Terrible over LTE with 4 out of 5 bars

I have a business grade internet connection, the server has 6 cores and 20 gb or ram so I know that’s not the problem. Furthermore XProtect works just fine over WiFi and my other camera system (NightOwl) works just fine on my mobile over LTE. When I connect to mobile data good luck actually seeing anything for more than a few choppy seconds at a time before the image pixelates and bleeds together or freezes. This mostly happens as the camera is kicking back n forth between motion recording and not. So basically if there’s motion on the camera while you’re viewing it remotely, it’s going to stop working an freeze badly until motion recording stops. THIS ABSOLUTELY DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF VIEWING IT REMOTELY! If I wanted my cams to only be viewable when I’m home I could’ve gone a lot cheaper. Will not be upgrading my license for more cameras as anticipated during initial setup. My $800 NightOwl System is putting your software to shame running with CONSIDERABLY more power. Which I had to give it because even with 4 Xeon core processors, it was still maxing out the cpu constantly. Might want to go back to the drawing board guys, there’s a lot of issues here and none of them I’ve found a workaround for yet...

Memory leak

There is a memory leak in the current build. It can be reproduced by setting “Stay awake” from settings to on, and then leaving XProtect open permanently. I use it on a dedicated iPad Air viewing a 3x3 (9 total) camera view. The Milestone server and iPad are on the same local network. Cameras are a mix of 1080p and 4K Axis devices. Streams are configured for 30fps at 1080p in the Milestone Mobile’s “Performance” configuration. When left viewing the 9 camera display, XProtect crashes consistently after about 24-36 hours of use. Dropping FPS to 20 had no effect. XProtect still crashes after about a day. As a software engineer, it’s obvious that there is a memory leak in XProtect . It’s probably caused by the high frame rate and resolution I run, but for a commercial product, I would hope for better QA. I recently converted from this app Express and am on the latest release of this app Express+. I am under Milestone Care Plus but have been unsuccessful in escalating this bug.

Could not connect to the server after update

Using 2016 R3 version in the server. Clients complained not able to connect after app update.
Access using web browser is working, local access is also working.
Alternatively, I downloaded the this app mobile express pro version to circumvent this issue.

Desperately needs updates

I have been running the paid for Express version of Milestone for years now.

XProtect is lackluster and there have been very few real improvements after years of customer requests.

You can’t even do simple things like get a view with fewer cameras that use more screen real estate, zeroing in on a playback recording time is painful, etc.

Most recently I installed a CA signed security certificate on my Milestone box to get the annoying cert warnings to stop. My cert works fine with a web browser but only works with the mobile app intermittently. Very irritating.

Update dumped my server settings?

Had been using app for quite a while. Noticed was unable to view on either phone or iPad. Apparently app auto-updated and dumped my server/settings? For whatever reason they disappeared on two separate devices, so now unusable. Nice job updating XProtect but not saving the previous settings. Wow!

Milestone had gone downhill in the past few years. XProtect crashes with certain systems, even their own demo server. We have moved away (far away) from this app products. I hope canon can figure it out as it once was top NVR of choice. Maybe back to basics.

So buggy

How does the #1 VMS have such a bad iOS app? Seriously? It barely works. Want to look at a camera… well if not ever finally loads it’ll crash - and not only will XProtect crash but it’ll crash your mobile service as well on the server - so bad!!

Terrible app. Even worse software

I have had issues with both XProtect and the software constantly since the beginning of 2017. First the software on our system went faulty and we received zero response to our questions. After paying a third party to revert our software to a previous version, we now no longer have remote access as XProtect constantly crashes. I won’t ever recommend this service to any other businesses and in fact will discourage anyone from even considering it.

Menu bars in the way

There was a review on July 11 about this with no developer response. This is unusual because it’s kind of a problem and has been this way ever since Milestone mobile was initially released. The top and bottom nav bar essentially cuts off about a half inch of video, and that half-inch of video on the mobile screen is about a fifth of what we’re looking at. The only way to see the entire camera is to pinch zoom the image out. There’s no way to get the menu Bars to disappear or to change them to transparent, so they just sit in the way blocking a good portion of the image of the camera. Milestone do we have any feedback on this?

App crashes

After the last update I have been unable to open my cameras on my Apple phone. As soon as I click XProtect and it open, it immediately shuts down

Terrible App

We have thousands of cameras in hundreds of views organized in folders by location. Desktop client and web client all show the folders and views correctly. Mobile app doesn’t. It just lumps all of the views together without the folder names so you find them easily.

Not working properly

I have to delete the server then add it again to be able to see the cameras every time, then it works for couple hours and then says cant connect and i have to delete and re add.

Slow App

XProtect is very slow opening the camera connections on and off the local LAN. The current app crashes at least once a day.

UI update is bad

App has gone downhill with UI redesign. Zooming in on a live camera view immediately resets most times. Sad to see such poor quality control of your software changes.

Slow but great software

this app is a nice server but very specific in terms of set-up. This allows remote mobile viewing and access to the Axis door system but it’s very slow. I have the Husky system running 12 cameras w/out a dedicated mobile server on a 10 by 10 fiber.

Works well with Milestone Arcus

Works very well with Milestone Arcus software that comes with some Western Digital MyCloud NAS devices.

My only constructive feedback would be to allow users to either disable or hide the black bar at the top of the camera view (contains the close button, camera name and recording status), when in landscape. It often blocks the camera info and the top 10% of the image.

Other than that, very good product!

New update crashes

Finally works again. Note to everyone. Not only do you have to update XProtect . The mobile server on the computer also needs updated software. Not giving 5 stars because the tech support process was horrible. No communications with customers or the dealers who handle the onsite tech support. Nobody knew anything on how to fix these issues.

XProtect no longer allows me to jump from one motion trigger to the next. This is a must have for a mobile security app. Please fix ASAP.

Old. I love XProtect but please make the menu bars go away. The top and bottom of my video are hidden behind the too and bottom menu bars!!!

Update fixed crashing at startup.

XProtect is simple. Obviously you have to install the desktop software but it works. Easy enough to port forward from an external IP. Multiple cameras supported. Easy to watch recordings at variable speeds. Thankful for a free app, and free desktop software that works well. Thank you milestone developers.

Works great if you have it setup correctly

This is very specific software. If you don’t have a Milestone server properly setup with access to and from the internet then XProtect is not for you.
If you DO have the above mentioned server this works great and is the only way to go in my mind.
Truth be told, the Milestone product line was not my first choice. I wanted “open source” and Linux based.
Bah, that equated to “better be a Linux expert” and know the intricate in’s and out’s of all the subject matter. Through a lot of trial and error my choices limited themselves down to this very fine product. Milestone got me up and running with 8 devices for free in just a day or two. Versus the couple of weeks I’d already spent on the aforementioned Linux Open source options.
