About RAVENMARK

Explore a myriad of tactics at your fingertips with intuitive touch controls and unique management systems, like the Formation system: Group up to three units of a kind into a single formation, which enables special abilities and buffs to crush enemies quicker.

In the world of Eclisse, the ruling Empire of Estellion is besieged by a scourge of embittered zealots from the swamp nation of Kaysan, erased from history by the Empire’s hubris.

As the Empire struggles against nigh-endless invaders and ruthless political machinations, its heroes must fight to restore the banners of the raven… Or fall to the Scourge of Estellion.

Battles employ a dynamic “we-go” system where the actions of allies and enemies unfold in a simultaneous battle phase.

Ravenmark: Scourge of Estellion is a turn-based wargame, where strategic troop placement is essential to succeess.

The Standing Order system offers A.I. assisted commands that address the headaches of micro-managing the entire army every round.

Venture into the Codex, an in-game encyclopedia which documents the richly storied history and cultures of Eclisse.

Commanders must to think ahead, anticipating all movements of their enemies instead of just reacting to them.

A rousing cinematic soundtrack underscores the tension and drama that unfolds in the battlefields of RAVENMARK.

Upheaval and chaos approaches the ancient Empire of the Raven.

"...We’re especially big fans of games like Nintendo’s Advance Wars.

An excellent tactical game with a good storyline

I’ve enjoyed playing this app since it came out. I like the tactical gameplay and the storyline, as well as some of the background lore (I wish there was more of that). The storyline and the characters draw you in, while the battles challenge you, since you have certain limitations the computer doesn’t.

I’ve played the now-defunct this app: Mercenaries as well but quickly gave up due to the focus on multiplayer at the expense of the storyline.

I strongly recommend this app: SoE to anyone who enjoys a good tactical game

LOVED THE STORY!

I thought this game was going to be boring but when I got into it I couldn't get out of it every mission brought me deeper into the plot and I loved it the turn based strategy involved was great I loved playing this game

Boring overly complex. Way too expensive

After reading all the other reviews I thought this would be the perfect game. I love turn-based strategy games. This disappointed me on every level. By the time I got to about the fourth mission I started questioning why are these overly complex controls in place for simple troop placement. This is rock paper scissors at its worst. How they can charge $10 for this and get away with it is a mystery to me.

Earthbound

While bereft of resource management, "this app" is a sterling addition to the tactics genre. Artistic visuals, a rousing score, and a surprisingly vibrant lore make "Scourge of Estellion" an absolute "must-purchase" for any tactics fan on iOS. Buy this game NOW!

Superior RPG iOS title

Absolutely phenomenal with a compelling story. The writing doesn't feel dumbed down or inane like many other RPG titles out in RAVENMARK Store right now.

Doesn't work on newer devices/softwares

I tried to play this on an iPad Mini 5 running iOS 15. The game is completely broken, with black squares appearing in a checkerboard pattern all over my screen.

Excellent Wargame

As someone who has played both wargames and RPGs since the 1970s, I can say this is the best tactical wargame I've seen yet on the iOS platform. Excellent use of formations and special abilities. The tactics such as flanking an enemy line to gain advantage and charges by cavalry are very well implemented. Good variety of scenarios as well. There are a few things that could be improved on: First, it is currently too easy for units already engaged in combat to move and and attack again. This results in units already fighting each other unrealistically moving and attacking each other's flanks. A "zone of control" rule like many wargames have or an "attack of opportunity" rule like many RPGs use would solve this problem. Second, the little circular "flags" that identify unit type get in the way of seeing the units when many units are packed close together. This makes it difficult to maneuver when your units are engaged in close combat. It would be nice to be able to toggle off all the flags except for the active unit. All in all an excellent game that is well worth the cost.

Great combat system

I've had this game on my iPad for a while now and never really gave it a chance because it looked like some corny flash game. I finally gave the game a decent shot and I'm pleased with the overall quality of this game.

The combat system is better than any other TBS game I've played, on any system. The strategies are deep and their are an infinite number of ways you can achieve success using different strategies. The story is well above average too and could be easily placed amongst the best out there on the iPad.

I would recommend this game to anyone who is already familiar with TBS games because this has become one of the elite in the genre and you would do yourself a disservice passing on this one. Beginners may want to get their feet wet elsewhere because the difficulty of this game can be a bit unforgiving. That said, I never felt frustration when I lost a battle because I never got the feeling that I was being 'cheated' like in many other games.

Great game, worth the $3.

Having just bought the game a couple hours ago, this game has already required me to think of different strategies in order to complete the challenges that are put out. Knowing exactly how to tell a unit to a attack a certain square by positioning, or using the pursue command, for example, at the right time can change the course of the battle. And formations are a new mechanic to me, one that I'm loving in this game, as they are EXTREMELY well integrated. The story is well-written so far, the Codex is extremely useful, and very interesting to dig into. And the updates to the campaign will keep me playing for quite a while. The controls are great, and extremely responsive. The visuals are high quality, and so is the music. The production value put into this game makes it a steal for the $3.
The only thing I want to see now is some kind of multiplayer mode. The mechanics here are great for an online challenge, and this could very well turn into a lasting classic on iOS. So, here's hoping!

Truly Exceptional

This is the best iOS game I have played. It's turn based strategy is well implemented, with a system that realistically rewards and encourages the use formations. The story and characters are both interesting and well drawn (both in terms of characterization and art style), though many of the standard tropes are there and will be familiar to fans of military fiction or gamers. This is not a criticism, and it actually serves the story well. I caught the shout out to the Sharpe series, ("You've done me a good turn, so now i will do you a bad one" ) and it made me smile.

The production values and art style are very good and generally well suited to a mobile device, and the content is, in my opinion, worth more than the price. Further, I would gladly pay for additional content, specifically more campaigns or a skirmish mode. I eagerly await a squeal, assuming the developers are willing.

Tl:DR? A great game well worth the money. Deserves to be at the top of the best sellers page.

Great game marred by a few frustrating difficulties

This is the best strategy game I have played on the iPad. The combat system is well designed, providing a visceral experience that gives you a lot control without sacrificing the rapid pace.

However, there are a couple of frustrating difficulties that arise from the combat system. For instance, in the game, you have to decide what your units are going to do in advance, and then after you have given your orders both sides engage in combat simultaneously. This means your units act in a pre determined order you can see while you give commands, and you have to take this order into account when making your moves. When you move units, you have to know whether units that block their path will move out of the way before or after them, and the game lets you move over occupied spaces to account for this. However, when you want to cast spells on units you know are moving in range, or you want to rotate your units, the game won't let you.

If you like fire emblem or advance war...

If you are looking for advance wars or fire emblem you won't find them on the iPhone (though we can still hope). What you will find instead is this app.
this app can hold its own among the big boys its graphics and gameplay are well polished and its story is just as good or better than the ones you would expect from fire emblem.
What sets this app apart is the strategy involved with troop formations. Troops gain extra powers when grouped with up to two other of their kind and can be given orders as a group which is helpful as the game only allows so many orders per turn. The flip side is that grouped units lose some maneuverability and can't counter attacks from the back or sides (they can when ungrouped). This adds to the strategy elements already in place and makes troops more versatile.

It is certainly worth downloading the episodic free version to give this game a try. I think you'll agree the full version is a bargin!

A shining beacon of hope for iOS gaming

In a world where almost everyone on RAVENMARK Store only cares about making a quick buck, with freemium IAP traps to lure in the gullible masses, Witching Hour has taken the high road. They have created a pure strategy game of such depth and detail that it's almost criminal that they charge so little for it. Everything about this app is dripping with polish - the art, the interface, the sublime music. The care and the love that the developers had in crafting this gem shines from every facet of the game. It speaks volumes that there are people buying the tip IAPs, that there are those who are giving the developers money simply because they think the studio deserves it. Shame on the cheapskates begrudging them the tiny sum they charge for additional full-fledged campaigns. This game is worth every penny you paid for it, and more.

Interesting take on turn based tactics game

Good:
- Crisp graphics harkens back to the days final fantasy tactics and similar games. Speaking which, the dry dialog reminds me of the dry dialog of FF Tactics too.
- Hasn't crashed on me in about 10hrs of play. Nothing irritates me more than a buggy game. Which iOS seems to have in spades.
- A whole codex of lore that's actually not a terrible read.
- rock-paper-scissor+1 is pretty interesting.

Bad:
- It's not always clear what kind of damage will be done in cases where a unit type is equal to another unit type. This causes you to over or under commit to kill a single enemy unit. I've had cases where a pikemen dealt more damage to archers than a knight. Recommend some sort of concrete damage/defense stats.
- Commander stats seem to be tweaked differently than other units (which makes sense seeing as commanders should be stronger). The issue is that again, it's hard to know approximate how much a damage a unit will inflict on another unit.
- Can't skip the dialog before a mission with one click if you restart a mission. You have to watch all the animations and spam the skip button constantly.
- Infuriating when a unit has the option to attack two enemies but doesn't read my mind as to which one makes more sense to attack. (stupid archers)

Overall:
- Entertaining and worth the purchase.

Similar to:
- Final Fantasy Tactics - look/feel/lore and gameplay
- Hunters 2 - also a turn based tactical game
