5 stars until I figured out…

(Also, you’ll never get five stars from me until you can rotate to landscape. Seems designed to frustrate and infuriate your users ) Five stars automatically went down to three, and would’ve gone down to one as far as usefulness if this app didn’t have several things right. The problem is what they have wrong is so wrong that it makes all the time I spent using Niche wasted: *** it does not differentiate between in-state and out-of-state tuition*** for example, according to this app the cost I am looking at her Indiana university Bloomington is around $19,000. According to the universities on website, however I am really looking at $55,000. All the time I spent searching means nothing and ***I really can’t use it to search for colleges at all because there’s no way to sort for in-state and out-of-state tuition.*** mix all the results are so carefully looked for and sorted for meaningless. If they ever add this feature I will come back and get back to five stars. I’m really shocked to tell you the truth. So disappointing it was almost depressing to realize how much time I wasted.

My Favorite App

I have to say, I think I’m addicted to Niche/website. I use it all the time for fun, just to see the differences between cities, towns, and suburbs in my state and learn things that I would’ve never known otherwise.

To my knowledge, the ratings are EXTREMELY accurate. I’ve traveled to places near me that are rated well and am amazed at how well this app portrays the area.

As amazing as Niche /website is, I would say there are still areas where I think a feature should be standard and to my surprise it’s not, such as filtering by population, not just by city, suburb, neighborhood, or town. I would also like to see more filters in general, such as more things related to geography, i.e. a inclination selector for mountains, lakes, or beaches that would have options like “Don’t care | care | care a lot”, similar to how “Things to Do” is setup. I also think the Places to Work section needs a lot of work to be competitive with other websites and apps, as the data for my city seems to be out of date or plain wrong in some cases.

Overall, I believe this would be an already incredible app if it just had the “Best Places” ranking but it has so much more, like K-12 rankings, College & Graduate School Rankings, and (to a lesser extent) Places to Work Rankings. Keep up the good work and I hope your team is doing well during COVID!

Really just one problem

this app is an incredible resource, and I’ve used it extensively in my college search. The information it provides has truly been indispensable. I began using the website, and recently downloaded Niche , and as soon as I began using it, I found an incredibly frustrating and disappointing flaw in the apps design. Every time a user moves out of Niche , whether by checking notifications in the top of the screen, or going to the home screen, Niche logs the user out. This not only forces you to sign in again, but also makes it hard to read the great information provided on Niche , as any break you take removed you from any article or college profile you were viewing. I would really like to see this feature changed, and until it is, I’ll be sticking to the web page. Other than that, this app is an incredible resource, which I recommend to everyone interested in colleges.

Pretty good, but small majors beware

I use this app to look at colleges. I think if you’re looking for colleges offering a more popular major, it’s awesome. However, if you are looking at less popular majors, you might be better off somewhere else. For example, I was looking at colleges with school psychology, and not a lot of schools were showing up, so instead I looked at NASP, the association for school psychologists, which showed every school they approved for school psychology. However, this app is great for mechanical engineering, since it shows everything you’d want to know about the college without much bias vs. if you looked at the college’s website.

Good App, inconsistent data.

This is a great app for general information. However, the rating system confuses me. For example, William and Mary has a C rating for its campus when it’s one of the most beautiful campuses in the world, as evidenced by other notable ratings such as Arch Digest and the Princeton Review. I think you should take into account the architectural beauty for your campus ratings.

Also, your data for SAT and GPA ranges is flawed. Your GPA scale only goes up to 4.0, when many schools have an average gpa of >4.1 for accepted applicants. Plus, because your data is from users of the website, I have found that SAT ranges tend to be flawed for colleges. Perhaps get your data from official Common Data Sets instead of users of the website, that will make it more accurate.

Love it to death using it since hs

This is a must and an essential when it comes to researching neighborhoods; finding and sorting through colleges. Now even after college I find myself using it to for home search. Looking at the most affordable place to buy homes in the dmv. Better yet the interface is amazing and allows you to sort through so much, save it and categorize it depending on wether u applied; or other things. I want to say much more but then this would have to be one whole page not even exaggerating. But yeah just showing my thanks as a user of 6 plus years

Generally useful, but...

Niche has been generally helpful with my son’s preliminary college search. We appreciate having information about each college arranged in a standard format, which makes comparisons quick and easy.

However, we just discovered what I think is a significant shortcoming for those interested in STEM careers. Niche does not distinguish between Bachelor of Science degrees and Bachelor of Arts degrees when it lists the majors the school offers. We spent a great deal of time learning about a school that looked good initially, to later learn that none of their science offerings lead to a more robust Bachelor of Science degree.

I love Niche!

I love this app! I’ve been using it online for about a year now, and I was genuinely surprised when I saw that you guys made an app. I instantly downloaded it. It’s the same thing that you see online. Very easy to use, and I love the free scholarships that you guys offer. The only thing that has been bothering me about Niche however, is that it never stays logged in. Every time I come out of Niche , it instantly logs me out. I don’t know if that’s on my end or the developer’s end, but I think that should be fixed. Other than that, Niche is great, and I will definitely continue to use it!

Really provides alot of information

About to finish up my last year in school has me thinking about how I ended up states away happy at a far away college. I spent a lot of late nights on this app in 2015 and 2016 during my latter years of high school freaking out about what college I wanted to go to. Now I'm back on it heavily looking at places to live as I graduate soon. It truly helped me find the school of my and it’s crazy it’s full circle being on again helping me for life after I graduate soon. 10/10 recommend! Find your this app✌🏾

Just what I needed

I’m looking to move soon and of course have so many questions trying to figure the best location. Neighborhood? Schooling? Jobs? Etc. Niche gives you so much information and more all in one app.
My only problem is it doesn't keep you logged in. So if you want to check your email, answer a text or check maps to find some locations to add to your preference search and go back to Niche it logs you out. Please fix this. I want to give you guys 5 stars!!

I’ve never seen anything like it!!

This is app is amazing. I’ve been able to find out information about colleges that I’ve never seen on other apps before. It’s so incredibly helpful and I would most definitely recommend it. I’m starting my senior year of high school this upcoming fall, so knowing as much as I could about what college would be best for me is extremely important. Niche has showed me so many amazing options that would be beneficial for me when I graduate high school. I’m very impressed with this app; I really love Niche!

Hopes....

Niche is great for those who would like to have a view of their acceptance rate and the lifestyle of the college itself. The tool called “Will I get in?” Is a very helpful tool in which gives you an overview of your scores of either ACT/SAT, Including your GPA. This gives you a view of your acceptance rate. In my opinion I think it’s a great tool but at the same time I wouldn’t like to get my hopes up. Overall this is a great informative app of colleges you are striving to get in to.

Ok

Does not list all of San Diego's neighborhoods. The few that it does list are problematic. "North Park is a neighborhood "Greater North Park"? What?! The East Village and others aren't even listed.

There is some good info on San Diego in general, but some a few things are off. Housing and Cost of living are spot on, but Crime and Safety is a bit off. San Diego is consistently listed as one of the safest "big cities" in the country. San Diego has low violent crime.

"Generally speaking, San Diego is a fairly safe area. In fact, San Diego boasts a crime rate that is 15 percent lower than the national average. Statistics show that San Diego is safer than 34 percent of all cities in the country."- via Google

one problem!!

I love the this app website so much and I’ve been using the website for many years just to browse for potential universities but now that college is my main focus right now I downloaded Niche to make it more convenient for myself but I always run into the same problem. If I leave Niche for any reason or if I go into my notifications while I’m in Niche it will go back to the home page no matter what. It is very frustrating that this has been going on for months with no resolution. I really hope this problem gets fixed soon!

The best resource to explore colleges

I was completely lost on the college search until I found this website/app. This thing is the absolute best way to discover new colleges, and it’s helped me so much in my decision. I get to see so many ranking and information that is otherwise really hard to find. Seriously, this is the best tool to look for colleges

Almost Perfect

Due to COVID, nearly all college campuses are closed and do not offer campus tours, which makes it tough to get a feel for a school’s culture. However, reading current students’ and alums’ reviews on this app gives me a glimmer of what the school is all about. The only complaint I have is Niche runs slow when I’m not connected to wifi.

Great app but lacking basic functionality

This is a great app! The content and how it is organized is easy to navigate. However, I noticed an issue while trying to return back to a page I was at previously. I have an iPhone X and the back arrow in the bottom left doesn’t always work or has a very delayed response. I’d also like to see swipe functions added. Other than that, Niche works great.

By

Extremely slow

I love this app and it’s purpose but Niche itself is super slow. If I try to click on something in Niche it takes forever to load and then I have to exit out of Niche and then go back in to restart it. I shouldn’t have to refresh the page the entire time I’m using Niche because it gets annoying after awhile. Please fix the quality of Niche so that the duration of the page loading can be much quicker and efficient, thank you!

A life saver for first time home shopper

Currently in the process of shopping for my first home and came across Niche. To be able to find crucial data in a potential community your shopping was beyond helpful. Not 5 stars because haven’t really gone thru all features.

By

Pretty good

Overall, it’s great to have the options and opportunities associated with Niche ; however, I’m a dual enrollment student who will be graduating with my associates and while my case isn’t the most common, I feel like it should be an option when signing up. Just a thought.

Worth The Download

I’ve used this app to find colleges and high schools when I moved and elementary schools for my siblings. It’s easy to use and has everything you need shown very clearly. However I do wish students could help update basic information on schools. Like put in there SAT score for the high schools average and help update the number of students.

U.S. News and World Report but FREE!

The this app app is an intuitive and informative guide to selecting selecting schools and communities. The hard-working team at this app provides a different perspective when ranking. this app will also provide accurate statistics about colleges and communities without the paywall of U.S News and World Report. A+ app would definitely recommend.

Missing a basic feature

For Niche that is supposed to provide data on the map it is missing the most basic feature - show the data on neighborhoods around me.

It takes a lot of clicks to get to this feature, it is heavily buried. Why?? If I want to spend time putting together a complex query, I am going to go on the web and google my way through..

Imagine using Uber app without your location data

Bugs bugs bugs

This is a great app. I love to use it for looking up college information and scholarships. Recently, however, I’ve noticed there is a bug that will automatically reload me back to the home screen. It makes it impossible for me to look at information about a college for more than 30 seconds at a time.

By

Scholarship Submissions

I feel that there should be a tab that shows the scholarships that you applied for in Niche instead of sending them to your email. In application usage I feel is much easier for the user.

By

Hard to compare apples to apples

Niche makes it very hard to directly compare one school against another and sometimes won’t give you the same information category for each school making it impossible to see how things stack up against one another. Hard to make heads or tails of the data without that info.

Fabulous app! Great source for everything college! Objective, informative, super easy to navigate. Very user friendly. Recommend as the “bible” for anyone looking for school information/data. Relocating? A definite must to research school districts. Love Niche ! Thank you, this app!
