necn: New England Local News Reviews

Just downloaded necn . Had read reviews here, where the developer wrote that you can set your start screen so necn “feels like a weather app,” however, clicking on the this app on the top left does NOT bring up a menu that lists that as an option (on ios- iPhone). Am I missing something, or has that feature been taken away? Hoping it’s the former, as I liked the older weather app; it’s the main reason I downloaded this news app. If there’s no option anymore to set your home screen, making it necessary to wade through a lot of other items just to navigate to what I really want to see, then I question whether I have use for it. Have read the FAQ for the answer to this question and could not find an answer. Might anyone please help?

After the last update I saw that the map background was grey. I didn’t like it! I learned I couldn’t change it back, so I thought to give it time.

I now find the contrast of the grey much better than the previous color!

The addition of the smart radar and the playback showing the moving radar works so much better than before! I’m sure I’ll find other improvements as I use it more and more. Thanks!

The new update is terrible, nothing loads, just the spiraling wheel. And like another mentioned the news is terrible, a few current articles and then things still on there that are months old. I really wish you would bring back the original weather app. It was so good and so accurate. Now the entire app is useless. Thank you for the consideration.

I am at a loss for my weather now, this is not even remotely as good as the old this app weather app. Please have your developers update the old app so it is compatible with IOS 11. The old app was my “go to” and I recommended it to everyone I knew... especially those on the sports sidelines with me. Thank you for your consideration. And, I see the “developer response” on all the bad reviews is “oh the old app just isn’t compatible “.

This was the only weather app I used until the latest update, which changed everything and makes it almost impossible to see any of the text since they changed the font to something completely illegible. Who thought this was ready to release and they must have terrific vision if they think this is better then before.

I hate to say it, but any other weather app is better than this now. Absolutely disappointing and they should be embarrassed of themselves, ruining a perfectly functional and easy to see and read weather app.

Extremely happy with the this app app, especially the weather. I’ve tried several weather specific apps and non compare! I travel a lot, so having the option of entering several locations for current weather is very helpful. The this app weather team is terrific and more accurate than other New England weather forecasts; especially the 10 day forecast. I believe the this app 10 day forecast is the only one in New England. I’m not trying any other weather apps! Matt Noyes is the best!! So at ease and knowledgeable!

I liked the old version but I understand that it could not be updated for the new iOS. However the new version has problems with the weather. The scrolling is very jerky if you change location when it changes the map. Also when you change location the hourly forecast does not change. Try the winter forecast in Boston and Orlando. It will show the same hourly forecast for both. It also does not update the hourly forecast if you reopen it later in the day. The only way around this is to completely terminate necn not just close it.

necn has improved! Easy to set different locations now. It's my go to source for current and upcoming weather wherever I'm headed. Thanks for the improvements!

Original review: Loved the original this app Weather app. Update with News app is not an improvement! Not easy to set locations, and have to scroll forever to get daily and hourly updates. I'll stick with original this app weather app as long as I can!

necn and the NBC10 Boston app both freeze up and ultimately crash after reading thru several articles. It can only tolerate so much use and then it freezes and crashes. I ultimately deleted the NBC10 app and may have to do the same for this app.
Can you update the apps to fix that and to allow for cache clearing or whatever else is needed to keep necn from freezing after reading a few articles? Also, necn pages jump around, video crashes pages.
The website via browser works better, tho lots of ad clutter causes pages to freeze some too.

I used to be able to log in with my Comcast xfinity provider since Comcast technically owns the channel and now I can’t. Under the settings of my iPhone 11, this app is listed as being able to access my tv provider, but the full list on necn /website doesn’t include it.

necn works well. The information you can find on it, whether it be weather or news, are often accurate from time to time. Very informative more often than not. I highly recommend using this Application to try and find out what they think the weather may or may not be that day or what might be happening or possibly happened around the world.

I’ve actually stopped patronizing a couple of businesses just for running their tedious gasbag ads on necn. I don’t care about the overacting nonunion talent with a severe Revere accent pretending to have an orgasm over your shingle sale when I’m trying to see if a tornado is coming toward my house. If you accidentally click away and have to restart the video, you might as well off yourself because you’re in for an advertising double feature. It’s like the developers have never used the Internet. Also the map is crap.

I like the areas that are covered in your news broadcast. Even though I’m from Western mass, I appreciate that you cover farther reaching areas other than just a small section of Massachusetts. When your meteorologists do the weather, they mention the weather pattern coming from New York and the Great Lakes, in addition to parts north of Massachusetts.

Owning a landscape company the weather plays a massive role. this app app gives incredibly accurate updates when weather is heading my may. I have gotten notifications saying rain in your area in 15 minutes and it is dead on. Matt Noyes is a character and extremely good at his job. Look no further for weather apps.

Great app, I use it mostly for weather. However they still haven’t added the feature to allow you to 1 click adjust or reorder the locations for weather. I travel for business a lot and often adjust and change weather locations. It’s a pain to delete and re-add all your locations if you want to reorder the way they are displayed.

I have been a long time fan of this app to get my local news and weather. Their app is great and full of information. You can set your preference to weather or news when you open necn . I have notifications set up as well so I can updates on news stories and weather as it happens. Love necn, love this channel!

You can always count on this app to have the most updated & accurate weather forecast video available Earlier in the morning than any of the other local stations & apps - which is useful & necessary if you don’t have the time to watch the tv you can go right to necn & watch the update immediately

I used to and still do like the weather part of necn but a recent update makes it always open up to the news. This annoyed me but this morning it ruined my enjoyment of watching the olympics by putting it in my face that France upset the USA in basketball as I literally had just turned it on and the game is airing at almost half time but now I can't watch it because this app ruined it for me. Why would you put this on the opening page??? You are deleted and I'll have to settle for a lesser weather app

Love this ap, it has the weather w radar and 10 day forecast and of course the hourly forecast. Awesome site to review for now and the future. Plus accurate as well. Also also current events to scan at same site. I hope to always have access to this ap.

I use the this app app to quickly find local news and weather. I can get info much faster than waiting for TV news time slots. I check necn routinely at least twice a day rather than alerts. Highly recommended

I can get the info I want but like most news apps the quality is lacking because of the downward slide into social media views. A typical user has a phone and the information content should be succinct and clear. Social media is designed for infinite scrolling to keep eyeballs on advertisement. I prefer the information be more clearly presented — weather today and through the week with deeper layers like videos presented carefully and selected for value over just filler in existing spaces.

I’ve been using necn for quite some time now and I love the timing and accuracy of the notifications and how organized necn is. However, what would make this perfect is to have a complete allergy forecast section. I’ve been using The Weather Channel app for their allergy forecast but that’s the only reason I use it. If you could add an allergy forecast then I could just use one app for everything. Thanks in advance! Be safe!

I’ve depended on this which for so long was clear and concise. I’ve had deliciously lovely maps change to not so appealing choices. But now I find at my age your powder blue print might as well be invisible. Need to beg for mercy or actually turn to another provider.

HELP, have to say goodby. Cannot get used to the ugly black earth instead of the lush green you had for years it seems, and for all intents and purposes, the bar on left with weather detail is invisible but for the temperature and an ad at the bottom. Like the warnings on medicine bottles, when they get so faint and tiny you’ve accomplished getting rid of your senior customers.

It’s been so comforting trusting my weather information source all these years, but somebody out there doesn’t much care if we can read your numbers anymore. Whoever is designing your page needs a long vacation.

My husband and I have been reading our MA news here for many years. It is usually well written and easily understood. The weather app is great.

We moved from MA three years ago but still faithfully read our AM news here. It keeps us up to date with things occurring in our home state, without the built up "fake news" of other apps.
