once you create the perfect monitor, you can share it with your friends with the provided custom URL.

This is it.

If you need custom alerts for Reddit posts, this is Pager you’re looking for. It’s free with no monetization aspects at all—the developer said he is funding it himself (as of mid 2020). Clean UI is a bonus, and the option to select your preferred Reddit client for opening links is the cherry on top. I hope the developer opens Pager up for donations before trying to monetize anything, but as of the time of this review this is the best option for this type of app, by a large margin.

Sporadic success

When it works, it’s fantastic! Very helpful. But it works for me about a quarter of the time. I have tried deleting Pager and re-downloading it multiple times.. Making sure notifications are enabled.. Making sure I have the correct text on my Monitors... Everything. Alas, it only sends me notifications maybe one out of four times. I usually end up going to this particular subreddit maybe ten times throughout the day and I always see multiple posts that I never got notified of. Pager would be 5/5 for me if that didn’t happen.

Fantastic

I just found Pager and never thought I would have a use for it. Boy was I wrong! I have so many different monitors set up and they work flawlessly. I love how it allows you to choose what Reddit app you use and it works great with Apollo. I also am a huge fan of the UI of Pager. Everything is so seamless and easy to use. Developer is also very nice and is always open to new ideas and suggestions.

Works well

I like Pager, it works as it says, and even let's me pick my Reddit client. The thing is the minimum pause between notifications makes it so that sometimes I get 5 minute old posts, which is probably not an issue to most but would be nice to have an option to change it

very good

only complaint is that the required swipe down for overlays is annoying UX wise (should just be a tap outside to dismiss; i have to swipe half my entire screen to get it to go away) and that I can’t monitor a subreddit without filters, even if my rate limit is long (i’m using this to track a small, low-post frequency deals subreddit and i basically had to circumvent by filtering for vowels)

Great app

Simple to use and notifications work properly. But is there any way to remove the cooldown between notifications? I use the alerts for deals being posted on Reddit and sometimes more than one goes through within 5 minutes.

Love it!

Wish I knew about Pager sooner. Great job!

Edit: this appears to have stopped working in the latest iOS version... 14.2 is it? I still receive notifications from inside Pager , but they are not sent as push notifications to my phone.

Even better than it needs to be

This would be great even as a simple app that does what it says…but they’ve gone a step further with a truly top tier UI and UX throughout. Been a while since any app has made such a positive first impression on me. Great work, this app team!

App works flawlessly

Pager works perfectly as described. I feel guilty for using it since it’s free with no ads. Works as expected with many custom filtering options. Seems too good to be true sometimes that Pager is free.

Only app that fills this need

I’ve been beta testing Pager for a while via TestFlight and it’s been excellent. There are a couple of UI decisions that I feel are unintuitive, but as the only app of its kind, and with otherwise excellent execution, I won’t hesitant to recommend it.

Dev, you should put in a tip jar.

Does what it is supposed to, does it well

Im pretty sure this is the only app I’ve ever rated on Pager Store. Works perfectly and does exactly what I wanted it to. Without being a pain to set up. Also good job the the developer it looks very clean

Sign in with apple support?

For those of us that us sign in with apple for reddit, will there be a way for us to sign in to continue using Pager ?

Updated rating, I understand its not something you can fix. Great app nonetheless!

LOVE this app

Been beta testing for a few months before release, and you quickly forget that it’s not built-in functionality from reddit. Really well made app with lots of functionality. Join the subreddit if you haven’t already (/r/this app)

Killer App

Such a great tool for monitoring information across Reddit.

I had a weird issue with notifications recently and the developer responded via email very quickly and helped me resolve the problem.

Fantastic app

Simple and beautiful design. App does exactly what you need to do and does it flawlessly. Once setup, you get a notification for a new post, tap the notification and it takes you right to the Post in the Reddit client of your choice.

By

perfection

it’s a free push notification app with custom filters for reddit — what’s there not to love? ...besides the whole r/iosbeta community spamming the [NEWS] tag on every post every time an update comes out because people are karma-hungry harlots, i mean.

five stars from me in any case 💝

One of the best apps ever created

Pager has brought much joy to my life. It has afforded me the ability to stay on top of subreddits that I was too busy to keep my eye on. I really love it and feel any Reddit user would too.

Stopped delivering notifications

Love Pager , I use it so I check news/political subs less often. Unfortunately in the last few days, Pager has stopped delivering notifications. Not sure if it’s an app thing or an iOS thing but frustrating nonetheless.

No longer works properly on iOS 15

Ever since iOS 15 Pager no longer sends out notifications. Developer also seems to have abandoned this as there hasn’t been updates in several years.

Works perfectly

It works exactly as you'd expect, I've been using it since it was in testing and I've loved it every time

Pager is amazing

Want to know when a certain developer
or release is announced on reddit? This is Pager . Very straightforward to create the alerts and you can even share them with your friends.

Great app. Would happily pay for it.

Great app that serves the exact purpose I wanted. Fast and clean and just works. The dev even reached out to me personally to offer advice on my monitor.

Josh - send me your PayPal and I’ll buy you a beer. Thank you.

Excellent!

I’ve been trying this out for a few days and it’s filling a niche I didn’t even know I needed. Pager is simple to use and the design is clean. Thanks!

Great App!

Very well made! Very efficient and appealing to look at too. I’d rate it 5 stars if it had the ability to alert for user posts. Hopefully this feature is planned in the future.

Beautiful Design

I’m an iOS Developer, and I wish my apps had such a beautifully simple design. Seriously, kudos to you. Great job!
