This app doesn’t save your answers don’t waste your time.

The whole point of mental health help is to get your thoughts, feelings, and very specific problems out onto paper, a platform that is suppose to save your answers, or a therapist who has notes and memory. Thanks to the pandemic, apps have become our new trusted advisors. You’d want your “trusted advisor” who is harboring all of your mental issues to maybe keep a memory of some kind so you can look back on your answers. NOPE. I spend an hour completing activities and really getting into my mindfulness. Then I go back to so I can re-read and share my answers with a person I trust LIKE myStrength TELLS ME TO DO, and they are all erased. I had 5 paragraphs of detailed entries. Nothing glitched, my phone didn’t die half way, it just decided to say it was complete and erase everything I did. This is quiet defeating for a person with sever mental health issues wouldn’t you? So I tested it and didn’t write anything, hit done and it still said “activity completed.” Nothing makes you feel more like you wasted your time than not seeing a word of what you wrote. The least myStrength could do to make some sort of effort for their users or “patients” is to save what they write down.

Unable to update when I complete a habit

I just signed up for this app online and the website lets me track my habits by saying when I completed the habit by clicking a button. This enables calendar based tracking of habits and progress towards my goals. I downloaded myStrength specifically so I could track my habits since I know I will forget to do it on the desktop site but will not forget if I have an app. Sadly myStrength only lets me view my habits, add habit, or delete habit. I cannot track if I did my habit or not.

I give two stars instead of one star because the track your health tool appears to function the same on the website and myStrength which is great. I would give five stars if the feature of habit tracking is the same as on your desktop website. It would be also be a nice to have to set a notification reminder each day to prompt me to enter a tracking entry.

Good content, but app isn't as reliable as the website

I'm using myStrength to improve my sleep. I like the content and the idea, but there are some issues that make me hesitate to rely on it.

I got different averages of my sleep time and suggested sleep schedules in myStrength vs on the website. The website seemed more accurate, and so now I really don't trust myStrength , which defeats the purpose.

Also, it would be more helpful for me if the sleep log reminders were from myStrength and used myStrength , instead of being email reminders that take you to the website - I don't generally read my email first thing in the morning, and may skip days, but I will look at my phone.

Lastly, the navigation of myStrength is odd and unintuitive. I couldn't find the sleep log for more than a week in myStrength until I stumbled over it under Progress.

Basically it seems like myStrength isn't quite as useful or reliable as the website, which is unfortunate since I'm more likely to use an app consistently.

I highly recommend this app!! It will help you

I recommend myStrength for anyone who is dealing with some sort of mental health issue no matter how minor. It’s very informative and the programs give me really good advice. It is important though to do everything they tell you and try and keep on it.
The only thing I didn’t like was how they’re are several journals that cannot be accessed on the progress tab. Like the thought tracker log and the activity log should be accessible there.
I do recommend writing these things down instead of doing it on the phone all the time. It works better.

Everyone should still download and use it. Good luck.

Disappointed

I have been trying various meditation apps because we are living in such anxious times. For a personalized supportive introduction to meditation, I have responded best to Ofoso’s voice and personality on the Balance app. Although there are many good suggestions here, this this app app is too impersonal. Also, many of the “experts “ in the videos are well meaning but unfortunately they are inexperienced and/or ineffectual for reasons too lengthy to be listed here. (For instance, the pace of their information ranges from too rapid to be useful to too slow - - boring and/or uninformed.) I was hoping for better. I appreciate Kaiser sharing free apps, but they don’t seem to realize that myStrength doesn’t allow most people to feel successful when that is exactly what they need to begin feeling better. And that’s the fault of myStrength , not the people seeking help.

This app will monetize your health information

I was offered the use of this service through my job. I did not trust giving personal deatails about my mental health to my employer/a shady website so I did my research. This company uses your responses and even uses AI to listen and transcribe your video sessions on this site. They use that data for many purposes, but they can also “target” you with the information you provide them to try and make you behave the way they want you to. The website even says at the bottom that they are not a healthcare provider and nothing they give is medical advice, yet that is what they act like this is. Please do not use myStrength, go to a real doctor who will keep your information private and not use it against you .

Where’s the Tools button

I’ve found the modules helpful, but is says to use the this app tools section to use the helpful “tools,” forms, exercise, or to print out activity forms, but where is it. I have to go back to a module to do an activity and I don’t always have access to a computer when I need to use the helpful tools or want to go through a module section to fine the activity.

Lots of issues

Firstly, it asks for a lot of personal information. But no mechanism to delete it if you don’t like myStrength . I didn’t like it. Here is why. Audio sometimes keeps playing even once you’ve left the screen. So you can have two audio lessons playing at once. There are lots of condition area, but each one is super shallow. The kind of learnings are the same as the top result of a google search. The navigation is awful. No swipe to go back. A dialog “are you sure?” to close a modal. Module suggestions that make no sense e.g. pregnancy module for a 60 year old male. The quizzes are often patronizing. I am thoroughly disappointed in my provider for suggesting this and shocked they pay for it.

Wish it Showed More Than 10 Entries

I love myStrength , and has helped me focus on my mental wellbeing. The one feature that I absolutely needs tuning is the “Track your Health” chart under the Progress tab. It shows your past 10 entries, but that is all. I wish the charts tracked ones stats over a longer period of time. At least a month! I hope they update this feature so that I can longer track my trends in my overall health.

Trash

I quit myStrength after the people you talked to gave up on talking to me. That's fine, I don't expect them to be miracle workers. The 1 star review is coming over a year later because the people who run the mailing list had the gall to send me an email with the headline "action required." Then when I tried to unsubscribe I had to log in with a password for a service I hate from over a year ago. I will never do "forgot my password" to UNSUBSCRIBE from something. At this point though I basically expect this sort of awful behavior and design from the mental health industry and from Kaiser specifically.

DO NOT subscribe to this Program or DOWNLOAD this App

I signed up for this program to help me sleep better. I got daily emails reminding me to Log My Sleep. Then I decided I didn't want to participate. There are better apps to log sleep. So I unsubscribed. The daily emails kept coming. Every day I unsubscribed, but the emails continued. Dozens and dozens. I wrote to and telephoned Member Support. Each time, the rep promised to stop the emails. I still get them every day. They clog up my Inbox and deplete my storage. No one at Member Support seems to know how to stop them. They escalate the case. Nothing works. This is a Warning to you.

Missing some things?

I used to use myStrength regularly and customized what I was tracking - mania, depression, sleep, etc….but then things got stable so I stopped. At my last psychiatry appointment my doc suggested using it again.

Before I could start using it again; I had to download the update. With this update I gives me the default option to track my mood only. I’ve searched high and low and can’t find where/how to add the others back?!

If there’s a way to customize and add the other stuff; please contact me and help with this….

Looping Questionnaire

I also had the looping questionnaire issue in app on first login as only went as far as creating password on website. I was able to log in after completing first time questionnaire on the website.

App did not allow pasting into email or password fields. Otherwise seems like a fine journal your mood site.

App doesn’t work for me

I continue to receive emails to update and response however when I attempt to log in from either email or notifications I receive an ‘oops, something went wrong Try again’. For months I cannot respond to therapist nor stats update request. I have latest version and update phone. Uninstalling 🙁

Personalization Settings Not Working Correctly

The Personalization Settings are not being reflected correctly in the "Choose Your Focus for Today" section on the Home page or the "Focus Areas" section on the Activities page. I am seeing activities for topics I did not select and I am not seeing activities for some of the topics I did select. The "Life Topics" section on the Activities page may be incorrect as well.

Helpful, but before the most recent update.

Before version 3.0, I was able to track my anxiety as well as my emotions and see a chart of my progress, but when myStrength got updated, all my progress got deleted. Honestly I loved it before the update but this new version isn’t that good.

Not stable

I only had this for about 6 days and when i go into my diary, it keeps flickering over and over. I reinstalled it 4 times, still doing the same thing

By

Good if used w other supports

this app supports my self care efforts. If used as part of a multi-prong strategy, it can be very useful. The mood tracker and short videos have really helped me track my progress.

Keeps logging me out

Really frustrating to keep getting logged out

By

Not for serious mental health issues

myStrength felt very impersonal and overwhelming because of the amount of content the users have access to and the way the content is presented. It may be good to use if you have minor mental health concerns or as an additional measure with therapy and other treatments.

By

App is flawed

I can’t even log in. I tried logging in through safari and their website and no issues. If I try to login on myStrength I get a invalid input error message. I reset the password twice to something less and less secure and still the same error message. Not encouraging

More college educated therapists.

Close your eyes and imagine.... breath in breath out. Focus on your hand. Look at the cute memes.

132 suicides happen every day. People don’t need smoke and mirrors they need actual help.

myStrength did not work for me it just made me more frustrated. I don’t need anyone speaking to me like I’m a little child.

Kept asking me to complete the questionnaire

After seeing the screen saying the questionnaire is complete it starts all over again and asks the same questions. Too irritating to keep. I will be deleting myStrength.

Nothing to brag about

There isn’t anything in myStrength that isn’t already found in other apps. I’d prefer to use the Fitbit app or SparkPeople for fitness & exercise.

By

The application doesn’t download

The application doesn’t download
Fix it I need a phone number to my strength and fix it now I’m tired of complaining

By

My strength

I tired to download, the new version of my strength app and that all it does . These app a serious issue. It does not work at all.
Please fix myStrength .

Not inclusive

Here’s a thought: a therapeutic app shouldn’t refer to trans and non-binary people as “Other”. Do better.

By

Not a good start

I just spent time and effort composing a thorough review and then it disappeared. Not repeating myself.

Let’s think realistically here

myStrength , although finicky at times, is nice enough. The advice given isn’t bad, but it does feel like a carbon copy of other apps/websites that provide similar activities for free. The user interface feels a bit rushed, and you can tell that the bugs haven’t fully been worked through, as it glitches around and is completely impersonalized (as other reviewers have said). But I think we all know this isn’t the problem.

Kaiser holds itself on a pedestal because of their preventative healthcare, but they’ve long been known for not treating mental health in the same preventive way. The therapists and doctors of course, are amazing, but are incredibly overworked and are unable to care for people in a PREVENTATIVE way. Right now the mental health services that are provided are crisis management, and that’s it. The overworked staff have to triage their own clients in an attempt to see everyone and focus on those who are in crisis. This is the opposite of preventative- although they are saving money by having less staff, in the long run they are most likely losing money by creating a cycle of people constantly in and out of crisis being sent to more invasive treatment options like hospitalizations. Therapy is proven to not work for people working on mental illnesses if you’re not meeting with somebody on a consistent basis creating goals- which the therapists at kaiser are unable to provide.

I know that I am far from the only person speaking on this issue, and if Kaiser’s own providers going on strike doesn’t change their approach on mental health, an internet review on an app certainly won’t. However, I still want to be clear with how I and so many others feel about how Kaiser treats mental health. An app is a cool thing to provide, yes, but the money going towards this could possibly have gone to the more pressing issues. As much as we want it to be, mental health care isn’t all affirmations and cutesy quotes. And unfortunately a computer can’t substitute a real provider.

My family has to pay $250 weekly (out of pocket) for an out of network psychologist for me. I love my kaiser therapist, but I see her so little that she can’t remember what we’ve talked about and it would be ridiculous to attempt goals...our meetings amount to a check on if I am a danger to myself. So instead, we pay two hundred and fifty dollars a week, because Kaiser doesn’t provide the care that I (and many others) need. I am lucky to be in a situation where my family can prioritize this, but many families and individuals cannot. Recently, my kaiser therapist recommended myStrength. I tried it out, and like I said before, it’s nice enough, and I will continue to try to use it and hope for improvements. But a self care app, one with activities almost exactly the same to those that I’ve seen in apps marketed towards stress relief, should not be marketed as a way to treat mental illnesses, especially serious ones. Please, do better.
