Key Benefits of J O E

- The settings memory has been restored.

- All you need to do is “long press” what ever drink is on your “main menu”.

- The app can be improved if the different products in the Z10 could be synced to the app so any product changes would be the same in the app no matter what device is used.

- The app connects quickly and has function properly.

Don’t Download

Version 1.3.0 dumbs your machine down and takes away your customizations. And the new interface hides the simple act of making an espresso or coffee behind an opaque and non-intuitive interface.

If you liked a slightly less strong espresso when you had Honduran beans, or had dialed in that perfect setting for a natural processed yirgacheffe that’s all gone now. Everything’s a one off each time you order. Place an order, adjust the strength lower the brew temperature, and if you like the results better write the recipe down because there’s no way to save that to JOE anymore. With the old interface I could create a latte “recipe” that could be ordered even if it wasn’t part of the native machine’s menu. That’s all gone. Now when I open JOE , it looks like the only product available from the machine is hot water for tea!? This update was clearly not well thought out.

UPDATE
So the good news is that all your customizations are still there, the problem is that JOE developer messed up the transition of the old customizations to the new format. If you long press the beverage that first shows up when you start JOE and then drag it to a new location, you’ll see that there are now two different beverages; one of these will be the first beverage you set up on your original product settings page. You can continue long pressing and dragging to eventually reveal your old product setting beverage menu.

New update horrible-no Siri-lost custom coffee settings

Well......I woke up Wednesday morning - my Birthday- loving my Impressa Z8 -asked Siri to once again make my Macchiato and........she had no idea What I was talking about. Bummer! Opened app and no product settings- no Siri phrase options and no custom drinks saved. C’mon! updates are to improve customer experience and fix bugs. Can we rollback the update while you interview new developers? It was quite impressive before- my friends and family were dazzled with the technology. Now I’m afraid it has lost its wow factor. Don’t let me down Jura bring back Siri and my custom Coffees!

Minimally useful

Strange app and seriously flawed in how to set up. I made edits to all my favorite drinks and rearranged the selection screen to put my favorites in order from top to bottom. After saving it all I figured I was all set. Nope, all were reset back to defaults upon re-connection to the machine. Totally frustrated experience. One would think JOE would retain the edited favorites and new layout regardless of connection state. Apparently it doesn’t auto connect either which is also weird. My earphones auto connect upon powering up, why not this? I’m sitting about 15 ft away (5 meters for any of the jura people who may read this), no walls or other obstructions. Anyway, after connecting again, I rearranged my drinks and set them up as desired, again, will see if things are retained tomorrow morning.

Not Really Worth the Effort

Given the thousands of dollar we spent on our Jura, one would think JOE possessed equally sophisticated technology. Not even close. First, only one person at a time can use JOE to connect to the Jura. Second, the Order feature is useless because any settings you assign to any one product (i.e., coffee, espresso, etc.) is immediately lost once the drink is made. Third, our Jura doesn’t offer a timer/wake up feature like most of the cheapest coffee makers on the market today, so I blame Jura more than JOE developer for this ridiculous oversight. Really?!? It’s 2021 and Jura can’t add a wake up feature to either the machine or JOE ??? WTH. In summary, the only real benefit to JOE is perhaps in impressing your friends by ordering an espresso via JOE . In other words, it offers no real convenience, utilitarian prowess, or time saving features. Very disappointing. Say it ain’t so, J.O.E.? It is.

Terrible Update!

We love our Giga 6, and were very happy after we bought it, but only because we could use the this app app (the touchscreen on the Giga 6 is too sensitive and you end up making drinks you don’t want). The this app app solved that...until this last update. The only thing that shows up on the welcome screen is a Cortado, which we don’t drink. All of our saved drinks that we had customized are now all gone, and there is no way to create and save customized drinks. Every time you want something, you have to create it again and again. furthermore, the settings that you do choose on JOE (like strength and volume) don't carry over to the Giga 6–and there is no way to choose between the hoppers, so we don't know if we’re getting decaf or regular. Please bring back the old app, or update this one quickly. Our investment in the Giga 6 is now frustrating rather than pleasing.

3.1.5 ok, but could be better

I use JOE connected to a Z10 using two devices, an iPhone and iPad. The connection procedure needs improvement as it took many attempts before I successfully connected both devices to my 2.4 Wi-Fi. Both apps operate independently which means settings and saved products need to be set up for each device.
JOE can be improved if the different products in the Z10 could be synced to JOE so any product changes would be the same in JOE no matter what device is used.
I’ve only had my Z10 for a short time but JOE connects quickly and has function properly. By the way, I love my Z10 which replaced a functioning 12 year old Z7.

Update ver 1.3 removed all personalized settings

It worked great for first 9 months of use. Then an app update made it unusable. The only thing that JOE will allow is milk. How about coffee?

Thank JAMike for letting us know settings were hidden.

Customer service would be nice. E-mail response was make sure your connected. Duh!! My voice mail message from last week hasn’t been returned.

This new app also keeps disconnecting when previously it was always ready to go when machine was on. Seriously? Who thought it was time to release this.

When are you going to solve this connectivity issue. I spend more time connecting to Bluetooth than selecting coffee. If I get interrupted and take a call or open another app or respond to pop up, i have to reconnect again. It doesn’t make sense why it was changed from what worked before. It is funny how the revision description is always the same. Making it more intuitive. Well it is less than it was. Removing a star again. It was 5 stars in Jan.
I got an Apple Watch and surprised to see J.O.E as compatible. I shouldn’t have gotten my hopes up. Only connects and says no Favorites. I guess I will continue to carry my phone to the D6 and suffer through the current firmware experience.

Machine is Great, App is terrible

To whoever is answering these reviews on behalf of Jura, notice a pattern? Why don’t you do something about it instead of just making excuses. We pay thousands for these machines so have the right to be upset. Everyone loves their machine but JOE is terrible. I bought the machine (and smart connect) based on online videos I had watched from people doing reviews and JOE seemed really cool and functional. Seems like earlier versions had more options to customize drinks, which is the entire reason along with prolonging the life of my touch screen I wanted the smart connect. Now, this latest version only allows you to make drinks preloaded onto JOE , so what’s the point? Waste of money, and I feel kind of taken advantage of after having bought this due to the smart capabilities.

App can’t make a cafe latte

Major oversight. JOE is missing the most popular café drink in America which is the latte, can’t add or change any drink with JOE either. I am surprised at this oversight. Due to this error, it is hard to customize a latte without going into the machine and changing the latte settings and saving the settings every single cup. JOE is also flabby and minimally useful to add drinks or program specialty drinks without going to the machine itself.
It is a set drink menu that can be customized and ordered per drink (except cafe latte). Frustratingly, they have a huge picture for the hot water that you could make using a campfire! On the plus side, once you take the time and trouble to work with the machine itself and undergo a steep for learning curve than is necessary, the drinks themselves are fabulous. App is a gimmick mostly.

Terrible App

I purchased the Jura S8 along with the Smart Connect. I am shocked at the poor design and functionality of the J.O.E. app. Both the UI and UX are incredibly frustrating. This combined with the S8’s maddening touch screen is enough to return the entire system.

The fact that JOE does not contain the same drink options as the machine’s touch screen does not make sense. For example, JOE does not have an option for a caffe latte despite this being an option on the machine’s touch screen. Further, a ristretto espresso is an option on JOE but not on the touchscreen.

Jura’s app development team needs to go back to the drawing board and correct these glaring issues. Hard to believe that this version saw the light of day. I would suggest that the PM and development team test the next version of JOE prior to release.

A good start

This is better than I thought it would be. I wish that it allowed me to share the custom menu with other devices. I added it to my phone and my iPad and I can’t transfer my drink settings. Because we have one hopper with caffeinated beans and the other with decaf, I created 3 of each drink - full, half, and decaf. I wish those could be shared to my iPad or other phones in the house. I have to individually program each device and that’s not awesome. That also means that if I upgrade my phone, I will have to do it yet again. There needs to be a better way to share across devices for this to be really functional.

Keep disconnecting and cannot schedule a coffee in advance

Cannot program the machine the night before to turn on and make a drink automatically in the morning. What’s the point of JOE or the milk cooler if I still have to walk there and turn the machine up.
At least make the machine turn on automatically or let it stays on for longer.
The machine is disconnected from JOE way too often and takes a while to reconnect.

Needs improvement

The idea is a good one. JOE is incredibly bad. I hope the programmers read this and improve a product that should be great

1. You have to tap the screen too many times to get to order your coffee
2. JOE gets interrupted when anyone is using the machine. What for is beyond me. So for example, if someone is using the machine you have to wait until it is idle to input a batch of orders
3. The save function does not work properly. You save your drink with the modifications you want. After ordering the coffee your saved coffee disappears. Next time you have to do it again. Unbelievable.

The programmers have made the $60 chip you add to the machine totally useless. I just do not see what is the difference between JOE and just using the machine’s controls.

Frankly, if I were Jura I would hire someone else to do a new app. The current people are not up to the task.

App doesn’t connect to my Z10

I am new to wifi enabled coffee machines. Recently replaced my S8 with the brand new jura Z10 that I am very satisfied with. However, JOE doesn’t connect to my wifi. Following the instructions and contacting the costumer service didn’t resolve this issue. Essentially the Z10 established a connection with my wifi but JOE doesn’t recognize and give me an error. The customer service suspects the issue might be due to my super strong wifi connection and advised me to wait for an app update from the developer.

This should be named 2020.

JOE update took away the primary usefulness of being able to store the perfect coffee settings. There really is no point to JOE now, besides the commercial value to the company. Poor work for such an up scale line.

Update: The settings memory has been restored. Thank you.

1.3.0 is a VERY BAD update!

Where did the menu go? Somebody really screwed up this 1.3.0 update. None of the items are available to order and not obvious how to get them back. First logical try was a fail.

To be fair 1.3.0.1 fixes some of the screw up and was issued within about 2 weeks (thus 2 stars instead of one ) but it still has some glitches and so apparent improvement from version 1.2

Product setting removed

Took away the best feature(Product setting) It allowed me to customize and make my own levels of coffee including temperature control. Now, I can only switch between unholy hot and cold as hell. At the same time, it removes the Siri control on my costume blends. This means all my favorite coffees are now gone and can now only be accessed through the main menu each time. Sure, I can make new custom blends but I can’t even name them anymore to make a distinction between them. Poor update.

Instructions

App is actually awesome once I figured it out. All you need to do is “long press” what ever drink is on your “main menu”. From there it will allow you to edit the home screen as in the previous app but with more options.

By

Simply horrible

I bought one of the most expensive coffee machines on the market. The Jura Z 10. $4000. JOE is useless. The machine has to be on for JOE to connect. The machine turns off by itself. So you have to go turn it on manually and then connect JOE . Then what’s the use of JOE . You cannot schedule when you want your coffee. You can’t turn on the machine. Why do you even need JOE ? It’s totally useless. Jura I hope you improve the significantly.

Not bad but accessibility for VoiceOver users still needs work!

After my reports, the new app has introduced some fixes to make it possible for users of VoiceOver screen reader to adjust settings. However, on every setting we now hear "some text" instead of the setting name.
So, please fix this and you will get five stars from me! :)

Great....when it works

Very cool to be able to order a coffee from the office and then go across the house to pick up fresh coffee. Unfortunately, half the time JOE won’t order the coffee. I’m awaiting an update that gets rid of that bug.

By

Easy button!

I love the simple format. Easy connection although it seems only one device connects at a time. JOE allows easy product, settings and preference customization.

Nice idea that worked once

Seriously buggy. JOE worked exactly once to start a coffee.
Since then it's stuck in a white screen even after restarting many times.
The Apple Watch app never even started just once.
