BEWARE - Terrible experience!

After having used this as my primary bank for a few months once Simple announced they were shutting down, they randomly required me to do a new ID verification. One problem: both my license and passport had just expired, and this was right before a banking and federal holiday. No biggie, I thought, I’ll just try and reach out to their customer support to see if there’s any other ways to verify my identity to be able to oh idk log in and check my account balance. Good luck getting a hold of anyone!! I went almost a week without being able to check my account balance and got very familiar with the check balance features of ATM’s again. Once state facilities opened back up after the holiday I went in and got my license renewed and got the temporary license while I wait for them to mail my new ID (at least 2 weeks). I also finally got in touch with someone at N26 after several hour-long hold sessions. They refused to assist me and told me if I didn’t have a valid plastic ID in 3 business days they would cancel my account. What??? That’s way fewer days than it takes to actually get a valid ID! I pleaded with them, but they refused to assist me further. I immediately offloaded all my money to a cash app card and sprinted to my nearest local bank and opened an account. Don’t trust these folks with your hard-earned dollars. If I hadn’t been able to figure this out in time I would have been fully screwed and starving.

READ BEFORE DOWNLOADING!

I want to first say that I have never in my life written a bad review for any company or service whatsoever. It is not my personality to do so. However, I feel inclined to warn new users to the COMPLETE SHADINESS of this company before it's too late. My wife and I both opened an N26 account several months ago. We used it for receiving our pay from work, and had a few miscellaneous personal transfers/gifts etc. ALL OF THE SUDDEN in April, BOTH of our accounts were frozen without warning. We couldn't make transfers, purchases or touch our money in any way. After 30 days of sending dozens of emails and having NO RESPONSES and WITHOUT any warning, we were told our accounts would be closed and we needed to provide another bank account for them to transfer our money. They gave no reasoning and once again did not respond to ANY OF OUR EMAILS. Another 30 days went by, and still nothing. No sign of our money, our accounts had both already been closed so we no longer had access to even be reassured that our money was still there. After contacting several 3rd party companies for help in filing official complaints, our money finally showed up after a total of 2.5 months of completely being in the dark and not knowing what was happening. If you feel like I am exaggerating, just google "N26 blocked my account" and read the 100s of OTHER STORIES THE SAME AS OURS. Unless you feel like gambling your money, DO NOT use N26.

Don’t download

I used N26 banking for about a year. Everything worked fine and no money ever went missing or anything like the other reviews fortunately. But, I ran into a problem and got my account closed even while talking to customer support.
So, I got a notification saying I needed to verify my email by 7/9 so I went to do it this morning. I verified my brand new driver license (just came in the mail yesterday) and took the promoted photos and the system rest itself. I did this again, twice and was locked out. I sat on the phone for about 25 minutes the first call, and my customer service rep was helpful told me it had something to do with my image quality. Okay; maybe I just made a mistake. So I try again; same issue, this is how my morning has been for the past 3 hours. About 5 minutes ago, the final CSR I spoke with let me know that I have tried to verify too many times, and that my account would be closed. I was following the instructions to a tee, and got my account closed and now my savings is gone. I am aware I can try to get my savings but now I have to go through the process of starting a new bank account; waiting to be mailed a new debit card, and reaching out to all the employers I’m supposed to receive money from and let them know my account was closed for something that was not my fault AT ALL. Do NOT download N26Loveyourbank or give them your time or service because they do not care at the end of the day.

Took my money.

I was trying to transfer money from another checking account to get started and got an error message. My N26 balance was still showing as $0.00, but the money came out of my old checking account. I started a chat to talk to a representative. First she told me that Apple couldn’t be used with the account at all (in N26Loveyourbank it says “beta feature, can be used once”) and to contact Apple. Then she said if my address from my old bank account doesn’t match what N26 was on file, it wouldn’t work. I explained that the transaction did go through and is showing “accepted” on my end. After back and forth, came to the conclusion that despite being a checking account, because I bank with an investment company it wasn’t eligible for deposits to the new account. Still took my money though. It will be 1-2 business days to get a refund and with the weekend coming up, this is very inconvenient. I was extremely disappointed and told the specialist I want to close my account, this was unbelievable. She just asked for name and account number, then started the request. I’m still not entirely clear on why the money was taken from my old checking account and not deposited into N26. No Apple compatibility (then why was this an available feature?), addresses were different, checking account type, debit card. No idea. I was so excited to switch banks and I never thought it would go this way.

Pays Early but Customer service needs work

The process of getting a valid dispute processed is basically like a “guilty til proven innocent situation”. They will deny and not even attempt to call the company before you have to lose your patience. Since I work in customer service I’m usually veryyyyy lenient with reps because I get it. But man when your missing 100+ dollars it’s hard. To bad honestly cause I love the deposit process. It’s the only online account faster than Chime. Albeit only by a few hours but it makes a difference. I love the bank but I want to feel like my money is safe and if I am not refunded or if they can clearly see I have monies taking out but no product received or the actual company is telling them “hey we haven’t sent refund out yet pls dispute it” or the order was cancelled I need to feel confident that my bank has my back. And sadly I know that’s not true here. At least with my chime they would give me a credit and if dispute cancelled I paid the credit back or vice versa. Anyway fingers crossed I can get this situation rectified and update this comment. But I won’t hold my breath after seeing the Reddit page.

❤️N26 and with $15 bonus

I love the noon in 26 prepaid card when I first got it I really didn’t understand it very much and my card was locked and I couldn’t figure how to get it unlocked so I kept calling customer service and they kept telling me I can do it from my phone and I couldn’t figure out how to do it for like almost a month and a one day I was sitting in my car thinking there’s got to be a way maybe I just overlooked something so I went back and looked at it and it literally said unlock card one click I was unable to get my money off my account or use the card until then but since then it’s been great has a lot of security features that I like like locking the cards no one can use it. Lol Cons: Only thing I haven’t figured out yet is how to transfer money out of the in 26 account to another card in another account or transferring money out of this account to a prepaid card so if anyone has any suggestions on this please let me know. Worst rip off you can ever get!

Ive applied to N26 Metal to use the facilties they have such as the Lounge access. After waiting a month until the card arrives and logging on to their stupid inefficient login process, it turns out to be that the lounge access it not even FREE. Every single bank that advertises a LoungeKey access provides them for Free and that is the whole point of it. If I wanted to pay then I wouldve gotten a regular lounge membership from somewhere else. What is the point of paying a hefty monthly fee when this bank doesnt provide anything special and doesnt even have a proper support! There is no telephone to call, their live chat is not working and plus their emails reply days after.
I requested my account to be cancelled or changed to the free one and they simply didnt! They said that your 30days has been finished and you need to pay for the whole year. This is terrible! It took 2 weeks for the card to arrive and since then I’ve been trying to reset my account password which never worked! NEVER EVER go to them. They provide false advertising, unreliable support and simply no point of it as a bank account! Its just the looks of that stupid metal card.

I would need proper support from N26 to contact me and get this account sorted as I will not pay £15 per month regardless of the 30days passing by when there is nothing for it!

Terrible place to put your money.

Please do not use this institution, especially if you’re going to make frequent and/or larger deposits $500+ or use your card and account for anything other than standard purchasing at conventional stores, markets etc. Anything else they will flag your account freezing it until they decide to undo this. In doing this they provide no reason nor timeframe for the freeze and show complete lack of concern for the the fact that they are keeping your money from you that is needed to survive everyday life. This has happened twice in a month to me. The first time it was 3 weeks before I was able to use my account and with the 1st transaction (cash app) my account was frozen again and as of today (June 14, 2020) I have heard nothing from N26 and my account is still froze. I have filed a complaint with the FDIC and the CFPB. From what I hear this institution does this quite often, more than any other and both of the above mentioned offices are actively looking into this matter.

I advise moving all of your money out of this institution and then closing your account. N26 is not a bank, the actual bank that holds your money for them is Axios Bank. Search it under the FDIC website’s “Bank Find” section.

Disappointed with the N26 business account

I got a business account and the first thing I did is transfer some money to myself from my other account and then to a couple clients in USA and Indonesia through the N26 business account. I was told to use transfer wire. It said I can’t transfer any money internationally or receive any money from a non SEPA country using N26 business. What’s the point having a business account if I can’t receive or send money anywhere in the world. I’m being limited by my bank where I can and cannot do business. Imagine me on a business travel in a non SEPA country being able to cash out money from any atm but can’t receive money from there. What’s the point? I was later told to close my business account and apply for a new personal account. Which is again annoying. I expected better from a bank that promises to break any banking barriers.
It means they want me to use another bank as my primary bank account to receive or transfer money to my non SEPA clients or during my travel. There are some advantages of holding a N26 business account but this is a real deal breaker not being able to transfer or receive money to anyone I want. So my suggestion to anyone who wants to get a business account is get a personal account or just go to another bank.

Awful bank! Will steal your money.

Woke up right after a student refund hit my account to my account and card being frozen. Support refuses to give any information and tells me it is a routine review due to unusual activity and to wait for an email. They locked it on a Thursday morning with no warning and left me with no access to my ONLY funds. Had to reach out to shelters and food pantries when I shouldn’t be in that position. After reading online and more reviews, this seems to be common practice for them. I’ve banked with multiple online banks and never had this happen. N26 are crooks and liars. They clearly have no intent on being a true challenger bank and are probably just data mining. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I’m a freaking rideshare driver and student, what is so unusual about any of that? GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK.

Update - N26 closed my account after over a week of it being frozen with no answers whatsoever during that time. This bank is a legitimate scam. Don’t risk it. It looks nice, but that is literally it. The features are majorly lacking, customer support is a joke, and they will steal your money and respond to your reviews as if they care. STAY FAR AWAY FROM N26. My guess is they will exit the US market down the road with this type of service.

Terrible management

I have have gotten an iPhone every year since the first generation iPhone. Needless to say I have countless apps, but never have I been compelled enough to right a negative review. I really loved this account until I used this account to pay for a hotel... BIG mistake. I went to Vegas for a long weekend where I checked in on the 13th of December where I was charged $358 which broke down to $158 for resort fees & $200 to insure that I didn’t trash the room. That was on hold. On the 17th I checked out & the hotel rep stated that the $358 charge will turn into a $158 charge when the $200 dollars was released back to my account. So the charge from the hotel reverted to $158. Now typically, when you have a hold on your account or receive some type of refund, you get it back between 3-10 business days. I called today, December 6th. Just under a month later, & the only explanation is “wait”. Bad enough the conversation was via chat, I had to explain my situation twice due to N26Loveyourbank crashing on me. I’m giving them 2 more days before I call the Better Business Bureau. My December & January statement shows a value that currently shows that the amount is on my account but yet it’s now reflecting on my balance. It’s like $200 are just floating around in limbo. I’ve waited long enough.

I was originally reeled in by the Simplistic and Futuristic Design of the Card. Then once I started using it (i.e. purchases, direct deposit) I started to notice the benefits. Payroll checks can arrive up to two days faster. You can create and move money between your main account or up to 2 sub accounts (fee free). Lock and unlock your card via the Mobile App. No charge at the ATM (up to 2 free out of network withdrawals per month). I mainly enjoy the fact that the card is accepted anywhere VISA is recognized which is just about everywhere. Also the design of the Mobile App is top notch. Best of all the N26 card has certain features in their card like the installation of the chip and best of all the card is NFC enabled to work via Tap to pay for all wireless payment terminals. Overall N26 is a fee-free, easy to use, accepted almost everywhere, and makes it easy to know where you spend your money and helps you save with sub accounts.

Bad refund service

Overall I thought I would of liked this bank, but, there are unhelpful parts to using this bank 1. I had submitted a claim for a refund and was late into the 30 days wait time whether or not N26 would pre approval a temporary credit into my account then to find out they took the company’s side in whatever the submitted in the claim on there behalf so the $50 I never got back from the complaining company that I TOTALLY lost. I then had to pay $50 back to the bank this SAD!!! And 2. You must have direct deposits or money transfers from banks you must call customer service to place on you’re account for bank to bank transfers. There is NO WAY to deposit cash to add money into you’re account this way my 2nd big issue with this bank. And finally 3. The customer service isn’t very helpful when it matters the most not in either things I just mentioned above. The only good side is there is no fees or monthly charges to keep using this online & app bank services ONLY. And you’re direct deposit does go straight to your account as it should. So close by saying that in the end it’s up to you the ppl. if you choose to bank with N26. I’m stuck losing out on my $50 which isn’t right...

Don’t be fooled by the convenient app.

After using this as my primary bank for about 2 years I can say that this sort of online banking alternative is not the way to go. Everything was fine until the chip on my card started occasionally malfunctioning. I reached out to request a new card be sent but they did NOT let me know that I would be unable to use my current card in any form until the new card comes in the mail (2 weeks later). This also prevented me from sending money to my s/o to use in the meantime via venmo despite being linked to the bank account. Their account and routing information is not recognized on either their own external link services or on the other banks end. After many hours of useless information from N26 support, and both capital one and Citibank being unable to recognize their transfer I will be without any way to access my money until I get the new card in the mail, at which point I will be removing all my money and closing this account. Definitely do not rely on these people as your primary source for banking. If you do not have the debit card they send you, you will have way to access your money in any way.

N26 Never Again

First initial contact with support was beyond dissatisfaction. Honestly the worst customer service ever, getting paid early is a great feature but it’s also very common. Seems to me like their focus isn’t even on their customer service. Why make an online banking app for people, yet you can’t support them? Doesn’t support PLAID. If you lose or misplace your debit, your whole account is of no use unless you send your funds to a completely different institution via ach transfer. They won’t allow you to pay your bills using account and routing number, and yet they don’t provide virtual cards for customers to be able to have access to funds when debit is lost or stolen. Customer support is just there because they absolutely can’t help you with anything. I will not be using this institution for much longer. They might as well become a promotional institution for other online banks since their SOLUTION to everything is to “transfer your funds to a different account”. Well I might as well just USE THE DIFFERENT ACCOUNT! Worst experience I’ve ever had with any online bank, with the very utmost unpleasant experience with customer support.

No customer service/ take your money elsewhere

Software is buggy, and no customer service with 1 hour+ wait times, frequent freezing of your account and your debit card gets compromised here, despite their “intensive” security measures. Their annual ID verification is a total joke because after you’ve been on hold for an hour and a little frustrated as a customer, they will disconnect on you if you exhibit any signs of frustration. They expect you to rely hopelessly on their malfunctional computer software to verify your photo ID annually, and this is just not worth it to look forward to this hassle, not only once a year. This bank has absolutely no regard for its customers nor its customers’ money. This bank feels “entitled” over its customers and its customers’ funds, and does absolutely nothing to assist when there are issues.

Do NOT use N26 as your bank in the US!

When I first heard news that N26 was going to be launching as an online bank in the US I was ecstatic. I was just about to head to college and needed a easily manageable bank account to manage my money.

I signed up to be among the first to have access to creating an N26 account and when the time came I registered to open an account. Shortly after while doing all this on N26Loveyourbank I was prompted to contact customer support because there was an issue in creating my account. After waiting on the line for 15 minutes I spoke with a very professional employee who said would try to see what’s wrong with creating the account. After being put on hold again for a short while I was told that I cannot create an account with N26 and that the N26 customer support system cannot disclose further information on this decision. I was left speechless as the conversation came to an awkward and abrupt end.

I’m heavily disappointed in the service that was given. I can understand there being an issue in creating the account but withholding the reasons as to why that is is beyond me. I really wanted to love N26 but not a single positive thing has resulted from it for me.

Nothing but shady Banksters

Stole $313 from me for legit no reason. My account was in pristine compliance. Legit money coming in, legit bills and online shopping going out. With no warning they preemptively stole my money froze the account now nearly two weeks later I’m told this is RANDOM and any account is at risk of a compliance check which takes an undetermined amount of tome. Basically a month, 18 months a decade. It doesn’t matter there’s nothing you can do but take them to arbitration which is what I am doing. Customer service will not let you speak to the internal specialist, whom are no more than shady banksters, so bottom line if you need access to your money to IDK by a couple bags of groceries and pay your light bill N26!is not a good fit. There’s a major scandal I feel about to unfold with these banksters. I have a sneaking suspicion they are stealing from Peter to pay Paul. Floating your money much like criminals do with check kitting. So if your money and having access to it is of importance to you I would sooner bury my cash in my back yard or “hide it in an “indiscriminate “ place such as in my freezer or under my mattress before trusting the unscrupulous banksters at N26.

Seriously the best!

I did extensive research about various types of banks before opening up my account (flexibility, ease of access, ATM withdrawals, fees, exchange rates etc) and found that N26 is by far the best bank. I travel often so simplistic, easy to use and (very) convenient updates make traveling easy. You are able to withdraw money from any ATM without any hidden fees (up to 5x a month). Everything is online (there is no physical location) so no hidden fees about having opening an account. When you make a purchase the mobile app notifies me before the transaction completes. The ease and flexibility is amazing. Online wire transfers are a breeze, and options to save for investments, business or travel is extremely easy by depositing money into your created files (which can be customizable). I have told many of my international friends about N26 and they have agreed...it’s the best they’ve ever used as well.

Had a hard time with ACH Bank transfers then..

Had a hard time with ACH Bank transfers then I finally figured out a way to add money to this checking account! I added my N26 routing and account number (bank info) to my ApplePay and transferred funds to my ApplePay account so I can transfer into my N26 checking account and it was a success!

Pros: This checking account is unique as it lets you created spaces for vacation, savings ect and lets you keep money in your primary space and set aside money in another space. Well organized and have no seen a option like this for a bank account before.. I’m sure it will become useful to me.

Cons: It took me atlease 3 months to figure out how to find this account. I still don’t know how to find money directly from my FNBT checking account without going through a 3rd party (PayPal, ApplePay) idk maybe I didn’t read the fin print and it was made this way..

Very easy and fast account opening for the US (only took 5mins!!!)

App is very easy and Debit Card came very fast. Account opening process is unbeatable with no admin and no headaches and ultra-quick! Congrats to N26 team! Account is opened within N26Loveyourbank in a snap and it will verify your ID and you’re ready to go. Linking your external bank accounts to N26 is also very easy as well as moving money works like a charm. Can’t wait to see more what’s coming. Apple Pay doesn’t work yet but should be up soon after beta mode is over (was told ETA end of August for US accounts). Some features like check and cash deposits should be added and hope that will come in due course. Based on fees N26 is better than Revolut with no foreign transaction fees and no account fees.

Stuck in perpetual loops. Might as well store my money in a dumpster.

N26 is a terrible mobile bank. I’ve been stuck in loop after loop and have not been able to access my money since June. Because of this I have had to borrow money even though I have enough funds in my account. The customer service reps are terrible and offer the same suggestions over and over. I wasn’t even given a case number until late September. I can’t get in touch with any upper management and they have offered 0 to compensate for the time I’ve wasted trying to solve the problem. What’s worse is that since they have implemented 2FA, they are asking me to go to an ATM whenever I want to talk to a customer agent (in order to verify my ID). This means that every time I get on I have to take the time to make a transaction. This means I have to actually PAY MONEY in ATM fees and international transaction fees just to get online with a customer agent who eventually tells me that there is nothing that they can do and that they will work on it. If you want a bank that keeps your money and doesn’t let you access it, I definitely recommend using N26.

Great, straightforward banking!

Exceptional app. Love the banking experience, the 2 free ATMs a month which I found to be just perfect for me, I don’t use ATMs that much but when I do, I love that N26 will take care of those fees for me. N26Loveyourbank is made to perfection and it also helps you put some money aside without the conventional Savings account. With spaces you can put money aside for whatever reason and I love that after you send money into a “space” that money will be taken out of you “current balance” section and it will only show up at the respective “space” you sent it to, making it less likely for you to spend that money. I also love that my direct deposit comes up to two days earlier, love that. Weds are the new Fridays for me!

Easy and fun to set up

Took me a total of 30 minutes to set up in the comfort of my home while enjoying a cup of coffee and another 5 hours to get activated. What a much better experience than having to set up an appointment at the bank after calling two or three times, be interviewed for 1 hour, wait two weeks to get activated. Got my debit card in less than a week in the
Mail (didn’t need to go to a branch), could set my own pin (didn’t need to wait for a separate envelope to arrive later with bank chosen pin) and as soon as I activate the card, I can add it to Apple Pay. UPDATE: SOLVED / My favorite feature was removed recently

Apparently, the developer team saw this review because they reintroduced the dynamic balance feature back in the latest update!!! Thank you for listening to user feedback and enhancing your service quality even further!

I absolutely LOVE N26. It’s been a game changer in all areas of my life. It’s simple, versatile and has everything I need to manage my finances from the get go.

HOWEVER, with the recent home screen overhaul, one of my favorite features was removed! Beforehand, when you would scroll down the transactions list, the account balance would AUTOMATICALLY change to show how much you had after the last shown transaction. After the update, that no longer happens and I have to manually calculate my balance for any given point. It was one of my favorite features because it allowed me to gradually see how my initial balance was spent over time, giving me more info to act while planning ahead.

I urge the N26 developers to reimplement this in any given way. I’m sure many other users miss it too.

Banking game changer in Europe

I could not write anything more positive about N26Loveyourbank, concept and the bank itself. Everything they promise for the whole experience is true or even better. I am actively trying to get everyone I know and trust to start using this service and switch from their banks. Finally someone in Europe is re-envisioning the ancient ways we are forced to use our bank accounts. I am so happy that Apple Pay is being rolled out so fast and I hope and ask that we all get it soon too.

Severely limited and mismanaged

Can't pay bills. Can't send money or transfer out. Can't deposit or write checks. Can't get a complete answer from chat support's scripted replies. Money only can go in via direct deposit or bank transfer, and only can go out by using the debit card to spend or get cash.

After realizing how useless N26 was, I asked to close my account. They said I either had to empty it first or transfer it all to another N26 account! Then after a couple of weeks I got an email asking for details on what other bank account I wanted to transfer the balance to, I told them, and the next day the money appeared there. All good, but... I could still use N26Loveyourbank to access my N26 account and the same balance was there too. Looks like they messed up something, but I got my money back so it's not my problem anymore.

P.S. N26 in the USA isn't a European bank - they partner with Axos, another USA bank.

Support people asking for full SSN

DON’T trust this company with your data. It’s a ticking data theft time bomb.
I had a surreal experience with customer support. I had a typo in my email during the signup process and was then told to contact support. I contacted them in their support chat and among other things was asked to provide my full SSN. No support person should ever ask you for the full SSN, least of all in a chat window. Very concerning that there’s a support person who either directly handles inputting of SSNs or reading SSNs in their internal system. It’s simply not necessary to get someone’s full SSN in a support interaction. Name, address and last 4 digits of SSN should be enough. Instead SSNs are accessible to support people, which doesn’t make me trust that this company follows industry best practices in regards to data encryption. Regulators should be made aware of this.

Need way to add funds instantly

If there was a way to add funds instantly this would be the perfect bank!! What’s the hold up nowadays everyone uses cash app and zelle for instant payments. What’s the current status on that. love the unique look of the card would love to have a option for a custom transparent debit card or a color option to make it more unique. So many people look at my card and say oh cool I love it!!! Just bring a little more personality to it as well as well as accept zelle and able to link primarily to cash app and it’s a win win. This is why I’m holding off on my direct deposit. But soon!!

Horrible customer service App crash Payment crash

It is hard even to describe how reluctant they are in means of fixing existing issues - more likely customer service agents could not care more about your issues. I got a spit in a face - the you are the one from a very few with this issue - somebody will look into that.

APP INSTABILITY
It is Very likely for N26Loveyourbank to fail to recognize iPhone X face recognition, I already got used to login with password. Second huge bombshell is a inability to process wire payments via their badly integrated TransferWise protocol - which has been long ago failing and even more recently stopped working at all - it will crash app now - once a international wire is being initiated it stuck as a pending payment forever in your log. The issue has not been fixed since the September.

USELESS CHAT HELP
In addition N26 called off the telephone support which was very handy and left a chat based support that is literally useless. Agents does nothing to help you at least enough.

IDENTITY THEFT
In order to connect with chat agent you now have to provide the passport ID and other sensitive date every time you seek a chat help.
