For all the years I have been using NewselaStudent, something stays the same whether I was in Middle School or High School; NewselaStudent works for the teacher. Albeit, it is lovely to read an academic perspective about the world in general -the writing portion is the easiest (ironically)- I am troubled with the quizzes. Recently, many teachers are using NewselaStudent to simplify their grading, and somehow when you get 3/4 you still get a C as a grade, which does not make sense considering you only got one question wrong.

I hear all the time fellow classmates complaining about Newsela because of this system, it indirectly ruins a student’a grade. In my opinion, there should be either more questions or rounded it up to level the ground for students, since in a normal exam even getting an amount of questions wrong can get you a B, yet somehow Newsela works by passing or failing. No room for diversity in grades. Adding more questions would be a good update to move past from this fail-pass system. Otherwise, NewselaStudent works greatly and will have to, most likely, continue using it because of my teachers.

I am a student and I absolutely love NewselaStudent. The articles are very good, and I love how there are quizzes and articles in Spanish. I need to write four science articles a week, and I can just go the to science section and start reading. My teacher can assign me articles to read, so when we have a project I know what to read. There are different reading levels, so if you are not advanced you can go lower, but if you are an advanced reader you can read at a higher level! This is such a great source for info, and if you are a teacher definitely use NewselaStudent for your students. They will definitely enjoy it!

This is an awesome website that I use quite often with my students. However, the transition from webpage to app is underwhelming. Our school is in a low income area and many students do not have a computer at home, making the phone app version vital to them. Especially now during the quarantine when school is expected to continue while many students don’t have devices. We use Microsoft for our accounts, and while the option to sign in with Microsoft on the webpage works seamlessly with our accounts, the lack of this option on NewselaStudent makes it pretty difficult to get students online. They are not allowed to use their personal emails to join our class but they can’t sign in with Microsoft unless they’re on a computer. This should be a relatively easy fix and would make a huge difference for many students like mine

Articles are excellent! Students are thinking thoughts about other things beside rap, drugs, and sex. They are using their minds for a better society; therefore, caring for themselves and their families. Students have a right and a desire to be heard, because they are the future.
I see the students who I taught how to read Shakespeare, Thoreau, Wordsworth, Hardy, John Donne, Shelley, T.S. Eliot...
And hear their speeches...their platforms, and it makes me so proud that these early readings have fostered in them the desire and courage that they, too, can be effective leaders of good of our society.
Students need a forum to begin venues where their thoughts can be formed...and led the greater good for others.

I’m quite convinced with having NewselaStudent on my mobile! The most distinctive feature that distinguishes NewselaStudent from the other apps related to the same field is that readers can adjust the articles with their language levels and understand the contents better, also, improve their reading skill with a higher level! Taking quizzes is also another helpful feature that allow you to assess your comprehensive skill. Keep going guys with progressing NewselaStudent through this technological age. I appreciate your wonderful work.

Newsela in general is an amazing website and app for education. I personally love it on the website but I decided to download NewselaStudent because of a problem. (It does not deal with Newsela) As I was doing a writing prompt, I would accidentally hit the “Done” button and then it would submit it when I wasn’t finished. I decided that I would just change the reading level and start again but the same thing happened. A suggestion would be if you can edit you prompt if you didn’t finish it and a erase button for any work you did in another reading level. Also can you explain what the reading level does? Overall I absolutely love Newsela!

I use NewselaStudent for many of my school assignments, and the first few times I was completing the writing portion, I thought that I had forgotten to click the save button so all my work deleted. I recently had to pause during the middle of an assignment, and as a result, all my work was deleted even though I pressed save. This is extremely annoying considering the response I had written was very long and almost finished.

To the developers of NewselaStudent: please look into changing the location of the “save” button as my keyboard covers it. In addition, I think it would be very helpful if you could make the responses auto save so in the event that someone does have to quickly exit NewselaStudent , all their work is still saved.

I recall hearing of Ms. Durham, It didn’t help any that I am 15 years older and at that time when she was born I was chasing baseballs with hopes of becoming an All star. Gymnastics weren’t even mentioned in Queens New York in the 1960’s and wasn’t even acknowledged much I my Junior and High School education. It wasn’t until I reached Syracuse University that gymnastics was given the much earned and popularity. Unfortunately it wasn’t a ghetto sport when I was a kid and though I heard her name decades ago, she is Most Truly a Star-in my eyes. Thank You Sweetheart🙏🏽

I love NewselaStudent. It’s a great app for kids to use to read the news. You can take quizzes and answer written questions. I only have one problem, every once in a while I will open NewselaStudent and it says “Oops, We hit a snag! Please sign in again!” then NewselaStudent freezes. I exit NewselaStudent and go back in. I click sign in and then click Google. I sign in with my account and it starts to load. Then it glitches out and goes back to the sign in and sign up page. I have to re download NewselaStudent and sign in. Otherwise, it’s a great app! 😀

As a student that likes to learn and read about the world NewselaStudent doesn’t do a very good job. The quizzes are useless and the write is painful. NewselaStudent always puts me on a lower reading level and I would like a challenge. I have been forced to use NewselaStudent for three years and it has not increased my reading or English or vocabulary at all. Either that or teachers need to give kids some freedom on what the kid reads. Newsela counts on half of my English grade and that is why me and everyone is failing English. To me it creates stress and anxiety. I would also like to add that this does everything for the teacher, the teacher doesn’t do any work and I think I would learn better if the teacher teached it. Now when I come for extra help they don’t know what to do. I don’t get why people like it.

If your kid(s) love reading your articles, but you don’t want them to read them, then Newsela is perfect. Newsela has articles that interest kids. If your kid isn’t a good reader, or is beyond grade level, you can also change the reading level. NewselaStudent is amazing because it has millions of articles to read, form informative articles to opinion articles. Teachers can use Newsela to teach kids about a certain subject, too. Newsela is great, but adults would not enjoy it as much as kids.

I have been using Newsela for school for 2 years and it is a great way for teachers to let their students read news articles without bias in the articles and it’s just the straight information about that topic. Also, the article can quiz you at the end of your reading to give you a little challenge to make sure you were paying attention. You can choose the level of the article and the quiz to make it more or less challenging.

So one night, pretty late, I realized i had forgot to finish my newsela article for my class. I was panicking, and i found that i could download the newsela app, which helped me SO much. I finished the assignment in no time and it was super easy to do so! Unfortunately, my screen glitched out and accidentally submitted my write, but i did it at another reading level. Thank you for NewselaStudent, it saved me from getting kicked out of that class.

NEWSELA is a really good source of information for children. You can learn things about climate changes and pollution without listening to a very long report that leaves you with more questions. You can also read things about dogs and cats and just things that make you feel good inside. There are also sets for you to customize your reading material to things you like.

As a teacher, using the browser to access and review student work is not very convenient. The browser view is limited and the pro binder tab takes up more than half of the screen. I have to turn my phone sideways to read their quiz scores, but even in doing so, the words are scrunched together and the layout becomes skewed. Please allow teacher access to NewselaStudent like before or make adjustments to the mobile browser on Safari or Chrome.

I’m a huge fan of Newsela and would really appreciate a more mobile access instead of having to rely on my desktop to access student data. Thank you.

In my 8th grade class, our teacher gives us an assignment called reading logs. Every week we complete 5 logs, unlike others who may do 7 a week. In the end however, we need to read both fiction and nonfiction in each week. Newsela has constantly given me great interesting articles, while also allowing me to complete my homework. Thank you so much!

Newsela is a terrific resource for teachers who need to create a fair playing field for all learners. Using the variety of incredibly fascinating and contemporary leveled readers, teachers can differentiate instruction to meet the reading needs of all students. The text features lead students to believe they are all reading the same material...thanks for being so sensitive to the students' needs!!!!

An excellent application for academic and general informative purposes due to a very eclectic collection of articles in terms of topics and nature, and a UI that both functions quite well without any significant or even minute errors regardless of the breadth of functions NewselaStudent offers to users, and proves to be quite aesthetically well designed as well

I love Newsela because there are tons of articles interesting to me, at my level, with just the right amount of information. I enjoy being able to feel like I know what is going on in the world. NewselaStudent could fix a few design issues but overall I think it is great and easy to navigate. Definitely recommend!

I love NewselaStudent as a student and so does my teacher. It provides many articles. It is always so fun. There is also one thing I really love about Newsela if you fail it doesn’t say YOU FAILED and it lets you see the right answer. It even explains the answers. NewselaStudent is really good, I use it constantly in class, but I really want to see a multitasking feature. I have to do summaries for an English class, and using google docs without covering half the article would be nice. But it is a really good app. I recommend you download it if you are a teacher. In an English class. Or something.

Great website but ..not a great app. Newsela does offer easy access to the quizzes and writing assignments , but when it comes to the replying and submitting your reply, it takes forever . Once you finish your reply you can press the X which exists you out or a downward arrow which just closes what you were replying , however you automatically delete what you were writing as if exit your reply . It’d be nice if there was a submit option after you finish your reply instead of finding a way how to do it online . Removing it also takes forever .

NewselaStudent is built on a great concept, and has many great articles. However, their development team operates poorly which ruins the overall customer experience. There are so many bugs both NewselaStudent and the website that makes the service crashes often, sometime even not able to login! The user experience is poorly designed too. I still don't know how to correctly register my kids to the service. I hope the team can set a higher standard on the quality of NewselaStudent and the customer experience.

So great! I love that every morning I can wake up and there will be new articles for me to read. You can adjust the lexical number with just swiping, the new update is great! Both before and after, you can choose from new, categories, and lexical levels! I definitely recommend Newsela for you!
